1 William Jewell Dance Challenge Sunday, January 15th, 2017 William Jewell College - Mabee Center - Liberty, Missouri The William Jewell Dance Challenge provides an opportunity to receive valuable, faceto-face feedback from judges with a strong background in Missouri and national dance team competitions. All Missouri high school dance teams, drill teams, and pom squads are invited to participate in the competition and may enter up to 3 routines in the following categories: Dance/Jazz, Pom, Mix, Hip Hop, Kick, and Prop. Each team may only enter one routine per category and must adhere to the category guidelines and time limits as set by the State Competition. Trophies will be awarded for the top scoring routines in each category. The William Jewell Dance Challenge qualifies as a MDTA Missouri State approved competition and fulfills the requirement necessary to compete in the Missouri State Dance Competition. This competition will be open to dance teams in Kansas as well that are seeking additional performance experience and professional feedback. *Dance studios are also welcome to enter the competition. If you are a studio interested in competing, the one routine per category and 3 routine limit does not apply. Please coaches for more information on studio competition. The entry fee for the competition is $60 per team per category. For teams with additional entries in categories there will be a $10 discount for each additional team routine added. Solos, Duets and Trios are also welcome to compete in the William Jewell Dance Challenge. There is no limit to how many solos, duets and trios each team may enter. At the Dance Challenge we will award trophies to the top five solos, top five duets and top five trios. The solo, duet and trio with the highest score will be asked to perform again towards the end of the competition as an exhibition routine. Entry fees for solos, duets and trios are $35 per entry. For each additional entry per team a $10 reduced rate will be applied. Upon completion of the competition, there will be live feedback with the judges concerning all group routines. Please check the box on the registration form if interested in live critique. Solos, Duets and Trios will receive feedback in document form, along with a scoring guide. Check-in Check-in will begin at 7:30 am. It is important all teams and individuals check-in at least two hours before they are to perform. Please make sure that you enter in through the doors closest to the field at the Mabee center. When each team comes through this door, it will lead directly to the table in which teams can check in. Please check-in with the individual at the table, grab your informational packet and one of the Crimson Dancers will lead you to your dressing area.

2 Mabee Center: Competition Schedule Break down of scheduling will be available two weeks before the competition. A tentative schedule will be available in December. Check-in will start at 7:30 am for teams performing, doors will open for spectators at 8:30 am, and the competition will begin at 9:30 am. Rules and Regulations Please make sure that you arrive to the competition two hours before your first routine is scheduled to perform. Make sure that you are in your assigned dressing area and that your belongings stay in the area. William Jewell is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. Please do not bring in any outside food or drinks (water is allowed). There will be a concession stand along with multiple vendors for food and drinks. The performance area is a regulation basketball court. There will be two practice areas before you reach the performance court. No teams are allowed on the performance court until their scheduled time. The practice courts will have assigned times. If it is not your allotted time, please leave the practice courts

3 clear. More information on scheduling will be sent out closer to the competition date. Please stay in the designated competition area. No teams or spectators will be allowed into the locker rooms, the pool area, or the offices upstairs. If technical difficulties occur, the team will have the option to redo their performance. Coaching packets, which include team music and scoring sheets, must be picked up at the conclusion of the competition at the check-in desk. Packets will not be available for pick-up after the day of the competition. Scoring Routines will be evaluated based upon appearance, choreography, technique, synchronization, showmanship and overall effect. Deductions will not be made for illegal moves, but judges will inform teams of these so they may be changed before the state competition. The competition will follow the rules and safety regulations set forth by MSHSAA and NFHS. There will be no inspection before performing, but dancers should remove all facial/body piercings and ensure nails are trimmed to an appropriate length. After awards ceremony, teams will have the opportunity to meet with judges for live feedback. If interested in meeting with a judge for feedback, please mark on registration form so that a timeslot can be scheduled. Timeslots will be minutes per team. Please visit for a more detailed idea of scoring and safety regulations. Music Music must be turned in at the music station the morning of the competition in CD form. Please check to make sure before the competition that the CD works and bring multiple back-ups. CDs must be labeled with performance number, category, and team name. Profane or vulgar music will not be allowed and may result in disqualification from the category or deductions from scores. All music must be appropriate for all audiences. All music must comply with copyright laws. Upon completion of the competition, all music will be returned to teams with scoring information. Tickets All team members and coaches will have free entry. If you are part of a team competing, please make sure that you enter in through the set of doors that are closest to the football field. All spectators need to enter in through the farthest doors from the football field. The entrance will be marked for spectators. Spectator tickets will be $5.00 for the entire day. All spectators will receive a stamp to come and go from the competition throughout the day. Spectators ages 3 and under have free entry into the competition. William Jewell College students with a valid William Jewell ID will receive a discounted entry into the competition for $2.00 and will also receive a stamp allowing entry and exit throughout the extent of the competition.
