1 JSSPS STUDENTS OF GRADE 2 &3 REJOICE -ANNUAL SPORTS DAY Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual creativity. - John F. Kennedy It is not just your body that benefits from sports. Playing sports contributes to mental health and increase self-esteem and body image. 19 th December, 2017 was a crisp and cool morning where the Annual Sports Day for Grade 2 & 3 was hosted on the soccer field of JSSPS. Our Headmistress Ms. Bindu Rajiv, HOD PE dept Mr. Subodh Dhyani, Happiness and Event Designer Mrs. Gwen Dickson and the Grade supervisors were given a wholehearted welcome

2 THE WALK PAST The program began with a walk past by students of Grade 3 led by the Junior Leaders. The Junior headboy held the school banner followed by the Head girl. The Captains of the four Houses took lead in the parade with students of the respective houses following them. Ms. Bindu Rajiv, addressed the gathering. Her inspiring speech gave a lot of encouragement to the students.

3 INTRODUCTION OF THE MASCOT Mascots continue to be a popular and an important symbol for many organizations, sports teams, schools and military. A mascot s role at a sporting event is to get the crowd in the spirit of the game. A mascot symbolizes courage, strength, speed and leadership. There was a huge round of applause for Camilla, the camel, the mascot for the sports event. RESEMBLANCE TO THE TORCH BEARING CEREMONY After the thundering applause for the mascot, was the resemblance of the Torch Bearing Ceremony. Ms. Nisha Ali, a P.E. Staff (UAE s woman cricketer who bagged the Player of the match four times in succession in the International Cricket

4 Council (ICC) Women s T20 Asia Qualifiers in Thailand) handed over the torch to the junior Sports Captain, Master Nimal Kumar and was in turn handed to Pari Patel and finally was given back to Ms. Nisha Ali. The Sports Meet was declared open by Ms. Bindu Rajiv and balloons were released in the air. The Junior house Captain came forward to administer the oath which ascertained the commitment and fairness towards his or her game. OUR CHEER LEADERS Cheer leaders are considered to be a big moral support to their team mates. The little cheer leaders were indeed lively and supportive with their message JSSPS is the best.

5 THE RHYTHMIC DRILL Rhythmic drill is a sport in which students manipulate one or two pieces of apparatus like pompoms, ribbons, hoops, rope etc. The event started off with a bang with the rhythmic drill by students of Grade 2. The balance of the drill was perfect and the students tapped their toes with pompoms, colorful handkerchiefs, satin ribbons and hula hoops. The entire event was colorful and radiantly displayed, the audience could not take their eyes off the show. They ended the drill by forming the letters JSSPS.

6 HOUSE DRILL Next in place was the House Drill where the house flags of the four houses of the school namely, Hornbill, Flamingo, Falcon and Macaw were displayed to the beat of the drum. YOGA Yoga is a traditional system of healing for the mind and the body. Artistic yoga is a style of modern yoga which includes performing yoga asanas in a dancing style. The students of Grade 3A, 3D and 3F began with the Surya Namaskar and demonstrated the various asanas with poise.

7 The flexibility of the body shown by the students was commendable. Minha Mariam and Prayas of Grade 3 were the highlight of the show with their body postures which left the entire audience spellbound. The applause after every asana clearly showed the appreciation from the crowd. TRADITIONAL DRILL It is rightly said that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body. Flexibility is important in fitness because it allows for better performance in our day-to-day activities. The students of Grade 3E, 3G & 3H came up with the traditional drill wherein they showed in their little way the importance of drill to enhance flexibility. Every beat of the drum was picked up by students effectively which clearly showed their co-ordination.

8 AEROBICS Exercises play a vital role in our lives. Once such form of exercise is the aerobic dance. It is a form of workout that is set to music and performed in a group and hence everyone enjoys it. The students of Grade 3B and 3C rocked the event through their rib-tickling outfit of Mickey Mouse and Mini Mouse. They displayed in their unique way, what fun aerobics can be. TRACK EVENTS

9 A sport event is never complete without the track events. Various races for Grade 2 and 3 were conducted. The participants were thoroughly charged and hailed by the cheer leaders. The winners were felicitated with medals. Our CEO Mr. Shivkumar made his presence felt though for a short while, which refreshed and exhilarated our students. The vote of thanks was proposed by 2 students of Grade 3- Minha and Nihaal. The Annual Sports Event saw a grand finale when all the participants assembled together and the choir group sang the school song. The entire event was a grand success. The untiring efforts of all the teachers and students was quite visible throughout the event. Overall it was a treat to the eyes as the students ardently and devotedly rendered their best.
