The SRC offers us a platform to serve our school to the best of our ability. The SRC wants to serve Stellenberg with our time, our talents and our energy. We can only be effective if we operate as one, and this encompasses our goal for the year: Unity. 2 63 A-gemiddeldes! Baie geluk aan 2016 se Matrieks met hul uitslae! Uit die jaargroep behaal 63 Stellies n A-gemiddeld en 92.05% kwalifiseer vir universiteitstoelating. Raheez Morta is die topkandidaat met n gemiddelde persentasie van 94.67%. Vyftien leerders behaal sewe A-simbole, 17 behaal ses A-simbole en 18 leerders spog met vyf A s. Stellenberg kry ook n WKOD-toekenning vir volgehoue akademiese uitnemendheid by die jaarlikse WKODprysuitdeling. Die personeel is trots op dié groep wat voortgebou het op die afgelope 30 jaar se akademiese tradisie in HS Stellenberg. - Mev Y Havinga: Hoof van Akademie Van die leerders wat A-gemiddeldes behaal het en hul uitslae op 5 Januarie in ontvangs kom neem het.

4 Welkom aan die nuwe Stellenberg-personeel. Ons weet dat hulle vinnig hul voete gaan vind en nog diep spore by Stellenberg gaan trap. Tersia Havenga is tydelik vir hierdie kwartaal aangestel. Ms. H. 5 Marnus Myburgh is die jaar by Stellenberg aangestel om ons sport na nog hoër vlakke te neem. So het hy alreeds sy stempel afgedruk by die Protea-netbalspan. Hy het opgevlieg Durban toe en was vanaf Januarie betrokke by hulle fiksheidstoetse. Die Protea-span neem vanaf Januarie in Durban deel aan die Quad-toernooi tussen Suid-Afrika, Nieu Seeland, Australië en Engeland.

6 Baie geluk aan die volgende Stellies wat aan die einde van 2016 in eksterne musiekeksamens presteer het. Prestasies bo 90% kwalifiseer vir Musiek-erekleure. In die hoër praktiese eksamens, gr.5 en hoër, kwalifiseer n leerder vir erekleure indien hy/sy 2 agtereenvolgende eksamens met lof slaag. Graad 8 s kan ongelukkig nie erekleure ontvang vir n eksamen in die laerskool afgelê nie. Die volgende leerders kwalifiseer vir erekleure in musiek. 8 abducted accepted It all started on Monday, 9 January. The hall was prepared and the SRC, donning their glasses, were ready. The Grade 8s arrived in their masses. They were received in the school hall and were taken on a tour of the school. The theme was introduced and so the aliens were abducted. On Tuesday the SRC accompanied the aliens to Eversdal Primary School for the gala day. The interhouse cheerleaders and SMK/SSK singers joined in the mal gees. After the official gala had finished, the aliens jumped into the pool for aerobics.

9 On Wednesday and Thursday morning the aliens arrived on the cricket field in their special alien outfits. They performed their Grade 8 song, the school song and practised parade each morning. Each break was spent meeting their Grade Heads, the principal or sport teachers. On Friday the 13th the Grade 8s participated in their Athletics day. They had to wear a shirt that represented their house colour (emeralds, rubies and sapphires). On Saturday morning the SRC set up boeresports for the aliens. Sack races, egg and spoon, and three-legged races were only a few of the 15 games played that day. The boeresport was followed by the Waatlemoen Fees where the Grade 8s finally had the opportunity to smother mean /stern SRC members with watermelon. The aliens went home to refresh themselves and returned to school for a session with CROSS and the Stellenberg NG Kerk band, Plofstoff. The SRC joined their groups for dinner after the session. The Grade 8s were then introduced to the different SRC committees and watched a show presented by the Culture Committee. The Grade 8s were treated to sokkie lessons, followed by a parade practice. The aliens welcomed the new day by watching the sunrise and singing the school song.

10 On Wednesday the aliens first blazer ceremony was held. The Grade Heads, the principal, head of academics and The Welcome and Introduction hosts delivered their respective speeches. Erik Vermeulen (Head Chairperson) welcomed the Grade 8s into the Stellies family and allowed them to don their blazers for the first time. This was followed by the singing of the school song. It was a very long and tiring week but the Grade 8s earned a spot in the heart of each and every SRC member. - Josie de Waal (Welcome and Introduction hostess) Die studenteraad het 12 Januarie 'n etiketklas vir die gr8's aangebied. Hulle het deur middel van klein opvoerings aan die graad 8's verduidelik wat die regte en verkeerde manier is om onder andere n klas te verlaat, met n onderwyser te praat en in die gange te stap. Ons hoop al ons aliens het mooi geluister!

11 Aan die einde van 2016, toe die meeste Stellies al met vakansie was, het 'n paar van ons gr.9-dogters deelgeneem aan 'n film shoot vir 'n nuwe BBC-mini-reeks: The Last Post. The mini-series is based on a story of civil unrest in Yemen due to British Colonisation in It follows the lives of both the British Royal Military Police and their families, and the people of Yemen. Nine Stellenberg learners were selected to portray a chamber choir of British nurses. They had to sing an a cappella version of Silent Night. The filming took place on 29 November in a very windy and cold Muizenberg. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience, even though they had to wait for extended periods of time - in full costume. The actresses said that the buffet breakfast and lunch were excellent, and that the pay was great! According to Hannes Nortjé, the casting director of Film Africa, the BBC directors loved our girls and were extremely impressed by them. He will let us know when to expect the series release. Baie dankie, Caitlin Basson, Bianca de Villiers, Beate Geldenhuys, Inge Gerber, Selina Hansen, Marethe Honey, Jessica-Ann Masson, Michaella Mostert en Elcke Neethling, dat julle so vinnig en entoesiasties reageer het. Julle is waardige ambassadeurs van Stellenberg, en ons sien daarna uit om julle op TV te sien!

12 The German exchange programme started with a visit to the Kruger National Park. The host families of Stellenberg, Tygerberg and DF Malan welcomed their guests on 12 January. En toe het die pret begin: Treinry, stadtoer, Waterfront, Macassar, Robben Eiland, Kaappunt en skoolbesoek. Deurentyd het die families die besoekers ook nog ons mooi land gewys. We bid farewell to our new brothers and sisters on 28 January. En dan sien ons hulle waarskynlik weer in Desember. n Baie dinamiese groep Cross-leiers het van 27 tot 29 Januarie by Die Eiland-kampterrein (Jonkershoek) gaan kamp. Zanne Cronjé is as voorsitter verkies en Carla Richter as ondervoorsitter. Behalwe vir spanbou-aktiwiteite en oomblikke van fellowship is daar intensief beplan en geskaaf aan verskeie projekte vir Die jaar se temavers is 1 Timoteus 4:12; Niemand mag op jou neersien omdat jy jonk is nie, maar wees jy vir die gelowiges n voorbeeld in woord en gedrag, in liefde, geloof en reinheid. Cross-kringe begin op 9 Februarie en die eerste Cross-week is Februarie. Op 4 Maart hou Cross n Ma-en-dogter-High Tea. Dit beloof om n hoogtepunt op die kalender te wees. Ander projekte en datums sal deurlopend op die skoolkalender aangeteken word.

13 Stellenberg had an excellent weekend of cricket. Our teams played in the various age group leagues against Milnerton on 21 January. U.14 A Our u.14 A-team beat Milnerton by two wickets on the Stellenberg B-Field. Milnerton batted first and was restricted to 167 runs all out. Stef Grobbelaar (3 for 12), Matthew Messina (3 for 23) and Thomas Killian (2 for 14) were Stellenberg s star bowlers in our attack. In retaliation Stellenberg scored 170 for eight: Christiaan de Beer, 39 runs; Stef Grobbelaar, 33 runs, and Thomas Killian all contributed to Stellenberg s excellent innings. Well done, u.14 A s! O.15 A Stellenberg kolf eerste en teken 138 lopies aan. Die grootste bydrae met die kolf was Ruan Bastiaanse se 27 lopies, Marko van Wyk se 26 en Dian de Beer se 24. Milnerton kon net 121 lopies aanteken voor hul hele span terug was op die pawiljoen. Die sterboulers van Stellenberg: Dian de Beer neem 4 paaltjies vir 17 lopies en Ruan bastiaanse 3 vir slegs 8 lopies. Ons o.15 A- span wen Milnerton met 17 lopies!. Baie geluk! Stellenberg First 11 Milnerton was sent in to bat first and was bowled out for a mere 107 runs. Johann van der Merwe, the opening bowler, took 5 wickets for only 17 runs - excellent bowling. Our spinner, J.T. Schoeman, took 3 for 11 runs. Again, great bowling. Stellenberg scored the winning runs in less than 20 overs, scoring 111 for three. The top batsmen in our innings: Rhyno Marais 46; Ludwig Sander 26 and Cody Nieuwoudt 18 runs. Our first team beat Milnerton by seven wickets what an excellent achievement. Congratulations to our first team as well as to our two junior teams. A job well done!

15 Op 21 Januarie het Hoërskool Stellenberg se jaarlikse uitnodigingsbyeenkoms plaasgevind. Watter groot voorreg was dit nie om soveel talentvolle atlete hier te kon verwelkom! Die doel van hierdie byeenkoms is om die atlete voor te berei vir die strawwe atletiekseisoen. Die atlete van Paul Roos Gimnasium, HMS Bloemhof, Paarl Girl s High, HS Durbanville, HTS Drostdy en HS Stellenberg het uistekend presteer. 16 Oloff van Achterberg, Werner Botha en Daneldi Potgieter is opgeneem in die o.19 Inter Pro-span wat vanaf 31 Maart - 4 April gaan deelneem aan die Inter Pro-toernooi in Pretoria. Reece Frye made the u.15 WP-team and is playing in Pretoria against Gauteng Central and Gauteng North from 3-5 February. 17 Ebonie Gaskin, a Grade 12 learner, was selected for the SA u.17 netball team last year and participated in the training camp from January 2017, in Durban. This team will tour to Fiji in May Ebonie also had the opportunity to meet the Protea players and watch the Quad series between South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and England live in Durban. We are so proud of you and we wish you all the best, Ebonie. You are proof that hard work pays off. You are truly a great role model, both on and off the court. A fundraiser will be launched in order to support Ebonie with the costs of the tour A Proud Moment: Danelle Lochner (old Stellies Netball captain 2015, Now SA u.21 player) and Ebonie Gaskin with Sharni Layton from Australia.

18 Jean Craythorne (gr.12) het die afgelope vakansie aan die Trans Agulhas deelgeneem. Hulle het 5 strande in 5 dae besoek en in totaal 700km afgelê. Jean en Ruben Scholtz was die jongste ingeskrewe span en hul eindig 4de in die "Pro Stock Class". Oudleerders Wade Ball en Bobby Shaw het derde in die "Modified Class" geëindig. Christiaan, Wardo en Rudi Kriel, asook Stiaan Aggenbacht, het ook deelgeneem en goed gevaar. Op 28 Januarie gaan Jean en Ruben aan die nasionale kampioenskappe in Blouberg deelneem. Die wêreldkampioenskappe vind tydens Maart plaas. Ons wens hulle sterkte toe!

19 Danielle Lochner is geen onbekende as dit by netbal kom nie. Sy het in 2015 gematrikuleer waar sy Stellenberg se 1ste nebalspan vir 3 jaar verteenwoordig het. Daarna het sy haar netballoopbaan verder by Kovsies beoefen. Sy is verlede jaar gekies om SA o.20 in Botswana te verteenwoordig by die Region 5-toernooi vanaf 7-15 Desember. Sy is ook aangewys as onderkaptein van die SA o.20-span. By die toernooi het hulle teen Botswana, Namibië, Zimbabwe en Lesotho gespeel. Hulle het die reeks gewen en Goud huis toe gebring. Danielle het weer aan die proewe gaan deelneem vanaf 22 Januarie tot 24 Januarie. Sy is verkies tot die o.21 SA-span. Die span toer Julie weer na Botswana, waar hulle aan die Wêreldbekertoernooi gaan deelneem. Hulle het reeds begin oefen en het 26 Januarie teen England se seniorspan gespeel. Dit was vir haar n belewenis om teen sulke sterk spelers te speel en die ondervinding was onbeskryflik. Baie sterkte aan Danielle. Ons is voorwaar trots op jou.
