3 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 Brief History of Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Prior 1979 Cricket in the Fairfield Liverpool area was played under the control of the Southern District Cricket Association. Any player who wished to better themselves had to participate in grade cricket. The only forms of representative cricket were the games in the Hawkesbury Cricket Council. The Hawkesbury Cricket Council was comprised of the four Country Associations, Hawkesbury, Camden, Nepean and Southern Districts. Players fortunate enough to be selected in these games had an opportunity to play before the state selectors and earn a place in the annual City verses Country games. In September 1978 the President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Junior Associations attended a meeting of the Hawkesbury Council and the New South Wales Cricket Association to discuss the possibility of dissolving the Hawkesbury Cricket Council and forming one or two grade clubs to compete in the grade competition. The proposal to form a new grade club was put to the members of the Southern District Association, who voted unanimously that a grade club be formed and compete on a limited basis in the third, fourth and fifth grade competition in 1979/1980. The Southern District Cricket Club was officially formed at a meeting held at the Cabramatta Civic Hall in May The emblem of the club was the Historic Lansdowne Bridge on the Hume Highway Lansdowne. Further Brief history associated with the Hawkesbury Cricket Council which was played under the banner of the Country Associations and the Gibson Cup. The GIBSON CUP was donated in 1948 by Mr A G Gibson, the President of the Camden District Cricket Association, for competition between the Cricket Associations forming the Hawkesbury Cricket Council (HCC). The Hawkesbury Cricket Council formed part of the NSW Country Cricket Association. The Associations involved in the HCC were:- Camden Nepean Hawkesbury Blue Mountains Southern Districts (now known as Fairfield-Liverpool) was added to the competition in Blue Mountains had ceased competing in the Zone by the late 1950 s. The first winner of the Cup was Camden. The Cup was competed for annually on a home and away basis until the HCC was disbanded in During the 30 year period of competition the Cup was won, or jointly won, by:- Camden on 8 occasions 2

4 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 Nepean on 10 occasions Hawkesbury on 9 occasions Southern Districts on 6 occasions The HCC was disbanded as a result of a re-organisation of the Country Zones and the desire to extend the Sydney Cricket Association (SCA) to include clubs from Sydney s expanding population to the western area. By the mid-1980 s all four HCC clubs had been admitted to the Sydney Grade Cricket Competition. In 1994 the Gibson Cup was located and remodelled as a project to celebrate the Hawkesbury Bi- Centennial. Competition was resurrected and points are earned when any two of the former clubs play one another in an SCA Competition. As all Clubs do not play the same number of games during the course of a season the winner is determined on a percentage basis of wins to games played. Points are earned in matches from First to Fifth Grade, the First Grade Limited-Over Competition, the Poidevin-Gray Shield and the AW Green Shield competitions. The inaugural winner of the revamped competition was Campbelltown in /1980 The first season the Southern District Cricket Club fielded three teams from third grade to fifth grade in the Sydney Cricket Association competition An Extraordinary General Meeting of the club was held on Sunday 8th September to change the name of the club to Fairfield District Cricket Club which was a condition of entry to the First Grade Competition. 1985/ The Club under its new name Fairfield District Cricket Club fielded a First Grade and Second Grade team for the first time in Sydney Grade Cricket competition. 12 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 The President s Report It gives me great pleasure to submit this report as your president, for inclusion in the 32nd Annual Report for the Fairfield Liverpool Cricket Club Incorporated. The 2010/2011 season got off to a good start with First grade and Fifth grade both in solid positions at the Xmas break. The other three grades could also make the semis with a few wins straight after the break. However First Grade fell away losing the last four matches to miss the finals with Fifth grade our only team in the finals. Second Grade who finished 10 th this season in their competition was the most improved side for the club considering how they finished 18 th the last two seasons. Captain Jeremy Cashman was outstanding in his leadership of the team which was instrumental in the change and a couple of new faces. The Fifth Grade team which was mainly players from the U/16 Green Shield side led by Steve Luc had a great season and were unlucky not to make the final. In the Major semi final they nearly pulled of the win of the season against Eastern Suburbs at Waverly oval in a rain affected match. The club continues to produce players to represent at higher honours with Doug Bollinger in the Australian Team, Ben Rohrer current NSW contracted player, Luke Doran playing his first match for NSW last season in the T20 final against South Australia and Gurinder Sandhu making the U/17 NSW team last year and taking 41 wickets for the Lions this season in First Grade. Grant Lambert and Anthony Clark both passed individual milestones this season in First Grade as all rounders in the Sydney Cricket Association First Grade competition which is the best Urban Cricket Competition in the world. Grant now has 10,012 runs and 576 wickets which on points for runs and wickets taken would place him as the 4 th best all rounder in the 1 st Grade competition so far. Anthony now has 7523 runs and 528 wickets which places him 17 th in the overall rankings of All rounders. Both players are well respected in the grade circles and both have been great players for the club and ambassadors for the game of cricket. I personally have enjoyed their careers in the game having been associated with both players from the juniors. The grade club continues to form a strong alliance with the Fairfield Junior Association, and through the support of the Lions Cricket Academy, which helps to identify the young players of tomorrow. The Fairfield Liverpool area, with its increased population growth, will help make it a strong junior base to support grade cricket in the future. Coach, Ron Harivel again was committed and continued to put in more than any other person. Not only is he the coach but a good clubman who ran and supported the fundraising nights for the club. He has a passion for the Lions and always puts in a 100%. However after 13 seasons he had decided to give the coaching away but will still be around to assist if needed. Since Ron took over as coach the club has had a golden run winning two First Grade Premierships, two Fifth Grades Premierships, a Fourth Grade Premiership and a Poidevin Gray Shield. He has certainly been competitive and will always be a Lion. I personally thank Ron for his support and commitment for the Lions. I would like to thank the Fairfield Liverpool Club s executive and management committee for their continued support and commitment in giving up their valuable time to attend meetings, and for their input and ideas in order to improve the administration and advancement of the club. 11

13 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 Rosedale Oval again was in great condition this season and finished in the top five grounds in Sydney First Grade Cricket competition. Our appreciation goes to council management and employees for their commitment to the way the ground was prepared each week. Cabramatta Oval s new wicket settled down after it was newly laid the previous season, and with Fairfield Oval now replaced also, the future at these ground can only improve. We now need to work with Fairfield Council to improve the amenities at both these grounds so that all players can benefit from good grounds. Every year the club needs to thank and acknowledge the support of our major sponsor, Cabramatta Leagues Club, as their commitment of ongoing sponsorship contributes to our ongoing operational costs and assists with reduction of player fees. This is Janice Yearsley last year as Treasurer for the mighty Lions. I personally would like to thank Janice for the support and assistance she has given the Lions committee over the last the last eleven seasons. Our scorers, parents and supporters all made a major effort in ensuring that our teams had the best off-field support which assists in good playing performance. We are particularly indebted to our scorers, Kay Wilcoxon, Sandra Bridges, Warren Rues and Graham Rogers. I would also like to thank Kay for preparation of the annual report and in working towards the updating of the records of the club. I would like to sign off in the usual manner in saying thank you to all the captains, coaches, players, parents and supporters. I look forward to catching up with you all again next season. The continued good work of the 2010/2011 season will certainly continue to lay the foundations for the future of cricket in the Fairfield Liverpool area. Richard Cook President 12

16 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 Scorers Our team of scorers Kay Wilcoxon, Sandra Bridges, Mark Clinghan, Janice Yearsley, Warren Rues and Graham Rogers. To run this Club we need the support and assistance from a number of people and organisations. The Committee would like to thank the following people for their assistance. Cricket NSW Ian Field - Cricket NSW Operations Manager and Secretary of the Sydney Cricket Association. Roy Formica - Cricket NSW Darryl Hair - Executive Officer of the NSW Cricket Umpires & Scorers Association and its members. Local Papers Thanks to the efforts of Mark Clinghan who took on the roll of publicity officer we enjoyed the support of both Fairfax & Cumberland publications during the season (Liverpool Leader, Liverpool Champion, and Fairfield Advance & Fairfield Champion). Local journalists Paul Haigh (Fairfax) & Torin Chen (Cumberland) arranged for photographers to go to the grounds for pictures to support the stories mostly based around the brief summaries supplied by Mark Clinghan every Sunday night. Grounds From the marks for the grounds there was a big improvement for both the mark and the position for Rosedale and Cabramatta. Rosedale maintained its postion 5 th which was the same as the previous season. The commitment from the Council management and the ground staff was great. Cabramatta dropped from 18th to 22nd and if the ground was marked at the tea interval breaks it could be a lot higher. The second season with the new wicket at Cabramatta all looks good for Fairfield Oval with the new wicket from last season was the big improver from 41st to 21st. All these improvements can only benefit the players and the clubs improvement through the grades. The following tables are the ground results for the 2010/2011 season. Annual Report 2010/2011 The club would like to thank Liverpool City Council, especially Sandra Kubecka Parks Manager, and Michelle Treloar Sports Development Officer for their support. Parks Supervisor Gary Hanlon continues to be a tower of strength, and was very helpful along with Peter Mead and Scott Barker, in forming a good relationship with the management committee members. The ground rating and outlook makes it one of the best in the competition and visiting teams are impressed with the wicket and outfield and the overall setting. To Ivan Elik and Around the Grounds we express our gratitude for your time in preparing Fairfield Oval. The wicket at Cabramatta has improved each year and we thank Fairfield Council for the maintence of the wicket which is outsourced. To Linda Howlett from Fairfield Council, and Michelle Treloar from Liverpool Council who are our contacts at the respective Councils, we thank you for your assistance during the season. Spirit of Cricket The Club finished in 14th position in the overall Spirit of Cricket award for the past season with an average of with the mark now out of 10 points. While this was an improvement on last season we still have a fair way to go considering the number of players reported this season. The Poidevin-Gray side was the best team finishing first in the Spirit of Cricket.Second Grade also was a big improver from the previous season with 4th Grade also in the top 5 along with the Green Shield side. We can with a little more commitment lift the clubs ranking overall by improving our attitude on the field to play the game in the right spirit. 19 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 Treasurers Report As this is my last year as Treasurer for the mighty Lions, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for all the support and assistance I have received over the last eleven seasons in this position from committee, players & parents. It is very rewarding to look back and review all that has been accomplished in the club since 1995 when my son played his 1 st season with Fairfield Liverpool in Green Shield. There is still much to be done, and I trust there will be new members with fresh ideas and enthusiasm to build Fairfield Liverpool into an even greater club. To the players, it has been a pleasure to watch you grow, in most cases from Green Shield to current, where now, often Rosedale is like a crèche, with partners and offspring enjoying the cricket at arguably one of the best grounds in the competition (I might be a little biased). Your friendship, support and camaraderie over the years have been unrelenting, and I am very proud to have shared the family spirit and be accepted as part of the Lions. To committee members, past and present, and all parents, sons, daughters, friends who have assisted with canteen, teas, functions and fundraising over the years, I am happy to have met you and shared our cricket experiences, but most grateful for your friendship. I have not mentioned names as I am afraid I will miss someone, but you all know who you are. I look forward to catching up at future functions and I am sure a cricket match will still be a week end option. I wish the club an extremely bright future. The club s financial statements for 2010/2011 are submitted for your consideration in the following reports. Regards, Janice Yearsley Treasurer 18

Cancelled cheques should be stapled wherever possible to the cheque butt with any signatures torn off and destroyed. Canteen- - I recommend the keeping of separate books of account for the canteen. Periodically, profits from the canteen can be transferred to the main operating bank account. Capital Equipment - I recommend a separate list of equipment be submitted for audit. 19

21 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 General - I recommend that at each official meeting the president or his/her nominated representative should sign the bank reconciliation as prepared by the treasurer as verification of the current bank balance. - Sponsorship from Cabramatta Leagues Club for the 10/11 season amounted to $16,500. This was used to assist in the acquisition of clothing. QUALIFICATIONS It was not practicable to establish control over receipts until their entry into the accounting records. My audit was therefore restricted to the amounts recorded. The amount owing to Cricket NSW of $11, (including interest) as the balance payable for the upgrade of Rosedale Oval was paid in full during the current financial period. AUDIT OPINION Subject to the above qualifications, in my opinion the financial report presents fairly the financial position of the Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. as at 30th April 2011 and the results of its operations for the 12 months then ended in accordance with Statement of Accounting Concepts and applicable Accounting Standards. 31 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 First Grade Report Over all I would say a large improvement on the playing field from the previous season. A quarter final position in the T20 competition and a semi-final position in the one day competition and looking great in the overall competition until the disappointing finish to the season, losing our last 3 rounds and finishing just outside the six. We looked stronger on the park with the acquisition of a young fast bowler Gurinder Sandhu from the Blacktown club who took most wickets for us and the fact that Grant Lambert was available for every game. We continue to produce players for the representative teams Doug Bollinger playing in both the test & one-day cricket for Australia, Ben Rohrer playing in all forms for NSW in a stellar season for him, Luke Doran played Futures League, Second X1 and T20 for NSW, Gurinder Sandhu had an unbelievable first full season in 1 st Grade and made the U19, Futures League and T20 for NSW, And finally Jeremy Maher debuting in 1 st Grade and qualifying for the U17 s a year early. I would like to thank all the players for their efforts on the field during the season and the continued tightness of the playing group although I think with a more dedicated effort off the field may have been the difference in finishing inside 6 or out. I would like to thank Debbie and Doug for their efforts as well as Kay for scoring and also Jill for the times she stood in. I think also Phil and Roger offer great help and from me and the players these efforts certainly do not go unnoticed. To Ron, who resigned his post as Club coach, thanks for your efforts over the years and hopefully you stay involved with the club and maybe even a strong position on our committee. Finally here is looking forward to an even better 2011/2012 but if this is to happen a stronger culture to training and secondly the input of more social functions and/or gatherings to build up the togetherness of a good group of people and a stronger club in the end. Grant Lambert: Strong season first year out of the squad for NSW, the body does not have the overs they used to but the effort has not gone away. Still scored more runs that the rest of us and will be an unfillable hole when the curtain comes down. A model to our club and to the SCA. Mark Liddell: Great to have Mark back this year and before Christmas was hitting them better than ever, winning us a couple of games single handed. Season fell away after Christmas as did the teams but always plays an up tempo game that is good to watch. Ben Rohrer: Did not play too much for us this year and can t imagine this will change too much in the future as he should be looking to change for higher honours again. Big congratulations on being named in the T20 team of the season by the ACA, voted by the players. Mitch Williams: Missed the start of the season but when back batted nicely including a hundred against Northern District. Important member in the side who would have been disappointed with how his season finished off and I expect big things for Mitch next season. 30

32 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 Robbie Hearn: Good team man, good trainer, did not make the most of his opportunities but is a player that has plenty to give in the future and won us the quarter final with his aggressive mindset. Expect big things from his ability and I think with some better processes with his batting this is achievable. Russell Wilcoxon: Russ again took his spot behind the pegs and went good early in the season. Was up and down with the gloves back end of the season but his batting was always steady just needing some other lower order players to put that same price on their wicket that Russ did. Great club man, great bloke, a pleasure to play with. Luke Doran: Had his best season ever this year bowling very well throughout the year. Exceptional shorter form bowler who probably needs to bring slip into play a bit more in the two dayers but I m sure this will come in time. Luke s batting was steady but needs to formulate a back foot game against quicks to make himself the all-rounder he wants to be. Gurinder Sandhu: Came over from Blacktown the week before the season began and showed he has a serious skill level. Led the team in wickets and thoroughly deserved his position in all the rep teams he was in and with hard work and an eye for detail he has a huge future in the game. Phil Hangyasi: Great comeback season from the Moose, bowling 1 st change. Bowled with good effort and energy, taking vital wickets including 2 x 5wicket hauls and many a big name scalp. Great team man who always gives his all and an important cog in our bowling attack. Matthew Harivel: Jock had a tough season that started off so promising with a great 90 against Wests early in the season. Things went downhill with the bat from there but he never let that get in the way of his effort on the field. Not sure if he will be about next season but I hope he is as he is an important member of our group. Jeremy Maher: U16 and playing 1 st grade got some wickets and bowled good line and length has some serious ability but the hard work and toughness that is required at the highest level will need to be called upon to get the job done in the future. Great effort to be picked in the U17 s as a 16 year old player. Also played Dean Attard: Only played the last game of the year but made his appearance after scoring a lot of runs in 2 nd grade and has put himself in the frame going forward. 37 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 Second Grade Report Congratulations to North Sydney C.C on winning this season s 2 nd Grade Premiership. First of all, I would like to thank our committee, volunteers and sponsors for all of their assistance & support throughout the past season. It goes without saying that there is a significant amount of time and effort put in by each of you to ensure that the FLCC can field competitive sides across the grades and there is no doubt that our club would not run as smoothly without your contributions each year. In particular, I would like to thank Sandra Bridges for scoring each week, the Williams family for all of their work running one of the best canteens in grade cricket and to Ron Harivel for all of the coaching and advice that you ve given to both myself and the 2 nd grade squad. Your replacement has big shoes to fill next season. To the cricket, we won 7 games this year and narrowly missed out on the Semi-Finals by less than 1 win. I m personally really happy with this result as it represents a real improvement on previous campaigns and I strongly believe that each player who represented 2 nd Grade throughout the 2010/11 season can be proud of not only the results achieved but of the way that we continued to improve and compete throughout the year. Through attitude and commitment this squad managed to win some critical moments that helped us to win a number of games that could have gone either way. Aside from the stronger on field performances, one of the most pleasing aspects of the season was watching our younger players develop their skills and confidence in the higher grades and I look forward to seeing these guys develop into regular first graders in years to come. In addition, it was also great to welcome some new players to the club and to 2 nd grade this season; each of them contributing heavily to at least a couple of wins each this year. Moving forward, I think it s important that we look to improve in a number of areas; most notably our consistency across the season and our commitment to training. There is plenty of talent in and around this squad and we have certainly experienced some good patches during the past season but the difference between us and some of the teams that played the final series was their consistency against all opposition and the regularity of their preparation. I am confident that if we can improve in those areas for next year that there is no reason why this squad can t make the knock out stages. Here is a brief rundown of the regulars: Dean Attard: Showed once again that he has the ability to play a lot of 1 st Grade in years to come. By his standards he started the year slowly but finished with a string of strong performances that set up a number of important wins for us. Also captained the side at various times throughout the season and always sets a great example for the younger guys to follow. Picked up some important wickets along the way bending them both ways. Greg Birt: Birty returned to the club this year after several seasons playing in the Shires competition. He had an outstanding year for us scoring batting at 7 and keeping wicket. Has the ability to score at more than a run a ball late in the innings and was a great addition to the team this year. We all look forward to seeing you back next year. Shaun Bridges: Bridgy completed his first full year in 2 nd Grade this year and like Birty performed strongly with the bat scoring while picking up 9 wickets with his Off 36

38 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 Spin. While Shaun had a good first season in this grade, I d love to see him work on converting his starts into big scores next year as this will lead to opportunities in the top grade. Shamus Coe: Was one of the go to men with the ball this year, bowled a lot of important overs and was instrumental in the side s ability to slow the run rate and build pressure. Shamo had an inconsistent year with the bat by his standards but we did start to see the Shamo of old during the second half of the season. His experience this year was really helpful to the younger guys in our squad. Hussain Hanif: Huss started the year slowly and struggled a bit for confidence in his early games. He possesses good pace and works hard on the training paddock and I was really happy to see him settle into his work midway through the season and get some good results for all of the effort that he puts in. I think we will see some really good things from Huss next year. Jeremy Maher: This was Jeremy s first full year in the higher grades (probably because he s only 16) and he finished the year a completely different player to the one that started. The stint in 1 st grade playing alongside the Clark s & Lamberts etc did his confidence the world of good; this was evident during a number of match changing spells upon his return to 2 nd grade. Congratulations also for playing in the NSW U/17 during the year. Tayler Mobbs: Vinny spent the first part of the year in 3 s and got his opportunity on the back of some consistent performances in both 3 rd Grade & PG s. Bowled some really tight spells at first/second change and like Shamo was instrumental in the games where we were able to control the run rate and build pressure. Unfortunately, he didn t get a lot of opportunity with the bat but has the ability to be a real handy all rounder in years to come. Nathan Smith: Smithy was the pick of the bowlers this year and almost always provided us with the early wickets needed when the ball s still new. He finished the year with and I for one hope we see him back up with another strong season next year. Nathan Sullivan: Sully has played 2 nd grade for the last couple of years and I ve always felt that for some reason he didn t get the wickets that he sometimes deserved; often bowling tight spells while the wickets came at the other end. After starting the year in 3 rd grade it was nice to see him quickly re enter the side and have probably his best year in 2 nd grade taking with our only 5 wicket performance. Mitchell Tremain: Egg had to wait a while for his chance this season but he was quick to cement his spot with a match winning 80 not out against East s at Rosedale. Great team man and constantly tries to involve himself in the game whether it be with the bat or in the field. I think most in the club would be really happy that Egg got his opportunity this year. 41 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 Third Grade Report The season for 3 rd grade was very up and down and probably one that could have gone either way. There were some great wins to the team throughout the season, but unfortunately we couldn t capitalise on the great positions we were in some games to get a win and move up the ladder. We started with a strong side but due to injury, work commitments and players moving up and down the grades we struggled to field the same team 2 games in a row. All that said the players we had throughout the year played with plenty of heart and represented the club well. Gavin Connor: Gav new to our club came into our side after about 5 or 6 rounds and was a welcomed player within 3 s. Gav is a great bowler who bowls very tight and tidy spells and seemed very tough to get away and an asset in the field. Towards the back end of the season when we were short opening batters Gav put his hand up and did the job with easy, getting starts for the team most games. Great season Gav. Brad Clark: Pup is a young player who has a lot of talent in all aspects of the game. Pup batted 4 for us throughout the season and like many seemed to make a start and then couldn t go on with it. Brad s finest inning s was against Gordon when everyone seemed to be falling around him; he stood solid getting us over the line with one wicket in hand. Brad is an asset in the field with chat and ability and has a big future with the club. Jeremy Smith: Boof is a player with plenty of potential. He opened the batting for us and did the job well. When Boof plays in the V he is quality however needs to put his head down and turn the 30 s and 40 s into 50 s and 100 s as he has the ability to do so. Bowled first change for us also and at times took their batting attack down. Well-done Dad. Matt Williams: Matt Williams at the start of the year looked unstoppable. Not long into the season Matty got put into 2 s and unfortunately was injured which saw him out of action for half the season. When Matt did play however you knew it. Matt is a genuine all-rounder who contributes in all aspects of the game. Matt was a massive help toward the end of the season, helping me with the captaincy side of things. A smart and skilful cricketer and is up for a massive season next year with the Lions. Nathan Jattan: Jats also at the start of the season looked unstoppable. Started the season strong getting wickets in each game. Unfortunately against Sydney Uni did his ankle, which saw him out for 4-5 rounds. Came back to finish the season in the last 4 rounds. Jats bowls quality spells when given a chance and was the pick of our spinners throughout the year. Jats also hits a very hard ball and scored some handy runs batting 8 for us throughout the season. He is a very handy fielder in at gully taking plenty of great catches. Good job DBD. Tim Reus: Timmy I would have in my team year in year out. His ability to bowl outside off ball after ball after ball is what every team needs. Timmy s main strength is his consistency and the opposition always struggle to take him down. Tim can also bat anywhere you need him and never complains just says if that s where you want me then that s where I ll bat. A great team man and a great bloke. Also a big thank you to Timmy s dad. Wazza scored some games for us. Roooooooossssssssyyyyyyyyy. Brett Lack: What can you say about Lacky that hasn t already been said. Lacky is the ultimate team man. Whether it be in the sheds before the game, or out in the field Lacky will always find a way to fire the boys up. Lacky hits a very hard and clean ball and does not throw his wickets away 40

42 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 without a battle. Lacky bowled a few overs also and burgled a few wickets each time. Lacky plays hard and is a tough competitor and has been a plus to have in our club for so long. Jacob Astill: Jakey had a tough year going up and down between 3 s and 4 s all season. When Jake did play for us he slotted straight in and looked like he d been playing in our team all year. Jake is a great competitor who bowls good areas and is a solid lower order batsman. Always tough moving up and down but certainly didn t complain about it. Great season mate and all the best for 2011/12. Jake s dad Brad also scored for us throughout the year. Cheers big Brad. Mitchell Lloyd: Lloydy unfortunately couldn t play the full season for the club due to work commitments. Lloydy played some 2 s and 3 s throughout the year and captained 3 s in a few of the games. Definitely his standout performances were against Mosman with his 150 and Parra on the stinking hot day with his 4 fa. Well-done mate. Jake McCann: Jack Mack was our keeper throughout the season and what I believe is one of the toughest jobs in the game. Jack Mack is always vocal in the field and talks the boys around until the end of play. Batted wherever we needed him within the top 5. Slotted in wherever he was put and did a job for us. A fierce competitor and one who plays to win. Another good season Jack Mack and all the best over in the UK. Brendan Gregory: Junk was new to the club and started the season off with a bang. Starting in 4 s smashing 52 in his first knock. He then was put into 3 s and did the same thing. Junk hits a very hard ball but has to pick the right one to put away. Throughout the season the 20 s and 30 s could of easily been 50 s and beyond. A player with a large amount of talent and a big season I m sure ahead of him. Well-done JYD. Jehangir Ali: Ali unfortunately hasn t finished the last 2 seasons due to injury. However when Ali is fit he can do a lot of damage to the opposition. Charges in and hits the deck hard, which all fast bowlers should do. Bowled a lot of good spells for 3 s throughout the year none other than the 2 round vs Randy Pete s when Ali took 5 for 7 off 8. Well-bowled Ali. We had some players fill in throughout the year some playing as a result injury, while others being moved up and down the grades, they were, Mathew Starr, Dean Hayes, Ben Hughes, James Hughes, Jimmy Terrett, Riley Astill, David Mason, and Lego Connor. Each player played with a lot of heart and did the club proud. Cheers for filling in boys. See you all next season boys. Brent Adams Captain 41

46 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 Fourth Grade Report Congratulations to Sydney on winning this season s 4th Grade premiership. Congratulations also to Scully, TK and all the 5th Grade boys for reaching the semi final. A great effort for such a young team & a good solid springboard for all the younger players as they gained some valuable experience in grade cricket. A heartbreaking loss to East s in the semi needing only 8 runs, but a great job nevertheless. Clarky & our 1st Grade side, well done on yet another strong season. As always, you guys are the leaders of our club & your efforts throughout this season should inspire us all to greater levels of commitment & performance. Cashy & Egg, well done in your first year of captaining this season. Thanks for your support. You both led from the front & your own performances were strong as you contributed week in week out. Congratulations to Doug Bollinger & Ben Rohrer for continuing to excel at rep level. Their selection & performances alone should inspire younger players in our ranks to strive for similar honours. Luke Doran has already taken the next step & looks to be the next Lion to be picked for the "Blues". Whilst a Club Championship continues to elude us, there are some signs we may not be far off. 2nd Grade won more games this season than we have in a long while & 3rd Grade at one point looked to push for a finals spot. Sadly though, this year's 4th Grade competition can be looked back on as one of missed opportunities. In terms of competition points, it was very open & the tightness of the ladder gave most clubs a real chance of making the top 6. In what can only be described as a very disappointing season, we failed to produce the standard of cricket required & ended up falling a long way short of expectations. We finished with 4 wins, 9 losses, 1 draw & 1 washout to finish in 16th position. A total of 33 players played 4's this season which made it difficult to find the right combinations or to work on our cohesion as a playing group. This being said, this was not the overriding factor & was not the reason for our position on the table. Statistically we were poor with only Daniel Marshall scoring above 200 runs. Whilst we tried hard in every match, our batting was often vulnerable & simply not good enough. Soft dismissals, poor execution & lack of concentration played a part in most of our innings, which made it virtually impossible to sustain any real pressure on our opposition. Our bowling was a lot better & up until round 10, we had the best quotient of wickets versus runs conceded. Jake Astill & Simon Grove were our best & they were well supported by Matt Starr, Adam Leslie & Andrew Bennie. For us as a playing group to improve for next season, a frank & honest self-assessment will need to be undertaken. We need to identify strengths & weaknesses in our game & work hard on 45

47 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 improving the latter. With that said, team moral & unity remained high & I'm sure we have a core group of young players that will be all the better for this season come next September. The highlight of our season saw strong wins against ND's & Eastern Suburbs. It was these matches where we showed glimpses of what the team could achieve. Our other two wins against Blacktown & Hawkesbury were sound victories. We also saw the debuts of some of our Green Shield players late in the season, with the younger guys all performing well when given the opportunity. Thanks to Harmon Sandhu, Justin Bertovic, Sam Fensom, Todd Byrnes & Liam Hatcher for making themselves available over the last three rounds & I hope the experience was beneficial & something you can build on over the coming seasons. As with every season, it takes a lot of help to get our teams on the paddock every week. I would like to sincerely thank our major sponsor, Cabramatta Leagues Club & our associate sponsors for your support of our club in 2010/2011. We could not compete in the SCA if it wasn't for your generous support. Richard Cook, Mark Clinghan & our Management Committee, thank you for your on-going support & hard work this season. It takes a lot of time & effort to run a club like ours & we are fortunate to have such dedicated people behind the scenes. Jason Deitz, our Chairman of Selectors thank you for all your time & help. It's never an easy job & I thank you personally for all the support you have shown me this season. Thank you also to all the parents who helped out at different stages of the season with scoring & afternoon teas. It was certainly appreciated by all our players. Finally, to Ron Harivel. It's with a heavy heart that we have learned that you are not going to be at the club next season. On behalf of all the players that you have helped over the years, both young & old, a massive thank you for all the time & effort you have put in for the Lions. Your work ethic & level of commitment to our club can never be questioned & we will be all the poorer for your absence next season. On a personal note, I can't thank you enough for all your support & wish you all the success in whatever you decide to do next. Best of luck mate! Here s a rundown on some of our regular players Andrew Bennie: Andrew had a stop & start season through injury but always did a great job when we got him on the field. He often put pressure on the opposition's top order batsman by bowling at the stumps & proved tough to handle on most decks with his ability to swing the new ball. A good team man who always tries hard week in, week out. If Andrew can stay injury free, I'm sure next season will see him back to his best. Lachlan Bruhm: Lachlan came to 4's midway through the season & whilst we only saw glimpses of what he is capable of with the bat, he showed enough to suggest that he can turn into a really good all rounder. He has a sound technique but needs to work harder at converting his starts. His 46

48 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 left arm orthodox is steady, but more work is needed in the areas of control & discipline. A good thinker & a pleasure to have in the team. Ben Ferguson: As with most of the bats in our side, Ben struggled to find consistency at the top of our order & will need to work hard in the off-season. Can straight drive with the best of them, but has to find other ways to score & rotate the strike. Ben has good concentration & has the ability to bat through an innings. Will need to work harder on his mobility in the field & I would like to see more interaction from him with the rest of the playing group next season. Simon Grove: In his first full season of grade cricket, Simon proved a quality bowler & was one of our best. His ability to bowl long spells whilst maintaining good line & length was vital & allowed us to tie up one end. The pressure he built often created chances & we were a much better side with him in the team. Has ability with the bat, just needs to occupy the crease for longer periods. Looking forward to seeing Simon progress over the coming seasons. Ben Hughes: Ben would be the first to agree that his performances this season were below par & not what was expected of a player with his ability & talent. He is one of the club's brightest young prospects, but poor shot selection & difficulty maintaining concentration often meant we were without our best player when we needed him most. Ben is a quality all rounder, capable of winning matches with the bat & ball. With some fine-tuning & hard work in the pre-season, I'm sure we'll see a much-improved player in 2011/2012. James Hughes: James had a difficult time with the bat, despite his hard work in the off-season. He never quite got into an innings & fell short of his own expectations. With that said, his work behind the stumps was always of a high standard & his effort & commitment to the team can never be questioned. An unselfish player who is always willing to do what is ever best for the team, I look forward to seeing him bounce back next season. Daniel Marshall: Marshy was our highest run scorer & once again proved to be a quality player in our middle order. He was often left to pick up the pieces & hold our innings together & did a great job behind the sticks when called upon. His experience & leadership was a benefit to all in the team & I personally appreciated having him as one of the more senior players in the group. His energy & humour in the shed was great. As always, it was a pleasure to play alongside him. Matthew Starr: Matt started the season a little slow, but was one of our best by season end. Has improved a lot as a bowler & should continue to impress as he gets taller & stronger in coming years. Toward the second half of the season, he found a consistent line & length, which kept him in the wickets & it was good to see him find some maturity with the bat as well. Spent some important time at the crease & I hope he continues to develop into a player that can push for higher selection. Gareth Steptoe: Zammo came back to the club early in the season & we immediately looked a better side with his inclusion. He stabilised the middle order & gave us some much needed batting depth & experience. Work commitments meant we were without him for the last 3 matches & our batting looked weak in his absence. A good team man who everyone enjoys playing with. Looking forward to seeing Gareth return for a full season in 2011/2012. Michael Wilson: Willo was picked as a bat in 4's this season whilst still recovering from a serious foot injury. He had some good contributions & showed how valuable a player he can be when he's able to resume full training & push for a spot back in higher grades. Mike was one of standouts in 47

49 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 the field with his athleticism & always placed pressure on opposition batsmen running between wickets. Always keen to contribute, it was a pleasure to play alongside Mike as always. Thanks to all the players that walked through the gate in 4's this season. There are too many to name, but I thank you all for your effort & support. See you all next season!!!!! 52 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 Fifth Grade Report When I first told people I was going to captain 5 th grade a lot of people told me I was crazy. It was the best decision I have made. From the very first game to the last game where the boys played East s in the Semi I saw these young lads turn into men. They played with passion, pride and their determination to fight to the end was so pleasing that even the opposition commented on their attitude and maturity as cricketers. Thank you to all the parents that helped throughout the year with arvo teas, covers and bringing their sons to training. 5 th grade always had high attendance at training and this reflected on where they finished. Some fine performances throughout the year, everybody at some time did their bit to ensure victory. Jake Doran s big 188, Daniel Manning s hat trick and Karwin s 5 fors. The partnership between John Starkey and Jake Doran in the semi will be talked about forever. Thank you to the parents once again for all your support you have given me throughout the tough times towards the season s end. TK thanks for all your help in leading the boys in my absence. A final thanks to all the players who played 5 th grade I hope all the things that you all learnt during the season will go with you when you advance up the grades. Jacob Grant: A great kid who always listened and did what he was instructed. Jake opened the batting and always looked solid. He will only get better next year and is ready for the next step up. Jake was one of my best fielders and never missed training. Keep the head up and keep the same attitude you have towards your game this will only benefit you in your rise to the top. Mitchell Luc: Mitch opened the whole season and like Jake always looked solid.he will only get better next year and hopefully will be a lot stronger. His determination and concentration is a massive bonus for someone who is just 15. Mitch also was one of the best fielders always chased hard to the fence. Like Jake there are better things to come and the experience he had this year will only aid his performances next year. Terry Kennedy: This was not one of TK s best years by his standards but his presence is enough to have in any team. Played every game as if it was his last, as you would expect from TK. Bowled super every game even taking a 5 for. Did a great job as captain in my absence. Thanks once again all the best to you and Bryony with the impending birth of your child. Jake Doran: A star of the future Jake matured by the season s end. He started to know his game by Christmas and by the end of the season there was no stopping him. A sweet timer of the ball this was shown in his score of 188, Jake the sky s the limit for you. Jakes glove-work improved as the season progressed. He was our leading run-scorer at the young age of 14 scoring 596 runs. Keep your head and focus, never get too far ahead of yourself. I will love watching you rise to the top. Just don t forget me when you re taking on the Poms at the SCG. John Starkey: John had a super season with the bat; he has all the shots in the book. John has the making of a quality high-grade player. Only you can decide your destiny. With the right attitude and attendance at training I m sure you will play higher grades in the future. 51

53 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 Wayne Bull: Wayne began to learn his game as an all rounder. As each game come around his confidence grew and grew. His batting was very good in the middle order and his bowling got better and better with each over. Wayne spun the ball a long way and learned to adjust his pace and line depending on what form of the game he played.he has served his apprenticeship and will be a force next year in the higher grades. I will look forward to seeing him progress and pass on his experience to younger players. Jordan Newell: Jordan had limited opportunities with the bat but never let his side down. Jordan took some great catches throughout the year and has a great character he often made people laugh throughout the day and in the sheds afterwards. Karwin Rogers: Could not have asked anymore of him. Always took early wickets and when given the ball later cleaned up the tail. Bowled with good pace and swung the ball both ways. A great player to have in your side. Karwin was our leading wicket taker and he deserved it. Had some great knocks with the bat and won a few games with the willow for the boys. Karwin was a class above bowling at this level and should play 3 rd grade. Well-done Mate. Daniel Manning: Daniel is one of the best leg spinners I have seen for such a long time. He bowls with passion, has a super wrong un and is a wicket taker. Daniel will go up the grades very quickly. Daniel never missed a training session and this showed on the field when he bowled. Who could forget that hat trick? Daniel always bowled to instructions and always listened to his captain. Well done on a great season. Adam Leslie: Adam bowled with pace and determination. Adam was very unlucky with drop catches and poor decisions. His numbers did not reflect on how well he bowled. He has a great attitude towards the game. Adam will also play higher grades next year and hopefully has more luck than he had this year. Also played 5 th grade Simon Grove, Harmon Sandhu, Bradley Deitz, Gavin Conner, Mitchell Lloyd, Jake McCann Michael Wilson, David Mason, Mathew Starr, Ben Ferguson, Rajprasanth Varatharajah Steve Luc Captain Match Statistics Position on Table: 4th Matches Played: 17 Won: 11 Lost: 4 Drawn: 0 Tied: 0 Washouts: 2 Runs Scored For: 2887 Wickets Lost: 126 Runs Scored Against: 2541 Wickets Taken:

56 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 Poidevin-Gray Shield Report Congratulations to Sydney University. on winning this season s PG s premiership. It was my first year as coach of the PG S side this year and what I wanted to do was to bring back passion and for the boys to take the games serious as these games are a good stepping stone for higher honours. With the help of Dean Attard and the captain Luke Doran this was demonstrated with the attitude the players brought to match day. Unfortunately bad weather and injury played a major part in where the boys finished. The most important thing is that these boys showed great commitment and respect to me and the captain. I m sure the years ahead will be successful as there are some great young cricketers amongst these boys. Special thanks to Nick McCann for scoring and helping out when he could. Also to Jake who took over captain while Luke had Rep duty. A big thank you to Luke our captain who did a great job, not only as captain but a mentor to these younger players. Shaun Bridges also needs to be mentioned for his job socially keeping the boys on their toes organizing fines and for the day out which he organized. Last but not least to every player who played thank you for your commitment you all showed getting to the game on time warm ups and on the playing field. Here is a brief rundown of the players who played this year. Luke Doran: Luke captained the side this year and did a fantastic job in organizing his troops on the park. Led from the front was our leading run scorer averaging 50 leading wicket taker also. A great man to have at the club and I m certain will be a future leader in years to come. Tayler Mobbs: Mobbys always gave it his heart and soul I have never seen him on any other occasion do otherwise. A great knock against Blacktown scoring 60. A super fieldsman and a young man who always brought great qualities, humour and passion to the team. Brendon Gregory: Brendon is one of the cleanest hitters I have ever seen but didn t quite get going. A great fieldsman also was unlucky at times. Gurinder Sandhu: Whispering Death bowled some fast spells and I m sure he is going to become one of the clubs finest fast bowlers. More than a handy batsmen looks like becoming a bowling all rounder. Super guy who loves playing. Lachlan Bruhm: Lachlan showed some goods signs and got more confident each game he played. A great young player who I m sure will play many more seasons and improve with every one of them. Shaun Bridges: Shaun is another player who hits a clean ball. Bowls well and is a great competitor on the field. Shaun also is a great fielder and will dearly be missed next year. Jake McCann: Jake is a great competitor who has a great knowledge of the game. Took over the captaincy in Luke s absence. Had his fair share of bad luck. Jeremy Maher: Jeremy had limited opportunities as he had 17 s duties and played with a foot injury. On his day can bowl some very fast spells. I think next year Jeremy will play a major role in the success this team has. Ben Hughes: Ben is a young player with enormous talent who also played Green Shield this year. I can see him being more successful next year and in the years to come. Ben also had limited opportunities due to the nature of the game. Bradley Clark: Like Ben had limited chances due to 20/20 cricket. Very good top order batsmen who will only benefit from the experience. Bradley is more suited to the longer version of the game and has plenty years of PG s ahead. 55

59 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 AW Green Shield Report The weather and injuries played havoc in our preparation for this year s Green Shield campaign. Our trial game against Sutherland and many training sessions were cancelled. We were fortunate to finally arrange a trial against a composite club side and thanks to the boys who played and for providing stiff opposition at short notice. Things didn t improve when we lost Liam Hatcher for the whole season due to injury. None the less our program looked in good shape when we had an impressive home win against Manly in round 1; however losses in rounds 2 and 3 to Sutherland and Blacktown saw us go into the Christmas break needing to win our remaining 4 games. Round 4 against the strong Bankstown side was a must win and despite a solid showing we went down which virtually ended the hopes of making the finals. To their great credit, the boys rallied together after this loss and were victorious in the remaining 3 rounds against Campbelltown- Camden, Sydney and University of NSW. This enabled us to finish a credible 7 th in the competition just one win outside the finals. It was good to observe that each player contributed at some stage during the season. Everyone got on well and the boys gained from Anthony Clark s training and experience. Some players will definitely be pressing for higher honours in the coming seasons. Best wishes to the boys for an enjoyable cricket career. Many thanks to all the parents. The afternoon teas were of a high standard impressing all opposition teams. Thanks to the Dads who helped with the score book. A special thanks to Julie and Leanne who ran the canteen. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they were a great help. Thanks to Will for looking after the scoreboard at Rosedale, to Jack and Steve for their help with the covers and to Graham Rogers for updating the scores on the web. Finally the team was very grateful to Nathan Sullivan for providing them with their Triforce helmets. A brief rundown of this year s squad Mitch Luc: Leading run scorer when batted long time and put massive price on his wicket. Possesses great work ethic and energy to burn on the field. Mitch will go far with his mental strength and willingness to learn. Jacob Grant: In many ways has all the same qualities as young Mitchell with their opening partnerships being a strong point for the side during the season. Jacob loves to bat, works hard and will get everything he can out of his ability. Vital member of the side and our club in the future. Ben Hughes: Hughesy captained the side very well and has very good leadership qualities. A talented batsman that under-achieved up until the last game where he made a beautiful 50. Took vital wickets with the ball and with some tightening up of his stroke play early in his innings, could find his way in higher grades sooner rather than later. Jacob Doran: Talented player who always looks the goods. Will only have improved by the experience and this showed with his excellent grade form later in the season. Kept wicket with great style and bowled overs as well for us. Player of the future and a pleasure to coach. 58

60 Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club Inc. Annual Report 2010/2011 Bradley Deitz: The character of the side who looks a good player and always competes hard. Hit the winning runs in the last game which was fitting as he looks like Rugby League is where his future lies. Easily the quickest in the side. Harmon Sandhu: He has a solid technique and showed signs of being a quality player of the future. Only 14, bowled some nice overs and picked up some crucial wickets with his nagging line and length. Big things ahead in coming seasons. Jeremy Maher: Only played a couple of games and showed he was a class above this level with the ball until he made his way to representing NSW U17. Daniel Manning: Our leading wicket taker who got vital wickets regularly with his attacking leg spin. Hits a clean ball with the bat but with some smarter options could be a contributor with this part of his game as well. Should play higher grades sooner rather than later. Rajprasanth Varatharajah: Bowled well, always tight and always grabbing wickets. Swinging the ball back into the right hander when he gets it right. Great energy in the field and skilful middle order batsman. Has the potential to make his mark in grade cricket next season. Sam Fensom: Opened the bowling and not always took the wickets he deserved. Great team man and a pleasure to coach. Not sure of Sam s plans but would love to see him playing grade next season. Liam Hatcher: Did not play a game due to an incident with a brick but will get this shot next season and I m sure he will make a mark with his pace bowling and handy batting. Brandon Jones: Limited opportunities but understands the game nicely and always hard to dislodge at the crease. With a bit more strength the runs will come with his stodgy defence. He bowled nicely and took vital wickets and always tried his best out on the field. Tayler Evans: Big personality in the team. Did some keeping and did it pretty well. Could improve down leg side a bit but has a good idea of what is expected. Did not get much of a go with the bat but shows some promise and has some ability to work with if he can fit it in with his COD playing and back end management skills. Justin Bertovic: Was one of our train-on players but got a game through injury and will be a vital player of the side in the next 2 seasons. Andrew Deitz: Another train-on player who got a game as well due to injury and kept wicket nicely and will be another to play a big role in the coming years. Cameron Bournes: Good all-rounder who I m sure with more opportunities next season will make his mark. Good in the field and economical bowling combine with some busy batting and smart running between wickets. Anthony Clark - Coach Doug Williams - Manager 59
