1 Newsletter 4 23 February 2018 Dear Parents and Friends A warm welcome to Max du Plessis who has joined our Junior Playgroup and to Mikayla Styger who is in Grade 4. SIMOND SUCCESS For the sixth year in a row, we won the Simond Triangular Athletics event! Congratulations to all our athletes and a special word of thanks to our head of athletics, Andrea Visser, as well as Nikki Goosen for all their hard work training our athletes in the mornings to prepare them for this event. We have come to the end of another athletics season. We would like to congratulate all the athletes who participated in the various athletic meetings. Your conduct and participation was exemplary and as a school we are very proud of each and every one of you. On Friday 16th of February we enjoyed yet another afternoon of good athletics at Simond. Again our athletes conduct was outstanding and they all participated with good sportsmanship. It was lovely to see that some of our learners came to support event though they were not participating as athletes. We won this triangular athletics meeting and we would like to congratulate Charlotte Gandiwa and Jordan April for receiving the Victor and Victrix Ludorum medals. Thank you to all the parents who ferried learners to school so early in the morning for them to attend the morning practises. We appreciate your dedication to the school.
2 EXCELLENT BEHAVIOUR The reports I have received from Simond athletics as well as from the mini cricket festival is that our children were very well behaved! This, more than winning or losing, makes me very proud! Well done to all our children who were excellent ambassadors for our school. SWIMMING GALA S Drakenstein Gala s The Foundation Phase gala scheduled for 6 March has been cancelled. We are waiting for confirmation regarding the Senior Phase gala scheduled for 1 March and will notify parents as soon as we have clarity on this. The WPS&C Inter-Schools gala against La Rochelle, Drakenstein and Simond (College) on Thursday 8 March will go ahead. A programme will be sent home on or before Monday 5 March. Inter house swimming gala Congratulations to Johnson House (the White Team) for winning the inter house gala! It was one of the closest results we have had with only 6 points separating the two teams. SPORT REPLIES Thank you for the effort that many parents have put in to utilise the new way that we are communicating sport fixtures. It is crucial that we have the correct address in order to create our database. You will be prompted to include your address when completing the form - please make use of the one that you check the most often. As sport fixtures are confirmed so reply forms are sent out - this can happen at the last minute and we would like to encourage you to check regularly and respond immediately. We have had some of our communication with Yahoo and Hotmail addresses going straight to the 'junk' folder. Should you have one of these addresses, please double check all your folders going forward. CHESS congratulations to Ameer Kadir and Anchen Smith who have both been included in the Cape Winelands chess team. Note a change in the chess times for seniors 14h00 to 14h30 for any Grade 4-7 learners and an extended session until 15h00 for selected players preparing for competitions.

5 Grade 5 Outing On Valentine s day the Grade 5 class took cupcakes to the Druiwe-trossie crèche in Wellington. Each of the Grade 5 s had to bring a few cupcake toppings to school for decoration. The children had a lot of fun as they helped the little ones to decorate a card for their parents, held piggyback-races and lots more! To the parents a big thanks for your support and help to make this outing possible. FUN FOOD FRIDAY Many thanks to the Grade 0 class rep and parents for today s Monster Fun Food Friday.
