2 2 VOCAL MUSIC DEPARTMENT ON A MISSION OF HOPE WE HOPE WE CAN! Our Music I, Music II, and Black and Gold students are hoping you will join us on our mission to spread hope to others this fall. Our fall concert theme is "Hope" and all of the music has a text that reflects this theme. In order to spread hope to others, we will be collecting donations of non-perishable food items, as well as paper towels and toilet paper for an organization called River of Refuge. This organization focuses on transitioning homeless families with jobs from high-rental motels and shelters into permanent housing. Our whole school will participate in the food drive on Thursday, October 25th - Thursday, November 1st. You can also bring items to our November 1st concert. Please considering supporting our cause to bring hope to others. 3 3 more than students bringing me coffee to my room, it s the special students who light up the start of my day with a smile, pride, and a sense of accomplishment in delivering me a fresh cup of coffee. NEW PLMS KINDNESS COUNCIL The PLMS Jazz Band worked furiously in rehearsal after receiving energy from Krispy Kreme doughnuts on Friday. Looking ahead, they hope to acquire a sponsorship from Krispy Kreme in the near future. PLMS is starting its very first Kindness Council. The council will be made up of 7 th and 8 th grade students who choose to apply and get accepted. The purpose of the council is to help encourage inclusivity, along with a positive school climate. Students who join the Kindness Council will help to come up with activities to help encourage their fellow peers to have a good day, along with spreading kindness wherever they go. Activities may include things such as handing out positivity pencils, You Matter Cards, and more. We all know that just one kind word can change someone s entire day, so let s inspire kindness and positivity at PLMS. PLMS BEVERAGE CART Students in the Life Skills classroom again this year are in charge of the PLMS Beverage Cart. Students fill orders and deliver beverages to teachers and staff throughout the building. LSHS TIGER TRIVIA NIGHT The Lee s Summit High School Scholar Bowl Team will host Tiger Trivia Night from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. November 3 at the school s lecture hall, 400 SE Blue Parkway. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Scholar Bowl Team. In addition to the trivia contest, the fundraiser will include a silent auction and drawings throughout the evening. Auction items at last year s event included tickets to sporting events and autographed Royals memorabilia. Ages 14 and above are welcome to play. Child care services (provided by LSHS Student Senate) will be available for children ages 13 and under. The cost is $10/hour for the first child and $3/hour for additional siblings. Teams of up to eight people may participate for $80, and individual registration is $15 per person. Individuals will be placed on a team with others registering individually. This year s Trivia Night features a VIP table package, available for $100 for eight team members. The VIP package includes a mulligan sticker for each round, one double down sticker, eight raffle tickets, eight beverages and two large bowls of popcorn. This life skill brings an immense send of pride to the students and great joy to the staff. Donetta Schults said The beverage cart is Space is limited, and early registration is recommended. The entire handbook is available on our home page of our website PLMS.LSR7.ORG GRADING SYSTEM The following standardized grading scale is used: A = B- = D+ = A- = C+ = D = B+ = C = D- = B = C- = F = 59 & below (No Credit) HONOR ROLLS/GPA The middle schools use a 4-point grading system. The Scholarship Honor Roll requires a 3.00 GPA (B average). HEALTH ROO REPORT CARDS Report cards for all middle school students are issued quarterly. Reports will be sent home with students through advisory the first three quarters. Fourth quarter grades will be mailed one week after school ends. End of First Quarter: October 11, 2018 End of Second Quarter: December 19, 2018 End of Third Quarter: March 8,2019 End of Fourth Quarter: May 17, 2019 STUDENT PROMOTION GUIDELINES A student has the opportunity to earn a total of 7 units during the school year. To be promoted to the next grade level, a student must earn a minimum of 5 1 / 2 units. At least three of those 5 1 / 2 units must be earned in the core courses of language arts, math, science, and social studies. The final decision to promote a student will be made by the building administration. Consideration will be given in second semester to students who demonstrate marked improvement in academic performance.
