Many will remember Tim from the "Saltwater Fly Fishers Picnics" sponsored by Uptown Angler, as well as his visits to the New Orleans fly shop. Whether it's recreating images of fish, wildlife or scenery on the canvas, or tying flies that fool the wily underwater denizens found near his home in the Florida Keys, Tim Borski personifies the "art of the sport" of fly fishing like few others. Both his art and his flies are cherished by many. Borski grew up in Wisconsin but moved to Miami at age 23, and to the Florida Keys shortly after. In the Keys, he found an opportunity as caretaker on Craig Key, that allowed him to develop as an artist. Following an article about him in Men's Journal magazine in 2007, a following for his watercolor paintings arose. Branching into oils and acrylics, he constantly innovates, so life in the Borski household is never boring. The same passion he exudes in his artwork, he does so in his flies. Lefty Kreh describes Tim as "an excellent fly tyer who has developed a number of innovative and effective flies". The patterns in his "Borski Ties Flies" videos have - in recent years - become part an integral part of many saltwater and warmwater fly boxes. As an artist and author, Tim is often busy, but always has time for his other passions: fly fishing, paddling, and herpetology. Going "snaking" and camping with his boys Josef, 10, and Gus, 7, fishing around the house (Florida Bay), and the occasional business jaunt keeps Tim happy at home and on the road, meeting new and interesting people. Check out Tim's website at This will be your opportunity to meet and visit with one of this country s premier fly tiers and fly fishers, and watch him tie his famous patterns in person. 5 RSFF Banquet A Cajun Feast Friday, March 1, 2013 Location: Louisiana Resource Center for Education (LRCE) Time: 6:30pm to 9:30pm Note: No Alcohol Permitted Fried catfish appetizers Menu: Assorted dishes and desserts prepared by the RSFF Bayou Chefs Cost: $15 per adult Most of our established members know the quality of our cooks. If you re a new member and haven t been to our banquet, you need to come! As Nick Curcione once told us, For you guys, dining isn t a pleasure, it s a contact sport. Back to the banquet details... Dress can be formal, semi-formal, or casual. But, please, NO WADERS! We'll also recognize the Club Awards: Bob Dennie Memorial (outstanding achievement), Riley LeBlanc Memorial (contributions to fly tying or crafts), and President s Award (club service). Ladies Drawing: To be politically correct - a Spouse/Date drawing. So bring your spouse, or date, or both if they know each other, and they too can have a chance to win something! Raffle / Gambler s Draw: Do you feel lucky? Remember to bring your $15 (per person) to the program or fly the tying meeting. Or mail in the form below with check to: RSFF, PO Box 3761, Baton Rouge, LA FAQs About Conclave by events chair, Glen Cormier The natives are restless. Everyone is anxiously looking forward to great presentations, great fly tying demos, great food, great camaraderie,... and yes, the raffle booty. But don't overlook the opportunity to ask questions throughout the day, and learn from the many knowledgeable folks on hand. Being a member of Psychic Fishing Hotline, I'm able to anticipate any questions about our conclave before they're even asked. Q. What s the deal for raffle tickets this year? A. Ticket donations are $1 per ticket, or $20 for 30 tickets, or the BIG BUNDLE. The BIG BUNDLE is RSFF, PO Box 3761, Page 5 Baton Rouge, La

6 $50 and includes 60 tickets PLUS family membership for A savings of $15 over paying for tickets and membership seperately! Q. What is the timetable for the fundraiser? A. Here's the timetable: 12:30 - gambler's draw. $5 per card. 3:00 pm - raffle draw. Remember to put your name on ticket. Q. Can we buy raffle tickets in advance and put them on certain prizes? A. Unless you give money to a proxy who s willing to buy the tickets and put them under your name. For some strange reason, folks who ve done this never seem to win, while their proxies always win big. Q. What are the raffle and auction prizes? A. Let's just say it's the usual good stuff - art, accessories, collectibles, books, rods, reels, clothing, etc. But I would like to see more flies. (hint, hint). I encourage everyone to look through their fishing stuff and consider donating anything unused or unwanted. Even the ol commie tackle will be accepted. Q. Where does the fundraiser money go? A. Those who buy the Big Bundle, half of that money will go as dues. Dues go to pay recurring club expenses. Some of the money will be used to cover conclave expenses. The remainder will go towards clinics (Casting 101, Fly Fishing 101, Rod Building) and outside projects (Boy Scouts, BREC ponds, etc). Q. The lunch when will it be served, and does it come with soft drink? A. Well, I should ve known. The only time you folks don t think about the raffle is when you re thinking about the food! Lunch is scheduled to begin about 11:30, but it could be as late as 12 noon. Please don t be too anxious quality should never be rushed! Oh, and yes, all soft drinks are free thru the day. Q. If a tier shows me how to a fly, can I keep it? A. Rules here are like the FFF conclaves. Please ask the tier first. Q. Will we have rods on hand to test cast, canoes and kayaks to test paddle? A. Yes, Larry Offner of Green Trout Fly Shop will have Temple Fork Outfitters rods on hand to cast. We also hope to have a few of the new Orvis models from Orvis Company Store to cast as well. Our good friends at Backpacker will be back with some demo models from their lineup, which includes Hobie, Old Town, Ocean Kayak, Wilderness Systems, and the Kajun Kayaks, built right here in The BR! Don t walk run to Backpacker and check out all their new boats! Q. Can we use bait to fish the ponds? A. Nope. RSFF, PO Box 3761, Page 6 Baton Rouge, La

7 Four Things You Can Do To Make Our Conclave A Success 1. COME TO THE CONCLAVE. A lot of work goes into this event, and we do it to fulfill our primary purpose of education and promoting our sport. We want everyone to have a good time as well. 2. BRING NEW PEOPLE. There'll be folks willing to answer questions, teach casting, or teach fly tying all day long. 3. TIE FLIES, DONATE ITEMS. We love our sponsors - our "Friends of RSFF". And we ask club members to support their business in kind. Still, the biggest contributors each year are our own members. Many of you tie flies, and we ask you to contribute at least one set of flies, but two or more would be better. And if you think about it, the more flies you tie, the more you help support our sponsors, right? Instead of putting 24 saltwater flies in one box, consider making them 3 sets of 8 to 10 flies. Likewise for freshwater flies. The reason for this it creates more prizes and more chances for attendees to win. We d like everyone to go home with something. So start tying flies now! 4. COME TO THE BANQUET. Here s your chance to experience our famous "Bayou Chefs". The price is extremely reasonable only $15 per person so we want everyone to come and bring their family. But we DO need for you to make the reservation and send your check. Incidentally, our Bayou Chefs are always looking for new cooks. We will gladly accept anyone who wishes to kick in with their favorite menu item. The club will reimburse you for ingredients. RSFF, PO Box 3761, Page 7 Baton Rouge, La
