I hope you had a most enjoyable spring break. Fisher Middle School has placed a strong focus on supporting the developmental asset model as an integral part of our strategic plan. We are also very cognizant of the fact that our success in fostering student attainment of the assets requires a solid partnership with parents. Having middle school parent volunteers well versed in the tenets of the developmental asset model has proven to be a true value-added. With that in mind, I would like to encourage you to consider attending an upcoming volunteer training being sponsored by Project Cornerstone, which many parents have endorsed as being both meaningful and helpful in better understanding the teen years. You can find the registration information below. Become a Project Cornerstone middle school volunteer! Middle school youth need the support and encouragement of caring adults. Our role as parent volunteers changes in middle school, but students tell us, We still need YOU! Please be aware that for all school events before, during, or after school, students with severe food allergies (including nuts, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, etc.) will be in attendance. Please consider providing alternative snacking options. Attendance Line or rjfattendance@lgusd.org Call if your student is absent from school, leaving early or arriving late. Fisher Flyer Submissions Please your school related article, event or volunteer requests to newsletter@fisherhsc.com by Mondays at noon. Middle school students talk about the impact of Project Cornerstone volunteers: I miss the ABC Readers from my elementary school. If I could tell them one thing, it would be WE STILL NEED YOU! Even though I changed schools, I still like having adults around in middle school. I like lunchtime, now that parent volunteers come to school! Project Cornerstone invites all new and returning adult volunteers to join the fun as we learn together about how to develop the skills adult volunteers need to connect with middle school youth. Join us! Project Cornerstone s Assets 101 for Middle School Volunteers Monday, May 7, 9:30-11:30 am at the Project Cornerstone offices, 80 Saratoga Avenue, Santa Clara Register here: middle. Sincerely, Lisa Fraser, Principal

3 Fisher Sports Corner Page 3 Girls Volleyball JV Girls - April 3 The Fisher Gym was buzzing with the 8 teams playing to survive the first round of JV Girls Volleyball. The B Team started the late afternoon with the Mighty Mavericks from Monroe. The Trojans led a fiery charge, winning the first set handedly with great play by Ashley Gold and serves by Katie Steiner, but the Mavericks would not quit, pushing the second set to a marathon of extra points and edging the Trojans to win the second. In the third, our girls would not be denied. With the help of key hits by Avery Closser, Ally Sheriff, and Kate Nguyen, the B Team was able to push back the Mavericks to win the final set and play another day. The A Team also faced the Mavericks, but it was Monroe that jumped out into an early lead and never looked back, winning the first set. The Trojans were not going to be denied, and with determined play by Ilona Estrin, Hana Wright, and Sasha Bins, the team won the second set. It was third set where the Trojans broke away from the pack with key hits by Karissa Elliott and Ellie White. Great job Trojans. JV Girls - April 4 With the cloud cover of potential April rains, the JV Girls Volleyball Team faced Price in the Semi Finals at Price Middle School. The B Team started the night battling a well prepared Price team. Though the Fisher team made some amazing plays, they were unable to defeat the Panthers, dropping both sets. Sensational play by Jerzy Adams, Alli Schwartz, Belle Bramer, and Ella Nguyen. The A Team finished the night with amazing number of hard fought rallies, matching the Panthers intensity. The Fisher team fell a bit short in the first and second, losing two sets to none. Exceptional play by Allison Black, Sarah Drabkin, Valerie Gonzalez, and Teagan Fogerty. We would like thank the parents and students who came out to support us. We could not have done it without you. And a special thank you to Coach Marden and Warren for their help. And our deep gratitude to Mr. Mercer, without whom none of this was possible. See you guys next season. Boys Soccer Note from Coach Shaun Davies Here are just some of the areas for the successful first season with the Fisher Middle School Soccer team. Each of the students and athletes displayed a tremendous attitude. There were a lot of smiles, positive interactions (between coach, players and parents), competitive spirits and attitudes to develop. The Fisher team played in the formation of the which was accompanied by the number system. This is a system that is used throughout the world as it is both a great defensive yet attacking shape to have. The number system is a great tool to use as it gives the players freedom to perform without the label of being simply a defender or an attacker. An example of this is a central midfielder playing as a number 10. The #10 would become compact to defend when our team does not have possession but would move into an advanced attacking position when our team has the ball. Some of the players had never played this formation and did not know the number system but they took the time to learn, develop and execute this in training's and games. It was so impressive and you could see the player s confidence levels grow the more they learned. There was a huge amount of respect. Upon arrival, the players would shake hands with the coach, would immediately start passing the ball around or taking part in the arrival exercises. The players all talked with each other in a very positive, respectful and pleasant tone. After the training or game, the players would each shake the coaches hand, say thank you, clear up the field and then leave to go home or to their next location. I was so pleased, proud and happy to have been a part of this experience. Well done, boys!

4 Page 4 Recap Spirit Week and Rally The final rally of the year opened with a great performance by the dance team. Extra music and enthusiasm was provided by the Pep Rally Band in the bleachers. And two survivor themed relays were run with students and then teachers racing to be the first team to finish the relays. After all the dress up days and the relays, Gold pulled ahead in the color competition! Purple is very close though and green isn t too far behind. So, be sure to participate and scan to help your color team win! Spring into Green Safe Routes to School will be staffing a booth at the Los Gatos Spring into Green festival on April 22 at Town Plaza Park.
