Athletes competed as singles, doubles, 4-person and unified teams. With about 300 bowlers from 18 Special Olympics programs, the pins were really falling fast. BSO has 8 bowlers competing. Duane Brown says he likes getting strikes and especially turkeys (3 strikes in a row). From this sectional 30 bowlers were pick to participate at the State games in June at Penn State. Send info to Mark Cole at mjcole@rcn.com Award for Joey Robb Our athlete Joey Robb was awarded the honor of Knight of the Year at an awards banquet on March 18, 2011 held by the Knights of Columbus Trinity Council #313. Our own Craig Maurer will be representing BSO as part of Team USA. Volleyball Players Recognized at Becahi Members of the Volleyball team were recognized on April 18 at the Becahi vs. Nazareth Volleyball game. Bethlehem Catholic's varsity players Alex Keller and Miles Toth have helped at BSO competitions and practices. At times, BSO will write about events that are unrelated to Special Olympics Activities. Darryl, a former NBA star, showed his generosity by greeting everyone, signing autographs and just being a nice guy. Magic Mike performed amazing tricks for everyone. This was a fun time!

Shirley Lindgren Inducted in Hall of Fame Shirley Lindgren will be inducted into the Pennsylvania Special Olympics Hall of Fame on May 18, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn s Landing.

2 Lots of fun with the Easter Bunny, Darryl Dawkins & BSO Friends Well Spring has been wet and chilly, but on Saturday, April 16 there was plenty of warmth and sunshine at the AppleBee s in Bethlehem. In addition to seeing lots of friends and having breakfast, a great crowd came out to see the Easter Bunny and meet our guest host Darryl Dawkins. Darryl, a former NBA star, showed his generosity by greeting everyone, signing autographs and just being a nice guy. Magic Mike performed amazing tricks for everyone. This was a fun time! Shirley Lindgren Inducted in Hall of Fame Shirley Lindgren will be inducted into the Pennsylvania Special Olympics Hall of Fame on May 18, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn s Landing. Shirley was one of the founders of Bethlehem Special Olympics program and was instrumental in many aspects of the program for 32 years. She served in many capacities over the years and was always there when we needed her. CONGRATULATIONS SHIRLEY! JOB WELL DONE! BSO Awards Ceremony Picnic Sunday, July 17th On July 17, 2011 we will have our Awards Ceremony Picnic, more details to follow. Congratulations to BSO basketball coaches Kelly Lyons and Harry Morra on their engagement! Bethlehem Morningstar Rotary Club for a Spaghetti Dinner Thursday, May 5 5 PM to 8 PM Join the Bethlehem Morningstar Rotary Club for a spaghetti dinner at East Hills Moravian Church, 1830 Butztown Road, Bethlehem. Tickets are $8.00 for adults, and $4 for children under 10. Tickets are available from Sue Reddinger and Louise Tusak. The Rotary has donated $5000 to BSO this year. Thank you Rotary members!

We especially like to share articles from the athletes. This months featured writer is Amanda Reiss who has submitted two articles. Thank you Amanda. Regarding the Artistic & Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition in Frederick, MD April 9 th April 10 th. Amanda Reiss I want to say we did a nice job at the competition. It was great and also lots of fun staying at the hotel. We all put in a lot of effort and we should be proud of ourselves. We did it for ourselves and made our coaches very happy. Way to go Bethlehem!! Bob Berni was a good judge at Frederick, Maryland. To Mark Cole, I want to say thank you so much for taking pictures at all of the competitions and other events. 5 2011 Eastern Bowling Sectional Photos The Call is for You. This is Bob Mauer. Bob collects cell phones and donates all the proceeds to BSO. So if you see one of these boxes setting around drop in your old phones! He is also looking for other sites to place the boxes, so if you know of any, please let him know at and he will take care of all the rest! Remember recycle those old phones for the benefit of BSO! Sports Camp Update Athlete and Coach Applications for Sports Camp will be sent out the first week in May, and are due back to Alice Moat, 1321 Wynewood Road, Orefield, PA by Thursday, May 19. If you do not receive an application, please contact Alice at or Two female coaches and one male coach are still needed to cover the athletes interested in attending.
