Exciting news is that building has started on the new wing in the tuckshop quad area. When completed, it will add 5 new teaching venues: a Science Lab, an IT Lab on the first level & 3 Classrooms on the second level. 14 Cricket Teams will be playing in our 2015 Pam Golding Pearson High School Cricket Festival as from Thursday, 10 September to Saturday, 12 September. The teams competing are: Pearson, Pearson s Invitational Team, Victoria Park, Westering, St Dominic s Priory, Alexander Road, Framesby, Marlow, Union High, Grey, Woodridge, Hudson Park, Daniël Pienaar & Hangklip. Matches will be played at the following ovals: Pearson, Framesby, Victoria Park, Daniël Pienaar, Westering, Alexander Road, St Dominic s and Old Grey. CONGRATULATIONS TO / GELUK AAN * our 4 finalists in the 2015 Matric of the Year competition: Claire Bodley, Emma Finestone Alisa Louw, and Lara Odendaal. Kaylin also represented the E.P. u/16 tennis team against Border as their No. 1 player. Lienke Botha also represented the E.P. u/16 tennis team against Border as their No. 2 player. Kerry Pattinson was selected as a reserve for the E.P. u/18 team against Border. * the following who participated in the SASMT Music Competition at NMMU and made it to the final round in the High School Gr. 4-6 Category: Kelly le Roux - Singing ; and Crystal Leonard - Clarinet. Beide die orkes en die jazz-orkes is genooi om tydens die prestige konsert op te tree. * Mr Manthe who was selected as the S.A. u/19 Girls Assistant Water Polo Coach for the Tri-Nations. The following were also selected as E.P. Coaches: Mr Watkins (Boys u/13a), past Pearsonite, Mr Fairall (Boys u/17a) & Mr Manthe (Girls u/19a). * the following RCS Committee members: Jason McGillivray (Media Rep); Marie Browning (Treasurer); Savannah Pretorius (Secretary); Sabrina King (Vice-President) & Nicola Verwey (President). * our 4 teams from the grade 11 and 12 IT classes who took part in the Annual Programming Olympiad at NMMU on 4 August. The teams performed really well and were all very competitive till the end. One of our grade 11 teams, PJZ, with members, Tristan Jacobs, Taryn Perry and Scy Zwennis came third overall and got the prize for the top grade 11 team. We hope to see them take part next year again.

3 * Dominic Doyle who finished second in both his heats in a National Motor Cycle Race at Red Star Raceway. He is currently lying second in the National Super Junior KTM 390 Cup and will participate in the final round of the series in Durban next month. * to the following Pearsonites invited to the S.A. u/18 Girls Water Polo Trials: Kelsey Vaughan, Ashleigh Vaughan, Miricke du Plessis, Cayli van Thiel, Erin Mukheibir, Hannah Werth, Kayleigh van Vuuren & Lara Odendaal. 10 girls were selected from E.P. with 8 of the 10 from Pearson! * Xolisa Matshoba who was selected for the u/19 Currie Cup and Temba Boltina who was selected for the u/18 E.P. 7 s Team. * the following who have qualified to participate in Round 3 of the Touch Tutor Mathematics Competition: Grade 9 Section: Tyla van Huyssteen, Kianna Petersen, Wade Tulleken, Daniëlla Saragnese & Zelschke van Zyl ; Grade 11 Section: Hanne Mertens, Heather Phillips, Justin Tulleken, Hannah Stroud, Carla de Klerk, Inge de Wet, Francois Havenga, Thandi Burgess, Ilke O Linsky, Lara van Heerden, Abby Sieberhagen, Scy Zwennis & Talita Strydom. CRICKET VS UNION HIGH SCHOOL The Pearson 1 st Cricket team got off to a great start against Union and will host their annual Pam Golding Pearson High School Cricket Festival. The match against Union High School was a declaration format match. Pearson star player Kyle Jacobs, together with Luntu Tofile batted superbly, putting on 147 for the 3 rd wicket. Tofile played well and scored 70 off 105 balls. Jacobs went on to yet another 100 for his team and scored 121 off 142 balls. His innings included 14 boundaries and 2 sixes. Jacobs was earlier joined by Daniel Doyle who accelerated the run rate, scoring 68 not out off 74 balls as we massed 303/5, before declaring. Kyle Jacobs on his way to 121 runs! The Pearson pace bowlers backed up their batters' performance and only needed 22 overs to dismiss the Union Wade van Zyl impressed, bowling 3/19 team for only 73 runs. Chris Dekker bowled well, picking up 3/25 while Wade van Zyl took 3/19. Henru van Zyl finished the game for Pearson picking up 2/10 and Pearson won convincingly by 230 runs. 2 nd Team (50 over match) Union 105/10 Raeez Harrison 2/21 Alex Draai 3/39 Pearson 109/5 - Raeez Harrison 34 Pearson won by 5 wickets!

5 PRIZE GIVING and VALEDICTORY We extend a cordial invitation to all our parents to attend our annual Prize-Giving Function and Matric Valedictory. The Prize-Giving will be on WEDNESDAY, 14 OCTOBER 2015 at 19:00 in the Deary Hall and should be over by 21:30. Please join us for refreshments afterwards in the Rendezvous. All learners in grades 9 to 12 are expected to attend this important function. The Matric Valedictory Service and the 2016 Prefect Induction will take place on THURSDAY, 15 OCTOBER 2015 AT 11:00 in the Deary Hall. Matric parents are invited to refreshments after this function. Both are formal occasions, so we ask you please to dress accordingly (tie and jacket for men). Unfortunately we cannot admit any small children at these special occasions. PLEASE INFORM THE SCHOOL WHETHER YOU WILL BE ATTENDING ONE OR BOTH OF THE FUNCTIONS BY THURSDAY, 1 OCTOBER, TO FACILITATE CATERING. 6 PRYSUITDELING en MATRIEKAFSKEIDSEREMONIE Graag wil ons u vriendelik uitnooi om ons gaste te wees by ons jaarlikse prysuitdelingsfunksie en Matriekafskeidseremonie. Die Prysuitdeling sal op WOENSDAG, 14 OKTOBER 2015 om 19:00 in die Dearysaal plaasvind en dit behoort om 21:30 te eindig. U word uitgenooi om verversings na die verrigtinge saam met ons in die Rendezvous te geniet. Daar word van alle graad 9- tot 12-leerders verwag om hierdie belangrike geleentheid by te woon. We are receiving disturbing reports that young learners - even Grade 8, 9 & 10 - (especially girls) are attending shows, functions intended for over-18s only. We appeal to parents to be aware of the risks in such cases. We trust that parents will ensure that this does not happen.
