1 Goals 1. To get to know the dancers individually in terms of their ability. Putting dancers on pointe is done on a case by case basis. Although we understand how exciting it is to get your first pair of pointe shoes, no one will be placed on pointe unless the requirements have been mastered and the instructor feels the dancer is ready to work on pointe. 2. When a dancer first receives their Pointe shoes, for the first few months (relying on the discretion of the instructor) the dancer will only be able to use their pointe shoes during the barre exercises. Later on when they have mastered the barre exercises, they can then be on pointe in the center and across the floor. 3. Requirements for being placed on pointe are as follows: perfect posture, strong feet, legs, and ankles, good arches, no bad habits that may hinder their ability to be on pointe, a good technique base, and the ability to perform all of the class exercises correctly. 4. To instill a dress code on the first day to show how important it is to be able to see your body while dancing. 5. To reintroduce classical ballet to the dancers knowing that for the past few years, the focus has been more on lyrical jazz. 6. To break things back down to them so that even though they may be able to do the very large and exciting movements-there are certain technical aspects of their dancing that still needs focus. (standing correctly, plies, etc.) This class focuses on easy combinations that are performed very slowly in order to see each and every position of the feet and body at all times in the exercise. 7. To teach them not only the names of each step, but to teach them the definition of each step as well. 8. To remember that the teen/adults are stepping out of their comfort zones to be in this class. The main goal is to give out huge amounts of encouragement that will motivate the teen/adults through their frustration to keep moving ahead and to keep dancing.
