2 Greetings Carefree Owners and Friends, Half way through June already and I m hoping for sunnier, warmer days ahead as June weather can be so unpredictable. This past weekend, I know I wasn t the only one who changed outfits a few times to accommodate the changing weather. Nonetheless we had a great weekend and are looking forward to the rest of the season. Some of you have been inquiring, and yes, I am wearing two hats this year; one as your treasurer and I am also remaining as the social director. If you did not attend the AGM, as your Treasurer, I can reiterate we had a great 2017, that ended with a surplus that went directly into the reserve fund. We enter 2018 with a healthy reserve fund balance and continue with our plans to pay for the new land and pave the road around the pond area. I am excited to take on this role with the support of the rest of the Carefree financial team and thank Don and his team for their everyday eye on the ball commitment, ensuring we are allocating our resources in the most cost-effective manner. My role as the social director will be to organize all social activities at Carefree, to ensure each event has a key coordinator and help allocate volunteers and resources where and when needed. As I mentioned at the AGM, if you can volunteer in any capacity or have any feedback or requests for events please social@carefreeresort.com. Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, we have great social activities planned for the 2018 season. Starting with Friday Bingos, I m challenging you all to beat my lucky friend Bonnie whose family won FIVE times last week, and even though I sat right beside her, no such luck came my way. This Saturday at 1pm, come join Iris in the clubhouse for Zumba. Tickets for the annual Wine/Food Pairing that evening are already sold out. Next Saturday, the 23 rd we are trying something different in the Clubhouse, while the adult painting event is in progress, the bar will be open, come listen to some music and socialize with your friends/neighbors. In the months of July and August, when the kids are out of school, is when the social season really ramps up for kids activities. I wanted to inform those who are unaware, that the bottles left at the entrance to garbage row, are used for the Carefree Kids Fund. It saddened me to learn that last weekend, our security camera showed an individual taking all the bottles. Please help share this message. We thank all lot owners who continue to donate this way to the kids fund. Back by popular demand, we will be having a double header performance of Yuk Yuks (adult comedy) on Sunday August 5 th. With two shows available, one week prior to the event, we will offer 4 pre-sale tickets to all 2018 key event coordinators and to all board volunteers as a special thank you for their contribution to Carefree. These folks can contact social@carefreeresort.com directly to pre-purchase their tickets. Then, on Saturday June 30 th, tickets will go on sale $10 each (maximum 4 tickets per person) when the office opens at 9am. With two identical performances, one earlier one later, we should be able to accommodate everyone s interested in attending. Stay tuned into the weekly newsletter for all updates throughout the summer. We have decided to change the format of the Kids Baseball Tournament a bit this year in an effort to make it more competitive for our 12 to 17 year old Carefree residents. Please don t be alarmed as we will still have some fun baseball action for our little ones as well. We plan on having a game on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 10:00am for our 5 to 11 year olds. They will be placed on teams and get to bat, run and catch the ball. We will have some of our year old residents come and help out the little ones. It should be a great time!!! On Saturday afternoon, we will start the first Carefree Teen Baseball Tournament, we are hoping to get enough players for at least three teams, and the kids would play at least two round robin games on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. The Championship game would take place on Sunday afternoon. Of course, this is all tentative based on participation numbers. If you have a teen or know a teen that would be interested in playing in the tournament, please let me know at your earliest convenience. Once we see the numbers, we can go forward with the planning of how many players on each team etc. Please contact me at sandy@carefreeresort.com to sign up your child and/or teen. 7 Gleniffer Lake Boating Society Web Site: ONE MORE WEEK AND THE BOATING SEASON WILL BEGIN MARINA INSTALLATION Saturday, June 23th The following is very important information regarding the installation. Promptly at 9:00 am, there will be a safety meeting prior to the start of install activities, and anyone not in attendance for the meeting will not be able to assist with install. ONLY THOSE WORKING AT THE INSTALL will be allowed on site. There is machinery at work and it makes it difficult for the operators if spectators are in the vicinity. No persons under the age of 18 will be allowed on site. If you wish to receive your $50.00 credit toward your 2019 annual fees, don t forget to sign in as well as sign out at the end of the install and indicate the job(s) you completed. The install will be followed by a BBQ lunch for our hard working volunteers. Make sure you have your 2 new stickers on your watercraft trailer before trying to access the marina. Marina Etiquette For safety reasons, fishing from the docks is prohibited. This is to protect both you and watercraft in the slips. Members assigned a slip may park one boat not exceeding 22 feet in length or one personal watercraft in their assigned slip. Please remember that this is a private marina and is owned and operated by the members for the members ONLY. You MUST be a member to use the marina. Watercraft owned by visiting friends relatives and acquaintances of members CANNOT use the marina either to launch or to tie up their watercraft in a slip. No overnight parking of vehicles is allowed at the marina. The parking is for day use only and is for the members that are launching boats at the marina. Overflow guest parking is not allowed. While at Carefree Resort it is understood that if you have a dog and that dog poops, you will pick it up. This also applies to all who go down to the marina. Nothing is more disgusting than stepping in a pile of poop. It shouldn t have to be a written law and it shouldn t be necessary to put up signs. It is just common sense and being a good neighbor. As well, please dispose of your bag of poop in the garbage cans NOT the recycle cans. It is even more disgusting for the people to have to sort through the recycle cans if they have to pick out the poop and other garbage that seem to make their way inside. 9 GOLF CART INSURANCE As you know, we require proof of insurance for all golf carts as per policy, and have been enforcing this for a few years. Please bring in your current proof of liability insurance to the Office in order to receive your required 18 sticker. We will be looking for your name, expiry date and specification that the golf cart is in fact covered. If the insurance you submitted last year is still viable, come into the office and we will give you your sticker. Golf carts found driving around the resort without a 18 sticker will be escorted back to their respective lots, and should remain parked until the sticker has been issued. If a golf cart is caught without the appropriate sticker more than once, a fine of $25.00 will be issued to the lot owner. Repeat offenders can expect increasing penalties including having their golf cart removed from the resort. We are confident that this procedure will ensure that our Carefree community is a safer place for all residents. For more information regarding golf carts, please see current policy statements. FACEBOOK Group There is an Owner administered Closed Group called Carefree Resort Families that lot owners can join and stay in touch with posts from other lot owners regarding events, activities, updates, news and anything resort related. See the groups policies as noncompliance will result in immediate removal.
