3 October 14 th 2011 Ashley Neal Page 3 This week in the Agenda we ll be looking at pages 64 through 67. This covers Monday, October 3 rd, through Sunday, October 16 th. The Agenda is packed full of fun, interesting tidbits this week! Read on to find out what advice this cute, little books has for us. The character trait for October is courage. Some synonyms of this trait are bravery, guts, nerve, and valor. Some antonyms are cowardice, fear, and spinelessness. So, here are some questions for you: what does it mean to be courageous? Do you possess this trait? What is risk and how does courage help us deal with it? Courage includes the quality of spirit that enables one to face difficult situations without showing fear. It s strength of mind that enables someone to endure adversity. The vocabulary words for this week are credence and defer. Credence is a noun and it s an attitude that something s believable and should be accepted as true. Defer is a verb that means to delay or put off to some other time. To me credence is a synonym of trust. When you have credence, you hope and believe what s said to you. Defer is a synonym of procrastinating, When you defer your homework at school, you re procrastinating. Here are some interesting study tips that may make studying more fun for you! J Stay on the offensive, especially with material that you don t find interesting, rather than reading passively and missing important parts. We remember best the things that are most meaningful to us. As you read, try to elaborate upon new information with your own examples. History is always enticing, and this week s agenda makes no exceptions! Read on to learn some more about what happened this day in history! In 1990, The Ulysses Spacecraft, designed to study the poles of the sun was launched on October 6 th. In 1925, Margaret Thatcher was born on October 13 th. Quotes are my favorite things in the whole universe. The agenda always provides some meaningful tidbits of life. Here they are! Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway. John Wayne All truth passes through three phases: first, it is considered absurd and is ignored or ridiculed. Next, it is considered dangerous to the status quo and viciously attacked. Finally, it is considered wholesome; indeed, self-evident. Arthur Schopenhauer Did you know that 58% of U.S. newspapers are recycled? The key to listening is with the eyes and the heart. Great listeners listen whole-heartedly and mirror back what the individual is telling them. Listen with the intent to understand, not reply. It s beautiful to be honest, so be honest and ask yourself these following questions: T/F I defend people when they are getting picked on. T/F I possess the courage to stand up to pressure.

7 October 17, 2011 Isaac Spencer Page 7 Hey there Mustangs, we at the Mustanger are here again to tell you about some of the great soccer news that s been going on and how great the season is looking this year. Also, there are pictures from the parent s night that was this previous Monday where the parents of our wonderful soccer players came out to show off their girls. This year s soccer season is going well and shows lots of promise for the lady Mustangs. We have a great seasonal standing of five, nine, and two for this year. In recent games the lady Mustangs have played against Delphos Jefferson, Lincolnview, and Coldwater. Allen East won against Delphos Jefferson with the fantastic score of four to zero. The game that the lady Mustangs played at Lincolnview this previous Monday we pulled away with another great win with a score of seven to one. And then the game previous to Lincolnview the girls tried very hard but lost with a score of zero to three.

8 October 14, 2011 Cole Meyer Page 8 Hey there Mustangs, the football season has started off slow under the coaching of the new head coach Mike Abbey. But we all know he is building the foundation for the future generations of the Allen East Mustang Football program. Allen East v. Bluffton On Friday September 30, the Mustangs played Bluffton at Bluffton. The game started off with Bluffton s Robbie Stratton throwing a 4 yard pass to Matt Gillett for a touchdown; they missed the kick for the extra point. Once again in the first quarter Stratton threw a pass this time for 19 yards to Gillett; they gave the ball to Matt Deter who ran it in for 2 extra points. To start off the second quarter Allen East s Casey Crow threw a 14 yard pass to Tyler Wilson for a Mustang touchdown. Austin Lloyd kicked it in for the extra point. This concluded the half with the score Bluffton 14 and Allen East 7. To start off the half, Bluffton s Jeremy Basinger rushed the ball 15 yards for a touchdown; Matt Deter kicked and made the extra point. In the fourth quarter the Allen East Mustangs very own Logan Rex rushed the ball for 10 yards for a touchdown, Lloyd sunk the ball right through the uprights for the extra point. Unfortunately the Mustangs lost to Bluffton with the score being Bluffton 21 and Allen East 14. Evan Thomas running the ball for a Mustang touchdown Allen East v. Paulding On Friday October 7, the Mustangs played a home game against Paulding. To start off the game the Mustangs Casey Crow threw a 12 yard pass to Tyler Wilson for a touchdown; the extra point kick didn t make it. To start off the second quarter, Casey Crow threw yet another complete pass for 15 yards to Evan Thomas for another touchdown and Austin Lloyd made the kick for the extra point. For the third time in the game the Mustangs scored when Thomas rushed for 13 yards, and again Lloyd s extra point kick was a success. Paulding answered with Julian Salinas throwing a 73 yard pass to Lance Foor for a touchdown; they went for 2 and got it by giving the ball to Drew Burnett. At the half the Mustangs had 20 and Paulding had 8. To start off the third quarter Ross Stewart rushed for 5 yards for a touchdown and Lloyd made the extra point. Paulding scored off of two passes one was 10 and the other was for 32 yards, both to Lance Foor. They missed an extra point but made a 2 point run by Logan Doster. In the fourth quarter the Mustangs Ross Stewart rushed for 3 yards, but the extra point attempt ended in failure. Later in the quarter Paulding tried to run the ball a short distance for a touchdown but fumbled and it was recovered by the Mustangs very own John Stephens. The Allen East Mustangs won their first game of the season with the final score being Allen East 33 and Paulding 22. Q. How is your first year as head coach going? A. It s been going as expected, a little rough, but we are coaching hard each day. Q. What are some things you re doing different this year? A. We are offensively similar; defensively we are playing a 5-2 and more zone coverage. Q. Are you excited for the next football season? A. Yes, we have a lot of young kids this year so next year they will have matured mentally and physically. Q. Is there anything else you want to add? A. In order for us to win more games we need more kids, so come out for the team.

9 October 14 th, 2011 Narada Reanprayoon Page 9 This year s golf season went well. The team ended up at 17-6 in matches and 14-4 in The Northwest Conference. They ended up 2 nd place in the league behind LCC. They came in 3 rd at the sectional tournament with a final score 336. The Allen East Mustang Golf Team had a really great season this year. They placed 3 rd in the sectional tournament on September 29, 2011 at Sycamore Springs Golf Club in Arlington, Ohio with a total score of 336, behind Van Buren and New Riegel. Since they earned the third place, that means they moved on to the district tournament. This is the first time in four years, since 2007, that they made it to the district tournament. For the Allen East team, Tanner Richardson was the one who had the best score, 83, in the sectional tournament. He was followed by Clay Plaugher (84), Lucas Herrmann (85), Dylan Mullholland (86), and Tyler Stevens (93). Team: Allen East Out In total 1 Tanner Richardson Clay Plaugher Lucas Herrmann Dylan Mullholland Tyler Stevens On Thursday, October 6, 2011, the Allen East Mustang golf team traveled to Stone Ridge Golf Club at Bowling Green, Ohio for the district tournament. This time, they did not fare so well. It might have been that they had to wait an extra hour to tee off and it made them tired. So they ended up with total score of 371 and in 18 th place out of 18 teams. Dylan Mullholland shot an 83, which was the best score for the team at the district tournament. He was followed by Clay Plaugher (94), Lucas Herrmann (96), Tyler Stevens (98), and Tanner Richardson (100). The Allen East Mustang golf team did a very good job this year, even though, they didn t get past the district tournament and make it to the state tournament. But next year they will have 4 returing lettermen who give them an excellent chance to make it back to districts and possibly even state!

24 October 14, 2011 Amanda Baker Page 24 Favorite Animals My favorite Animals are Cats, Dogs, and Turtles. I like Cats, because they are agile and always land on their feet. I like dogs because they are man s best friend, and they protect their owners as well as being respectable. I like turtles, because they are calm, all they want to do is lay there and go with the flow. Drew Swaney My Favorite Music My favorite music is Country music. My favorite singer is Brantley Gilbert or Taylor Swift. I love Taylor Swift music because she has a song for anything and everything, I love it. And well, Brantley Gilbert is really cute and he has an awesome voice, I love his song, My Kinda Crazy. It s like the best song ever. Abby Wright My favorite food is sushi. The best part about sushi is the texture and taste of it. My favorite place that I get sushi is Tokyo steak house in Findlay. Most people don t give it a try and are closed minded to it but it is really good if you just give it a chance. John Stephens Wr e s t l i n g Wrestling is my least favorite sport and it s one of the toughest sports I play. I have been to State three years in a row and the last year I went I placed in the top 16. In the regular season I went 27-0 and won my weight class in the Northwest Conference. Braden Goodwin

25 October 14 th, 2011 Drew Swaney Page 25 This week s polls question is: What would you do for a Klondike bar? Braden Goodwin: I d go to the north pole and streak with the polar bears. Anthony Evans: I would spend a whole day with Daniel McKeague (voice of the aflac duck.) Jon Swaney: I would do anything for a Klondike bar. Mrs. Prichard: I would do a cartwheel. Anna Burkey: I have never had a Klondike bar, but I would eat a thrown up banana peel. Ms. Downey: I would run 100 miles. Abby Joyner: I would illegally join the Italian Mafia, and take it over. Josh Nickles: I would bare knuckle box a grizzly bear, and then skydive into a thorn bush. Chaz Moore: I would get up, walk to the kitchen, open the freezer, take one out of the box, unwrap it, and eat it. Mr. Prichard: I would wrestle a grizzly bear, wearing a bikini. Megan Sommers: I would steal a little kids Klondike bar. Jordan Sloan: I would World War two by myself. Klarc Sweigart: I would jump off of the school.
