1 Sports Snippets - Term 4 Week 3 Wednesday 31st October, 2018 We would love to share information about your child s special achievements across all sporting areas, please detailed information and a photograph if available to: skellett@arm.catholic.edu.au 2018 cycling australia masters road national championships On Tuesday 16th October we drove 12hrs to East Gippsland (the very bottom of Victoria) as Mum (Katrina Ashford) was competing in the Australian Titles for Cycling. 100 s of cyclists had travelled from Perth, Queensland, South Australia, N.S.W and of course Victoria. Mum s first race was Thursday 18th Oct for an Individual Time Trial. These courses for this are usually flat and straight however this one was extremely hard. We drove it the day before and Mum rode it for practice. It was very hilly and steep. Mum raced and came 7th overall. The times were so close between each competitor - only seconds apart. Friday we had a family fun day at the wharf and went shopping as her next race was on Saturday 20th. It was a road race of 75 kms but it started pouring down rain before her race so she decided to forfeit and pull out as coming down the hills on the course would have been really slippery and dangerous at a fast race pace. We then left Metung to make our trip back home to Tamworth. She hopes to qualify again next year and makes it in the top 5. Well done!! Nsw bmx state series Zac Whalan has been competing in the NSW BMX State Series having to complete 4 out of 6 rounds to qualify and coming away with second overall. He also competed at the BMX NSW State titles making the final and coming away with 4th place. 2
