1 The Ballet Class 9 Shaw Street, North Bondi info@theballetclass.net.au Newsletter September 2018 Silver Celebrations The Ballet Class is delighted to be celebrating it s Silver Anniversary this year and the theme of the Finale will reflect this wonderful milestone. Our End of Year Performance is Sunday 2 nd December. Save the date! Science Theatre UNSW, Kensington, Coppelia Ballet Performance 1.30pm Senior Performance 5pm (includes all genres) All students have been allocated a part and costume. Please let us know if you do not wish to participate as preparations are already well underway. ARE YOU IN A HIGHER GRADE THAN GRADE 3 AND WOULD LIKE TO BE INVOLVED IN COPPELIA? Any Grade 4 students upwards who wish to be cast in the Junior Concert of Coppelia, please contact the office via as soon as possible. We are trying to keep costs down for all familes, once again, this year there will be no increase on costume hire or tickets for the concert. CONCERT TICKET SALES DATE Priority tickets sales will be offered to Full Time Helpers only. This pre-sale day will be Tuesday 23 rd October from 11.30am to 1.30pm at 9 Shaw Street, North Bondi. Full time helpers will be allowed to purchase a maximum of 10 tickets per family at the priority booking sale. General sales will be Saturday 27 th October 9am to 12pm at Rose Bay Beach Studio 3, New South Head Road, Rose Bay (down the lane between Westpac and Feisty Little Mouse) Ticket prices are adults - $45, concessions - $35, children under 16 - $25 If you are not able to attend the ticket sales days please order your tickets in one of the following ways; 1. Place your cash/cheque in an envelope with your details i.e. student's name, performance details, breakdown/type of tickets and pass to a teacher. 2. credit card details together with your details i.e. student's name, performance details, breakdown/type of tickets to info@theballetclass.net.au Your tickets will then be allocated with a next best seat policy and be available for collection at the Science Theatre. PLEASE DO NOT TELEPHONE THE OFFICE - WE WILL NOT BE PROCESSING TICKET SALES OVER THE TELEPHONE NEW OVERLAYS BEING MADE FOR THE END OF YEAR FINALE Please let us know now if you don t want to be involved in this dance! All Ballet Grade 3 and upwards students are cast into the Finale unless you inform us otherwise. The Finale is the very last dance of the Senior Concert, please take the time to check the rehearsal times of all your classes for Term 4 now and let us know if there are any dances you would not like to be involved in as many costumes are already being organised. If you do a find command in the Complete Casting List 2018 document attached to this newsletter, this will show you all the classes the students have been cast in with a list of all the rehearsal times.

2 Annual Demonstration Evening Saturday 15 th September 2018 from 5pm at The Church, 518 Old South Head Road, Rose Bay (corner Dover Road) Our Annual Demonstration Evening is this Saturday. All students and families of The Ballet Class are invited to come and watch our showcase of all the styles of dance which we offer together with a selection of our Eisteddfod Solo and Duet students. The evening will be started with a demonstration from our cutest little 3 year old Pre School and Angelina Ballerinas. There is a Choreographic Competition (3 minute limit) and Improvisation Competition which any student or group of students can enter for $10. The winner of the competitions takes all!! Please advise the office if you would like to take part in either of these competitions. Performing students who have already been invited are to arrive at 4.30pm. PLEASE BRING A PLATE TO BE SHARED AT THE END OF THE EVENING WE HAVE ATTACHED FOR YOUR INFORMATION THE RUNNING ORDER OF EVENTS HAPPY DANCERS FEET WORKSHOP Miss Julia will be holding a Happy Feet Workshop on Sunday 16th September from 11am- 1pm at The Church. This is a free workshop for all students from Grade 2 ballet upwards and will cover how to care for and look after you feet as a dancer plus exercises to improve the feet all under the umbrella of Happy Dancers Feet. Students will be required to book into this free workshop via . Stephanie Blann We just thought we d share these photographs with you. It s so wonderful to see Stephanie Blann blossoming in her first year at the Australian Ballet School Welcome to Sarah McCarthy We are delighted to welcome Sarah McCarthy who is in the pre-professional year of the Sydney Dance Company to The Ballet Class Team. Sarah has kindly offered to prepare and choreograph solos for students who intend to enter Solo Contemporary Eisteddfods and Competitions in Sarah will be available during Term 4 on Sundays to start work on the choreography of students wishing to work with her to prepare solos in advance and have time to perfect them ahead of the start of the 2019 Eisteddfod season. Please the office if you are interested in booking private lessons with Sarah. SYLLABUS MUSIC For only $10 - Mr Philip can put Syllabus music on a CD for practice at home. If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please give your class teacher a clearly labeled envelope with your money enclosed. Organise your character skirt braiding now! All Grade 1-6 students require a character skirt decorated with ribbons for their examination/class awards. The sewing of the ribbons on your skirt can be organised through the office. Please pass your skirt to your teacher or the office to get this done. The cost is $60 for small to large sized childrens skirts and $70 for extra large sized childrens skirts and up which includes the ribbons plus the sewing. We can also shorten the skirt for $10 if necessary.

3 Our Silver Swans are Performing! The Ballet Class are honoured to have been invited to present our Silver Swans in a demonstration performance on Saturday 29 th September at an RAD Pop Up Event at Darling Harbour. We invite you all to come and support our gorgeous Swans in their inaugural performance. Follow the link for more details. outside- spring- pop- up- event RAD Australia is excited to be partnering with Harlequin Floors and Dance Australia Magazine to give our members and the public a very special insight into our newest programmes and initiatives at our Spring pop up event. Be there as we officially launch Silver Swans TM our brand new programme for over 55 s in the picturesque location of the foreshore at Darling Harbour in the heart of Sydney. Discover the magic of repertoire with the new dance performance programme Discovering Repertoire as we demonstrate some of the development exercises and variations from this exciting new modular assessment programme. Enjoy a live professional pas de deux coaching session with Bronte Kelly (ex Royal New Zealand Ballet) and Mitchell Rayner (ex The Australian Ballet) who are currently students on our Professional Dancers' Postgraduate Teaching Certificate (PDPTC) programme. Meet our Male Dance Ambassador, Matthew Lawrence, who ll be leading a short boys only! open class and encoraging male beginners to give dance a try with our Project B choreography. All this and more as we invite RAD schools to showcase their talent on this public outdoor dance floor. We had a great day filming this week at the Royal Academy of Dance with the multi- talented Caroline O Connor, the Australian Silver Swans Ambassador Masterclasses with Jill Ogai Jill Ogai, Coryphee with The Australian Ballet, former student of The Ballet Class will be running Classical and Contemporary Masterclasses at The Ballet Class on Sunday 11 th November am Junior Classical Grades 3, 4 & am Junior Contemporary Ages Senior Classical All Vocational Levels Senior Contemporary Ages 12 and over Junior Classes $35 per class or $60 for 2. Senior Classes $45 per class or $80 for 2. Bookings for these classes are essential, please the office to confirm which classes you would like to attend and we will add the fee to your account. Silver Swans The Ballet Class has introduced Silver Swans to the timetable this year. Silver Swans is an RAD Ballet Program specifically designed for parents and grandparents. These classes will help improve your mobility, posture, co-ordination and energy levels. No previous dance experience required. 4 Timetable Changes in Term 4 This is a polite reminder that as usual there will be some changes to the timetable in Term 4. This is necessary to accommodate the End of Year Performance rehearsals. NB: All fees for each student in Term 4 will remain the same as those paid in Term 3, extra will not be charged for additional concert rehearsals. PRIVATE LESSONS If you require Private Lessons because you are away during the September/October Holiday classes or simply for extra tuition leading up to your Exam please the office. There are some lessons available during Term 3, during the Holidays and the beginning of Term 4. If any student breaks up from school prior to Friday 22 nd September and wishes to book private lessons during the daytime of this week please let the office know. October Holiday Class Timetables IMPORTANT ATTACHMENTS TO THIS NEWSLETTER 2018 SPRING HOLIDAY TIMETABLES WEEK 1 AND WEEK 2 - October holiday timetable of R.A.D. Class Award/Examination/Solo Performance Award compulsory rehearsal classes and compulsory dress rehearsal classes The October Holiday Timetable includes compulsory ballet classes for all Examination, Class Award and Solo Performance Award students. All Class Award students are required to attend 3 classes and all Examination students are required to attend at least 5 classes plus their dress rehearsal during the October Holidays. These classes will still be charged for even if not attended (as the classes are organised for each group to rehearse individually) unless alternative arrangements are made with Miss Christine prior to the holiday classes. Fees for these classes and venue addresses are included in the timetable. The fees for these classes will be added to your account witihin the next week. EXAMINATION GROUPS QUICK REF COMPULSORY CLASSES Quick Reference List for the R.A.D. Class Award/Examination/Solo Performance Award compulsory rehearsal classes in the October Holidays, compulsory dress rehearsal classes and available classes during Week 1 of Term 4 The Exam Quick Reference Holiday list includes all Class Award/Examination students. You will find all Class Award/Examination and Solo Performance Award rehearsal times during the holidays on this list, Compulsory Dress Rehearsals, and Term 4 Week 1 Examination classes collated by Class Award/ Examination groups. TERM 4 WEEKS 1-5 & 6-7 TIMETABLES There have been slight changes to the tiemtable due to clashes. Please double check your class times. Payment Fee Structure Discount Period we offer a 10% discount on regular class fees if paid within the first 2 weeks of term (Excludes: Mums & Bubs, Pre School, Twinkle Toes & Angelina Ballerina classes, Eisteddfod Groups & Private Lessons) Regular Period - Week 3 fees revert back to the regular structure. Late Period Week 5 any outstanding fees incur a 10% late fee A reminder that one term notice is required if a student will not be continuing with their classes.
