2 LEGALLY BLONDE Music and Lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin Book by Heather Hach Based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture Presented by UMBC Musical Theatre Club ---And now some legal jargon!--- LEGALLY BLONDE is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI, 421 West 54 th Street, New York, NY Tel.: (212) Fax: (212) Original Production by Hal Luftig, Fox Theatricals, Dori Berinstein, James L. Nederlander, Independent Presenters Network, Roy Furman, Amanda Lipitz, Broadway Asia, Barbara Whitman, FWPM Group, Hendel/Wiesenfeld, Goldberg/Binder, Stern/Meyer, Lane/Comley, Bartner-Jenkins/Nocciolino and Warren Trepp; Produced in association with MGM Onstage, Darcie Denkert and Dean Stolber. The videotaping or other video or audio recording of this production is strictly prohibited. MTC welcomes you to Legally Blonde: The Musical, a comedic and energetic presentation of SoCal sorority girl Elle Woods path through Harvard Law School. DIRECTORS NOTES In today s world, shows that are unafraid to ridicule systemic issues are necessary, and Legally Blonde s spectacle and absurdity places both sexism and stereotypes down stage center. The amazing level of comedy allows the show to maintain a light air while discussing incredibly heavy issues. Even a show as ridiculous as this can start dialogue and make real change. Throughout the rehearsal process this cast has pushed themselves to find true, personal motivations every step of the way both on and off the stage. I could not be more proud of them. They exceeded my expectations from day one, and I am so lucky to work with such amazing talent. This show was made beautiful by the individuality brought to it. Designers, actors, directors, management, and pit members all brought their own vision to this show. The melding of these visions created something truly stunning. -Jason A quote by Bohdi Sanders says that one should Focus on making [themselves] better, not on thinking that [they] are better and I believe this applies strongly to Elle Woods. Her ability to make herself stronger and not bring anyone else down is something I think everyone can stand to learn. The cast of Legally Blonde has made me better. I am more than proud of all the hard work they have put into this show. I couldn t ask for a better experience or a better cast and crew. -Cayleigh
