1 2016 Dubois County 4-H Fair Queen Contest Sunday, July 10, 2016 Jasper High School Gym Applications are LI MITED!!! 20 Contestants - Miss Dubois County must be 17 years of age by June 1, 2016 but younger than age 22 on June 1, Contestants - Teen Miss Dubois County must be 14 years of age on June 1, 2016 but not have reached age 17 on June 1, 2016 Applications available online - April 1, 10:00 a.m. Call Queen Committee Chair, Sandy Neukam at for questions about becoming a contestant. All possible contestants for Teen Miss and Miss Dubois County should plan to attend an informational meeting on Sunday, April 3 at 4:30 in the Clover Pavilion Office. Applications can be turned in beginning April 6 at 8:30 a.m. and due no later than 4:00 p.m. on April 25.

Sponsors, parents and candidates interested in participating in the contest are invited to attend. Anyone wanting more information about the contest is welcome to attend this special meeting. If possible, Moriah Fleck, last year's queen, and Lauren Tretter, last year's Teen Miss will be sharing with the contestants what they might expect while participating in the contest. 3 2016 County Queen Miss & Teen Miss Contestants Rules and Responsibilities 1. Each Teen Miss contestant must be 14 years of age by June 1, 2016 and cannot have reached their 17t11 birthday on or before June 1, Each Miss contestant must be at least 17 years of age by June 1, 2016 and cannot have reached their 22nd birthday on or before June 1, A contestant may be male/female, unmarried/married, with/without children. 4. A contestant must be a Dubois County, Indiana resident, and a U.S. citizen, and represent her home county. One of her parents or legal guardians must also be a Dubois County, Indiana resident. The only exception: she and her parent(s) may reside in an adjoining Indiana county if the majority of her activities are in Dubois County. 5.. Each contestant must be an active member of at least one worthwhile organization in her community; i.e. church groups, girl scouts, 4-H, etc. Eligibility is not limited to 4-H membership. 6. No professional model is eligible for the Dubois County Queen Contest. (A professional model is one who earns a livelihood by modeling.) A contestant who has had training or schooling in the modeling field, has been paid on occasion for modeling or works for a fashion board is not considered a professional model. 7. Any contestant who has won in the Dubois County's Queen Contest is ineligible to enter again. 8. Transportation for contestants to and from Dubois County Queen Contest events is the responsibility of each contestant. 9. Contestants should give thoughtful consideration to their use of social media and. be advised the Dubois County Queen Contest reviews all contestants' internet presence for appropriate online behavior. 10. This year a point system is being implemented to encourage attendance at practices. It is the committee's feeling if you are participating in the contest, it is important for you to commit to the activities planned for you. A contestant will be awarded 2 points for each practice attended, beginning with the Get Acquainted Night. A contestant is required to attended ONE make-up session which is also awarded 2 points. Dress Rehearsal will be awarded 5 points. These accumulated points will be added to the judge's totals on contest day. (Possible 15 point total) 11. Each Dubois County Queen contestant will be judged on the basis of poise, personality, and ability to converse. This judging is divided into three divisions: Miss: Div. I- Interview: Ability to converse: Personality: Poise: Div Formal Wear: Stage Presence: Overall Impression: Stage Question 50 points total 30 points total

II - Formal Wear: Stage Presence: Overall Impression: Stage Question 65 points total 25 points 35 points total The following attire is REQUIRED for the Dubois County and Indiana State Fair Queen Contest: DIVISION 1: INTERVIEW Attire: Black pants or skirt and white blouse for Miss and Teen Miss contestants. Each contestant will have one, three-minute interview with each of the three judges. Therefore, each contestant will give three separate interviews (9-minutes total), answering impromptu questions asked by each judge. Qualities depicting a good interview: interesting, sincere, honest, natural, poised, ability to articulate, relaxed, self-confident, YOURSELF. DIVISION 2: Formal Wear Attire: Formal Gown or Tuxedo for both Miss and Teen Miss contestants. At least one portion of the evening gown's hemline needs to be floor length (touching the floor or the contestant's foot). Other portions of the dress may be knee or tea length, depending on the design of the dress. Gowns with the skirt split above the knee (more than 2" above the kneecap) and/or /ow-cut bodice and/or cut/design inappropriate for the state pageant may be discounted by the judges. To show versatility you may want to select a gown which is a different color from your professional wear. The gown shall be one that reflects the contestant's individual personality. A long evening gown gives the best appearance on stage as well as for judging. To maintain your poise and confidence, it is important that you feel comfortable in your gown. Think twice about choosing a gown with a hoop skirt. The stage is crowded so turning may be difficult. Poor poise may be reflected. Keep in mind that the spotlights are very bright; wear a long slip, particularly if your gown is either sheer or light in color. Gloves and jewelry are optional in formal competition.

5 DIVISION 3: PROFESSIONAL WEAR Attire: Suit. Pant Suit. OR Dress- Miss contestants only. Pant suits or pant separates will be allowed. Suit pieces do not have to be of same fabric. Separates will be allowed. SHOES We suggest shoes be pumps or sandals with a 2 to 3-inch heel for the evening gown competition. A shoe with a 2 to 3-inch heel will flatter your legs and figure, as well as make you feel more comfortable and confident while you are walking. This size heel is only a suggestion and not required. Practice in your shoes to make yourself feel at ease in them before the pageant. 11. The Dubois County 4-H Queen Committee reserves the right to screen all contestants. Failure to comply with these requirements could result in the loss of judging points in the evaluation of the two divisions, professional wear and evening gown. 12. The 2016 titles are- Miss, Miss 1st Runner-Up, Miss 2nd Runner-Up, Miss 3rd Runner-Up, Miss Congeniality, Miss Photogenic, Teen Miss, and Teen Miss 1st Runner-Up. Miss Congeniality will be voted on by BOTH the Miss and Teen Miss contestants on the day of the Queen Contest. 13. The Queen, 1, 2, and 3 Runners-Up, Miss Congeniality, Miss Photogenic, Teen Miss and Teen Miss 1st Runner-Up will be required to be available during the County 4-H Fair to be present at all events and activities to which they are assigned. Please note that the Dubois County Queen selected at the 2016 Dubois County Fair, will compete for the 2017 Indiana State Fair Queen title.
