Our main focus for our dancers is for them to feel good about themselves and their achievements. Our programs are designed to develop the whole child, not only by teaching them to dance but by building on their self-confidence with a positive mind and body image. Although classes are structured, they are conducted in a fun and relaxed atmosphere which allows children at all levels to enjoy dance and performing arts. Monday 22 nd January, 2018 (Rising Stars & Shooting Stars) Tuesday 23 rd January, 2018 (Academy Junior & Senior) MID YEAR SHOWCASE We love seeing our students grow and improve and we are sure that you as parents do too. For this reason, we run a Mid- Year Showcase in Week 9 of Term 2 and End of Year Concert at the end of Term 4. Mid-Year Showcase Saturday 2 ND June, 2018 (Jigsaw Juniors, Rising Stars & Shooting Stars) Sunday 3 RD June, 2018 (Academy Dancers) Our dancers learn a routine from the beginning of the year and perform for parents and friends. It also gives the parents an opportunity to see how their children are progressing after their first 4 months of dancing and gives the dancers their first opportunity for the year to get up on stage to perform. (Our Mid- Year Showcase requires our dancers to wear studio uniform only. No costumes are required until our end of year concert) END OF YEAR CONCERT End of Year Concert - Saturday 17 th November, 2018 (Jigsaw Juniors, Rising Stars & Shooting) End Of Year Concert - Sunday 18 th November, 2018 (Academy Dancers) Our most anticipated event of the year our dancers learn a great new routine in term 3 & 4 and wear amazing costumes it is what our dancers work towards all year! At the end of each year we produce a concert; it's a big, beautiful, warm and amazing experience for the children performing! There are additional costs associated with the concert. These include a costume (which is paid by term instalments each term), stockings, correct dance shoes and other options by choice. Please carefully read below for approx. costs: CONCERT COSTS: The range of prices to be expected around concert time is as follows: Costume $65-$85 per costume, Tickets $27.50 per adult $22.50 per concession $14.50 per child (Dancers do not need to buy a ticket), Photos (optional) $45 for 5 photos on USB, Tights $10 - $12. BIRTHDAY PARTIES Jigsaw Parties are here! You have the choice of three amazing kids party packages to select from. Choose from the Ballerina, Disco/Hip Hop or Cheerleader Themed Parties. These packages take the hassle out of kids birthday parties and allow parents to simply enjoy the experience with their child. ASSISTANT TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM At Jigsaw Dance, we offer a leadership program to students who have an interest in teaching and leading as well as a willingness to share their passion with others. During the year, they will have the opportunity to learn techniques and skills that will positively impact their self confidence, self awareness, speaking and communicating in front of people, leadership skills, learning and understanding the importance of planning, learning to recognise and manage different personalities. 5 DANCE EDUCATION COSTS, UNIFORM & PAYMENT DETAILS It is preferred that all students wear the studio uniform. The students tend to feel more comfortable when they look the same as their class mates. We feel it gives a sense of belonging and team atmosphere. All pieces of uniform and dance shoes are available through the studio and the cost of the uniform is kept to a minimum so it s affordable for everyone. Appearance must be clean, neat and tidy. All long hair must be tied back neatly It is important that the correct shoes are purchased for each style. Dance shoes are to be worn during classes. For your first couple of weeks, any singlet/top and shorts/tights are fine to get started if you are not sure about your child s confidence to participate in the class. Sneakers are fine to wear until you are sure that your child will be continuing the class. 6 PAYMENT OPTIONS At the beginning of each term you will be ed an invoice with your dancer s term costs. Please ensure that these are promptly paid. 1. PAYMENTS ARE TO BE PAID BY THE TERM: These must be paid by week 2 of the term. If you pay by the term your payment options are: direct debit, cash, cheque or credit card. Classes must be paid for whether your child attends their lesson or not. 3 rd (or least paying student from that family) and subsequent children dance for free. If your child misses a class they are more than welcome to attend a similar class (max 2 within the same term) to make up for their missed lesson. If you go on holidays, classes still must be paid for in full to ensure your child s place in the class is held. FAMILY FRIENDLY FEE CAPPING With all the exciting classes on offer at Jigsaw Dance, we offer a fee capping system to make it more affordable for our families. For all our Jigsaw Juniors, Rising Stars & Shooting Stars (Private Lessons not included) If the total of your classes exceeds $45 your fees will be capped at $45/week regardless of how many classes you wish to enroll in (per student) For all our Academy Dancers (Private Lessons not included) If the total of your classes exceeds $60 your fees will be capped at $60/week regardless of how many classes you wish to enroll in (per student) JIGSAW DANCE ANNUAL REGISTRATION FEE As class sizes are restricted, this payment will secure your child s/children s place in their classes. This fee is also used to cover the insurance costs, copyright fees and administration. This fee is non-refundable. $35 per student $75 for 3 or more Children IF YOU PAY YOUR REGISTRATION BEFORE DECEMBER 15 th 2017, you will receive a discount and ONLY PAY $30 PER STUDENT OR FOR $70 FOR 3 OR MORE CHILDREN COSTUME DEPOSIT FUND At Jigsaw Dance we run a costume deposit fund. This is to help ease the financial burden at the end of the year. We try to keep costume costs to a minimum and know that our parents appreciate that. This cost includes: measuring your child, materials, dress making, shipping, accessories, hair accessories, props and costume bag. (AND.. you get to keep your costume!) Jigsaw Jr classes: will consist of one installment of $20 in Term 1, then three installments of $15 for the remaining terms, per child, per class/style (4 terms - total $65/costume) All other classes: will consist of one installment of $25 in Term 1, then three installments of $20 for the remaining terms, per child, per class/style (4 terms - total $85/costume) If you leave or decide not to perform in the concert (before the costumes are ordered), the deposited amount can be refunded. 6

7 GENERAL INFORMATION MEDAL TESTING EXAMS We offer Medal Testing for tap and ballet. This is not compulsory, it offers our dedicated students something to strive towards and be acknowledged for their achievements. During Term 3, students will present their work to an industry professional and if satisfactory in their grade, will receive a medal and certificate of achievement. If you are unsure whether or not your dancer will be ready to sit the Medal Test, you can discuss it with me and we can make the decision together. PERFORMANCE TROUPES After a fantastic and positive finish to the year, we have completely re-structured the running of our Performance Troupes.. We have created Performance Troupes that correspond with each different grouping of classes and their matching concerts (eg. Rising Stars). At Jigsaw we strive to be as inclusive as possible, therefore this opportunity is open to everyone. I have the tentative dates booked in for 2018 (please see the Calendar) and as these dates are fast approaching we request that you enroll as soon as you know you would like to participate. To ensure that we provide the best representation of Jigsaw Dance at these performances we do require weekly commitment. These classes are on a Thursday afternoon. For those wanting to know more, please send us an at info@jigsawdance.com.au PRIVATE LESSONS: For anyone who wishes to take on private lesson in 2018, please note that you will be unable to perform in our concerts (as they are just simply too big!). Private lessons dances can choose other performance opportunities, if they wish, or use these lessons to perfect their skills. More information can be obtained by ing info@jigsawdance.com.au CLASS ATTENDANCE If you miss three classes in a row without contacting us, we will assume you have discontinued. If you need to miss three classes due to things like a holiday or ill health, please let us know and we will be happy to hold your place in the class. You can , call or SMS if your child is unable to attend their class. PHOTOGRAPHY & PROMOTIONS Through-out the year, your child may be photographed or filmed for promotional or advertising purposes. This may include, but not limited, to photos on our social media pages, local media articles or published on our websites. If you do not want your child s photograph to be used, please advise staff in writing when you enroll. IMPORTANT SAFETY RULES Once you have enrolled, all students and their families are expected to adhere to a few simple rules for the safety and well-being of everyone involved in the studio. 1. No food containing nuts or nut product can be brought into the studio by a parent, student or sibling. 2. Children must not enter the dance studio area unless accompanied by a teacher 3. Children must not leave the building unless accompanied by a parent or guardian 4. Before and after class, students are expected to be supervised by their parents. Teacher supervision extends only to students in class. CAR PARK SAFETY & PARKING We have children of all ages attending our studio. Please enter and exit our car parks with extreme caution. Please make yourself aware of our designated parking spots (please don t park in our neighbour s designated spots.it doesn t make them happy at all!) At Jigsaw HQ, there is plenty of parking around the back of the studio. Please use it if our front spots are taken. SECOND HAND SHOES & PRE-LOVED UNIFORM FACEBOOK PAGE In order to make things easier, I have started a Facebook Page with second hand shoes and uniform. You can list your pre-loved shoes and uniform on the page with your contact details, so others can contact you directly and organise to purchase. 8 CLASSES FOR 2018 Classes in 2017 thrived and as such I have completely restructured all the classes so that they are now based on which year they are in at school. This will allow more space for new enrolments and to keep class sizes capped. This restructuring mainly concerns the Academy Junior & Seniors students. Students are not placed in classes based primarily on their age, but experience, ability and friends are important factors that can determine what class is best suited for them. The class descriptions are listed below. All classes have been specifically programmed to allow our dancers to continually improve on technique, co-ordination and choreography while always ensuring creativity and fun! All teachers have been trained with this syllabus to ensure all our dancers are developing and learning at a consistent pace. JIGSAW JUNIORS DANCE ADVENTURE Each week our classes are a journey of imagination, creation and education. Along the way, our dancers develop new skills, confidence and friendships through the passionate guidance of our teachers. We encourage creative thinking and exploration while our dancers get to feel a sense of pride, excitement & fun and most importantly feel like the most important dancer in the room. JIGSAW JNR RAINBOW CONNECTION (My Love and Me) This is a beautiful opportunity for you and your little one to start the music and movement appreciation process. Together you and your little one will play with musical instruments, use fun props, run obstacle courses on the soft play equipment while singing and dancing together. JIGSAW JNR NEXT GENERATION COMBO CLASS (45mins) This combo class has been created to allow dancers to experience different genres of dance in a 45min lesson. This will give them a taste of a variety of styles and see which ones they love and may wish to pursue in the future. This programming includes: o JAZZ, HIP HOP, MINI ACRO, TAP (without tap shoes) & BABY YOGA These classes are fun and energy filled including basic movement, co-ordination, singing and drama to familiar music. It gives children a chance to develop their ear for music and feet for dancing, starting at the age most crucial. JIGSAW JNR BALLET Our ballet classes have the same fun and energy of our Jazz classes, but also incorporates the beginnings of ballet techniques allowing a gentle introduction to the world of tippy toes and twirls. Dancers are taught correct technical skills and French ballet names for steps and movements so we have classes of 2-5yr olds speaking French each week! 8

9 MID YEAR SHOWCASE & END OF YEAR CONCERT All of our Jigsaw Juniors (apart from our Rainbow Connection Classes) are invited to participate in our Mid-Year Showcase and End of Year Concert. This is SO much more than just doing a dance on the stage. These opportunities are a positive and growing experience for your dancer (and you). Each lesson the teachers work in developing the whole child. It actually doesn t matter what they do, we just want them to have the greatest time & feel really excited, confident and proud of themselves. These displays also allow the children to show their family and friends what they have been working on during their lessons each week. Teachers talk and encourage our dancers from week 1 about how exciting and fun it is to dance on the stage, so we d like for you at home to use the same positive language with your dancers. Costumes and Music: are all age appropriate and your dancer is not expected to wear make-up. Mid-Year Showcase: Saturday 2 nd June, 2018 approx. 11am Pacific Hills High School - No costumes are required. Dancers are to wear class uniform. - Tickets prices: approx. $22 adult, $15 concession, $10 children, Free 3yrs and under End of Year Concert: Saturday 17 th November, 2018 approx. 11am Pacific Hills High School - Sparkly, glittery gorgeous costumes are worn for this concert. The total cost is $65.00 (and you get to keep it after the concert). First time parents of the younger groups may watch the beginning of the first class to help settle dancers in. After this we find that the children respond much better without parents and siblings in the studio. However, after many years of experience, special tactics are used for those who have trouble separating from their parents, so don t worry if it takes your dancer a couple of weeks to feel comfortable and participate. At Jigsaw HQ, we have viewing windows where parents can watch the classes from the waiting area. In the final week of Term 1 and 3, we have parent participation week. This is where you can come and join in with your dancers as they teach you the moves they have learnt through-out the term. Is it compulsory to participate in the mid-year & end of year concert? Our concerts are not compulsory but highly recommended. It s a fun and entertaining experience for everyone involved and a great way for your dancer to show off all their hard work they have done throughout the year. Our concerts are designed to be pressure free and as relaxed as possible for everyone involved. Our mid-year concert is usually held the weekend before the June/July School Holiday and our end of year concert is usually the third weekend in November, so the dancing year finishes before the massive rush and commitments of Christmas start. Are class sizes capped? Yes. The number depends on the age and style of the class. If classes are full, then you will be placed on a waiting list and contacted as soon as a position becomes available. Can I enroll after the dancing year has started? Yes - we accept new students throughout the year. Just us at: info@jigsawdance.com.au for an information sheet and timetable. Do I need to buy a dance uniform or shoes before I enroll? No - dancers trying classes for the first time are encouraged to come in comfy clothes and sneakers. Uniform can be purchased anytime at Jigsaw HQ Castle Hill or on our Registration and Discount day in January. 10

11 RISING STARS & SHOOTING STARS Jazz & Tap: These classes give our dancers a good introduction to the basic fundamentals of Jazz and Tap while using fun and age appropriate music and techniques. JFH (Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop): These classes give the dancers a good introduction to the basic fundamentals of Jazz, Funk and Hip Hop while using fun and age appropriate music and techniques. Ballet: It is the essential tool for the basics of dance. Ballet promotes body placement, posture awareness and emotion while preparing the dancer for all styles of dance. Although children do not sit for exams, classes are directed by a set syllabus. Hip Hop: Run by our hip, professional and experienced teachers, these classes offer a different style of dance focusing on accented movements, isolations and urban dance style. All movements and music are age appropriate and suitable to our different age groups. B-Boys Hip Hop: Run by our Super Cool male hip hop teacher, these classes have been specifically designed for BOYS ONLY. The HIP HOP classes include the latest Hip Hop moves as well as breaking, popping and locking and a large variety of different styles and themes of dance in the dance world for boys for example: Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars just to name a few!! Acro for Dance: This program has been developed specifically to enhance strength, flexibility and co-ordination in preparation for acrobatic tricks and skills within dance. Cheer & Tumbling for Dance: Using skills from both cheer and tumbling, students are taught correct technique, lifts and pompom work while developing strength, flexibility and co-ordination in preparation for tumbling tricks within dance. Performance Troupes: These classes for those dancers wanting to commit and take their dancing to the next level. We will perform in several events through-out the year. Please register your interest if you think this is something you would like to participate in. Medal Testing: This year we will be offer Medal Testing in ballet and tap. During term 3, students will present their work to an industry professional and if satisfactory, will receive a medal and certificate JIGSAW ACADEMY JUNIOR AND SENIOR Jazz & Tap: Classes are structured around a set syllabus while using fun and age appropriate music and techniques. Ballet: It is the essential tool for the basics of dance. Ballet promotes body placement, posture awareness and emotion while preparing the dancer for all styles of dance Contemporary: Using ballet as the basis, contemporary allows the dancers to express movements in an eccentric and selfexpressed way. Using different types of music including modern, old and instrumental Hip Hop: Run by our hip, professional and experienced teachers, these classes offer a different style of dance focusing on accented movements, isolations and urban dance style. All movements and music are age appropriate and suitable to our different age groups. B-Boys Hip Hop: Run by our Super Cool male hip hop teacher, these classes have been specifically designed for BOYS ONLY. The HIP HOP classes include the latest Hip Hop moves as well as breaking, popping and locking and a large variety of different styles and themes of dance in the dance world for boys for example: Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars just to name a few!! Acro for Dance: This program has been developed specifically to enhance strength, flexibility and co-ordination in preparation for acrobatic tricks and skills within dance. Cheer & Tumbling for Dance: Using skills from both cheer and tumbling, students are taught correct technique, lifts and pompom work while developing strength, flexibility and co-ordination in preparation for tumbling tricks within dance. Group Singing, Musical Theatre & Drama: While teaching correct vocal technique and different performance styles, our singing and drama coach gives students the opportunity to sing a wide variety of songs allowing them to development speech and language, improvisation and creative movement. Performance Troupes: These classes for those dancers wanting to commit and take their dancing to the next level. We will perform in several events through-out the year. 12 Can mum & dad watch the class? First time parents of the younger groups may watch the beginning of the first class to help settle dancers in. After this we find that the children respond much better without parents and siblings in the studio. However, after many years of experience, special tactics are used for those who have trouble separating from their parents, so don t worry if it takes your dancer a couple of weeks to feel comfortable and participate. At Jigsaw HQ, we have a viewing window where parent can watch the classes from the waiting area. For all other classes, parents are not permitted to enter or be present in the studio once class has commenced. It is distracting and unsettling for all the dancers. We will give the parents a chance to have a sneak peek for the last 10mins of class during the final week of the term 1 and 3. Is it compulsory to participate in the mid-year & end of year concert? Our concerts are not compulsory but highly recommended. It s a fun and entertaining experience for everyone involved and a great way for your dancer to show off all their hard work they have done throughout the year. Our concerts are designed to be pressure free and as relaxed as possible for everyone involved. Our mid-year concert is usually held the weekend before the June/July School Holiday and our end of year concert is usually the 3rd weekend in November, so the dancing year finishes before the massive rush and commitments of Christmas start. Does Jigsaw Dance break for School & Public Holidays? Yes - we dance within the NSW Schools Terms, therefore following NSW School holidays and Public Holidays (except our starting week of the year and our finishing week of the year). Also, our first week back of term will start on the Monday (unless it s a Public Holiday) even if your child s school has a pupil free day. Expect for Term 4 which will start on the Saturday before school starts back. Do I need to buy a dance uniform or shoes before I enroll? No - dancers trying classes for the first time are encouraged to come in comfy clothes and sneakers. Uniform can either be purchased online through our website or we have stock at the studio so you have an opportunity to be fitted on your trial day. 12
