By the end of the full day workshop I d made a unique bag and am planning to make a patchwork quilt as my next project. Its such fun and Karen is so patient, it doesn t seem like a class. Thanks to Carol, making jewellery is not just a hobby but a lifetime passion Carol runs beginners, Kumihimo and beaded stitching classes at her studio, four miles from Omagh.

Samurai warriors used the ancient Japanese art of Kumihimo to lace their armour, but Carol uses a modern adaptation of the braid to create exquisite beaded bracelets and necklaces. She taught us about developing characters, structuring our stories, how to write good dialogue and even had us writing in different genres by the end. 14 How to fly fish I d wanted to try fly fishing for ages, but didn t know how to start. This was the ideal way. All the equipment was supplied, the fishery a 12-acre streamfed lake surrounded by rolling grassland and woodland was packed with rainbow trout and the instructor who took me out on the boat made it seem like second nature. We had a brilliant holiday, and so did our horse!

They taught me all about grooming my horse, how to maintain the stable and lots of things I didn t even know about, like plaiting. My horse is happy, now he s treated like a king! Half the fun is what you see on the way, including the beautiful Argory and Maghery Country Park, where the river flows into Lough Neagh. The experienced canoeists paddled on to magical Coney Island. There s a fantastic choice, 13km of beautiful blue trails to dramatic red/ black technically challenging loops something for all the abilities. It s so beautiful too, cycling though woods and by lakes and a nature reserve. One of the finest trails in the UK or Ireland, its become a Mecca for mountain bike enthusiasts. Set in the grounds of the Blessingbourne Country Estate, the trails were designed by Phil Saxena, course designer for the Beijing Olympics. Blessingbourne offers five self-catering apartments and a gorgeous gate lodge, you can mountain bike from your door step. Bike lock up facilities available. 20 How to be a rally driver If you want to experience the excitement of rally driving, this is the nearest to the real thing there is. High up on the extreme terrain of the Sperrin Mountains, we drove furiously around tight hairpins, fast straights, crests and medium corners.
