4 SOFTBALL RULES 1. Games will work on a time basis with innings being completed only if play is at the bottom of an innings. 2. If play is at the top of innings when bell/hooter sounds then play ceases and the score is taken on even innings count. 3. There will be a ten-minute gap to allow completion of 1 and also to allow teams to warm up. 4. Games must start on the signal, that is, on time. 5. Only one time out of 60 seconds per innings, with no time out in the last five minutes. 6. Catchers must wear a mask when facing the pitcher, no exceptions. 7. Only one base on an overthrow over the foul line plus the one you were going to. 8. You can t come home on a ball if no netting behind the catcher. 9. You can t come home on a first or second strike if no netting behind the catcher. 10. Bat must not be left in a dangerous position or thrown dangerously. An out will result. 11. The umpire s decisions are final. For safety: 12 inch Flexiball Ball to be used. Batters MUST use batting helmets. Catchers MUST use masks and chest protectors, and MUST use leg guards. These may be available from your local clubs). If there is a Safety base at first base, the runner uses the red and the base-person uses the white. If waiting on first base the runner then must use the white.

Championship Grades: Under 45 kg Under 55 kg Open Weight (minimum of 50kg) Boots and mouthguards are compulsory at Inter-zone Field day These are playing weights (on the field) - no allowances or exceptions! B. Zone entry: 1 team per grade (15 players on field - maximum squad of 22 players) For safety: Boots and mouthguard are compulsory Players are only able to play in one grade on the day. Eastern/Franklin/NorthWest have the option to enter a composite team from the school that won the Rugby Zone Day (10 aside) plus additional players from the 2 nd /3 rd placed schools.

13 AUCKLAND INTERMEDIATE SCHOOLS RUGBY ZONE RULES TEAM / PLAYING CONDITIONS All Zone Championships will be 15 a-side. Maximum squad size of 22. Rolling substitutions from a maximum of 7 reserve players. Maximum game time will be 20 minutes, with no half time break. Teams to be at fields 5 minutes before kick-off. Coin toss to determine the direction of the teams. Teams will play alternating games. One game on, one game off, one game on and so on. Minimum of four games, maximum of 8 games in one Championship Zone Tournament. Boots are compulsory at the Boys Inter-zone Championships. COACHES Coaches are not permitted on the field during a game. Every player MUST WEAR MOUTHGUARDS. NO MOUTHGUARD, NO PLAY. FIELD / BALL Intermediate Schools will use a full Rugby field. Games are to use a modified Rugby ball, Size 4. TACKLES / RUCKS / MAULS Tacklers must release the ball carrier and roll clear once on the ground before contesting the ruck. Players must enter a ruck through the gate directly behind the ruck. No entry from the sides. Rucking the ball is not allowed. This is dangerous play. Players protecting the ball MUST be able to support their own weight and be on their feet. They can not lie or rest upon their own players to protect the ball. Players must not deliberately pull down a maul in progress. This is dangerous play. A high tackle is judged to be above the nipple line or the arm pit. This includes the act of pulling / grabbing the jersey. A dangerous tackles is judged as: - Shoulder charging (no use of arms). - Lifting of the tackled player above horizontal to the ground.

14 SCORING A try will be worth five points. Conversions will be taken at the point of scoring the try. After the try the non-scoring team will kick-off. In the event of a score blow out (35+), scoring team will kick off. SCRUM / LINEOUT Scrums are contested, 1m push maximum. No halfback past the tunnel. Non-contested scrums will be at the discretion of the referee as a safety measure. Lineouts are to be contested. No lifting is allowed. FOUL PLAY The sin bin will be utilised for any dangerous play in any game. The sin bin will be for a period of 5 minutes. FAIRPLAY All players are expected to conduct themselves and play the game with a positive attitude. Play your part - Play Fair. Players are representing their schools and should do so with respect for their school, teachers, and fellow students. Abuse of referees will not be permitted. Players are to show respect to the referees at all time as they are volunteers. With out referees there would be no games.

24 Auckland Intermediate School Rugby League Competition Rules 2017 (Modified for Auckland Primary Schools and the Ministry of Education) Field Size: Field size for Intermediate Schools Modified Rugby League will be approx. 70m x 50m Players: 10 on the Field and 4 Reserves on the Bench for unlimited subbing. Gear: Each Player must have Jersey and Shorts, and a Mouth guard. All players Must have footwear. Sprigged Football boots are allowed, at this age group players compete in them at club level. Game Time: x2 playing halves of 12 minutes each way. No half-time break, straight swap over on the hooter. The games will be played under normal NZRL Rules of Rugby League with the following variations to suit the age group; No Scrums, all infringements result in a Hand-over for Zero count PTB x6 Tackles in each set before a Hand-over to opposing team Defence are to retire x5 metres from the PTB with One Marker. The defence cannot advance until the first Pass is caught, or the Dummy-half runs. Safe Play Code ( applies i.e. tackles below the armpits. Kicking is allowed in general play at this grade. But NO BOMBS! I.e. Kick-offs, goal line drop outs if a player is tackled in their own goal-line. Any infringement of this Rule will result in a Hand-over at the Kick Mark. Starts and Restarts are all Place Kicks required to travel 10 metres forward before either team touches the ball. If the ball then travels out of play, the kicking team regains possession. After a try is scored, the scoring team must immediately return to half-way & kick off. The non-scoring team receives. Attacking Team must pass the Ball twice to retain possession except when working out Hard Yards from within 20 metres of their own Try Line, when one Pass must be made to retain possession. The sin bin does not apply in Mod League. Should a player be guilty of conduct which warrants a sin bin the referee will give player a warning, if caught with second offence, the referee will direct player to the coach for replacement giving the offending player a rest on the side-line. Coaches are not to be on the field at any time.
