COLLEGE NEWS No February 2019 It s a Happiness Thing Teamwork! Our senior boys and U16 girls Water Polo teams enjoyed their tour to George and Port Elizabeth last weekend. They came up against very strong opposition but the teams worked together as a team and learnt a great deal.
It s a happiness thing Minute To Win It! The mood on a Monday morning is not always that cheerful but the Grade 11 teachers made the past Monday morning a whole lot more fun by organising an Inter-homeroom Minute to Win It competition in the Grade assembly time. We are so fortunate to have teachers who embrace the fun together with the hard work.
It s a happiness thing Creating Clouds! Altocumulus, Altostratus, Stratus, Cumulus, Stratocumulus, Nimbo-stratus, Cumulonimbus, Cirrus, Cirrostratus, Cirrocumulus the Grade 10s had to think carefully about how to depict all the different cloud formations in a model form using cotton wool.
It s a happiness thing Animal Club! What better than the softness of a cute guinea pig to make you smile in the Born2Grow period on a Tuesday! Indigo Hawkins, who is a volunteer at Butterfly World and who is the Chair of the Club brings an endless supply of animals, birds and reptiles for the club members to observe, care for and interact with. Animal Club is now in its 3rd year. Activities include, overseeing and maintaining the school s fish tanks, as well as lending a hand with any animal or birds needing help at school. Because I am a volunteer at Butterfly World Animal Sanctuary, I am privileged to be able to bring some very special creatures to Animal Club, ranging from rare parrots, beautiful snakes, hedgehogs (we learn how to bath them), leopard geckos and other creatures. We aim not only to educate ourselves about animals in general but to have fun at the same time. This includes nature walks with Mr De Villiers. Indigo Hawkins (Grade 11)
It s a happiness thing Swimmathon! For the Matric girls in their last Swimmathon ever, bobbing along on their pool noodles was more of a happiness thing than a competitive thing.
You can always rely on Mrs D and the Moms to do the work! Mrs D swam 44 lengths in the allotted 30 minutes. Is anyone keen to add a donation to recognise her input? Thank you to the PA Committee and all the Mums who have worked so hard at making the Swimmathon a success. Please support their efforts when paying in your sponsorship money.
It s a Happiness Thing Fun Run at The Bridge House Mile! Whether you are swimming or not, The Mile is going to be a fabulous, family, fun day. Come and join in!

Parents, you are warmly invited to join a guided tour of the Junior Primary, Senior Primary or College. Please meet the tour guides in the Learning Commons at 10h00, 12h00, 14h00 or 16h00. The College Information session in the Theatre begins at 18h00.
Sports Update GIRLS AND BOYS WATER POLO TOUR TO GEORGE AND PORT ELIZABETH FEBRUARY Our senior boys team and U16 girls team enjoyed a wonderful tour to George and Port Elizabeth last weekend. Eastern Cape water polo is very strong our teams came up against very tough opposition. Our girls did not win any of their matches, but gained valuable experience playing against teams from Glenwood and Outeniqua in George and Alexander Road, Pearson and Collegiate in Port Elizabeth. The boys managed to win their games against a Glenwood Invitational team and Alexander Road, but lost their matches against Glenwood U18, Outeniqua, Pearson and Grey High School. It was good for our teams to play these games using the new rules and they all learned a great deal from playing six hard matches in three days. The boys and girls also had some down time in Port Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon and took the opportunity to enjoy the beach and the Boardwalk! I think Wakaberry doubled their turnover for the weekend with the Bridge House polo teams in town. A big thank you to the parents who supported the tour, the coaches Ms Lize-Marie Engelbrecht and Mr Josh Cawood, the managers Mrs D & Mr November and the drivers Mr Rheinhardt van Schoor and Mr Patrick Swarts (JDJ Davids Transport). CRICKET Bridge House U/14 vs a Paul Roos U/14 Team On 19 February, the Bridge House U/14 team won the toss and elected to bat first against a Paul Roos U/14 team. After two overs we were 2/2 and under a lot of pressure. One of the Paul Roos bowlers ended up taking 5 wickets and Bridge House were bowled out for 48 runs after only 15 overs. Connor Jackson top-scored with 10 runs. Paul Roos thought they were in for an easy win, however Joshua De Jongh made it clear in his first over that they would have to fight for every run when he clean bowled their opening batsman after three balls. With a sterling effort from Joshua De Jongh (4/10), Joey Baylet (3/5) and Rico Minen (3/6), Paul Roos were bowled out for 43 runs in the 13 th over. An amazing come back with some great fielding by Daniel Kleinhans who took a great overhead catch. Well done, boys! Cricket U19 vs Paarl Boys High School Paarl Boys High School scored 158/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Bridge House managed to score 130/8 in their 20 overs. Despite losing the game, Lloyd Phillips top scored for Bridge House managing to reach a total of 74 runs GOLF VS PAUL ROOS GYMNASIUM MONDAY 18 FEBRUARY Bridge House played their last Boland league fixture against Paul Roos Gymnasium at Pearl Valley on Monday 18 February and unfortunately lost the match. Well done to all the boys on a good term of golf and to Mr le Roux and SwingFit Golf Academy at Pearl Valley for all the support and coaching.
CYCLING Last weekend Tyler Lange (left) won the U17 category in the Pedal Power Windmeul 91km road cycling race. He completed the race in a time of 2h18min. Well done, Tyler. ATHLETICS Olivia Louw will be representing the Central Boland Athletics team at the Boland Championships at Dal Josaphat on Saturday 23 February. She will compete in the 300m Hurdles. We wish her all the best for this event. SWIMMING The U14 Bridge House swimmers competed in the Frank Myburgh Twilight gala in Malmesbury on Tuesday 19 February. Congratulations to Harrison Ansley who placed third in the U14 50m Backstroke and Thomas Doherty who placed 3 rd in the U14 50m Freestyle. Jeanne Blaisse will compete in the SA Swimming Grand Prix 2019 in Stellenbosch this weekend. We wish her all the best for this prestigious event.
