Hockey 1 st Team Back Row L-R: Mrs J Blatherwick, Yvonne Harris, Janet Newton, D. Priest, Jean Foreman, Ann Cooke, Ann Ward, Mr Hamilton. Front Row L-R: Margaret Phillips, Maureen Mathers, Nora Carlile, Jean Nuttall, Kathleen Cooper, Susan Butcher. The Hockey Teams this year have had a fairly successful season. The 1st X1 having won 4, lost 5 and drawn 2 games; the second X1 having won 4, lost 5 and drawn 2 and the Juniors having won 1 and lost 1. Bad weather prevented a fair number of the matches from being played. The weather cleared up, however, for the Rally, in which eight schools took part, Percy Jackson's Grammar School being the winners and Ossett Grammar School the runners-up. At the end of the season, , Repeat Colours were awarded to Valerie Manning and Jean Nuttall, and Full Colours to Maureen Mathers, Ann Ward and M. Pearson. At the end of the season, , Repeat Colours were awarded to Ann Ward, Maureen Mathers and Jean Nuttall, and Full Colours to Jean Foreman and Margaret Phillips. On behalf of the teams I would like to thank Miss Parkin and her games-helpers for the encouragement and advice they have given us throughout the season. I should also like to extend our thanks to Mr. Rhodes for his excellent care of the pitches. Jean Nuttall (Captain) 5T

Netball 1 st Team Back Row L-R: Mrs A Podmore (Miss Collins), Brenda Ball, Jennifer Lindley, Mr Hamilton Front Row L-R: Muriel Gamewell, Margaret Bloore, Jean Snookes, Gloria Farnsworth, Pamela Hall. Primarily, on behalf of us all - well both - netball teams, I would like to extend our thanks to Mrs. Podmore for her help and advice during the season. Although this advice was often given, we did not seem able to produce the desired results. In fact we became accustomed to hearing on Monday morning, "The Netball Team lost..." We must, however, be a stubborn set, for we managed to end the season with two victories, one of which was the match with our old "enemies", Felkirk Modern School. We are particularly proud of our performance because in previous matches with this school, we have invariably had to be good losers. We managed to secure only two fixtures for the Juniors, which was a great pity for, although they were keen at the beginning, their enthusiasm flagged towards the end of the season. We understand their difficulty, and hope that next season they will re-appear with their interest. Most of this year's team members will be able to play again next year, so there should be an improvement. Colours were awarded to E. Hirst and J. Snookes. To the members I should like to say, "Keep Trying". J. Snookes, LV1S, (Price)
Netball 2 nd Team Back Row L-R: Pamela Hall, Mrs A. Podmore (Miss Collins), Maureen Ellam. Front Row L-R: Brenda Ball, Isabell Snowden, Julia Street, Patricia Beevers, Muriel Gamewell.

Girls Tennis 1 st Team Back Row L-R: Mrs J Blatherwick (Miss Parkin), Valerie Higham, Mr Hamilton. Front Row L-R: Margaret Bloore, Gloria Farnsworth, Jean Foreman, Jean Nuttall, Maureen Mathers. Although no matches have actually been won by the 1st Tennis V1 this season, the performances have certainly improved on those of last year. Thanks to the coaching of Miss Parkin, aided this year by Miss Hampshire, the girls are showing much greater interest, and it is very encouraging to see swarms of Juniors invading the tennis courts at lunchtime; perhaps this spells success for the future. Another encouraging observation is the enthusiasm shown by the 2nd team members, which has resulted in a win for them this season. Let us hope that this enthusiasm will continue, and guarantee an even more successful season next year. Jean Foreman (Captain) U6A
Tennis 2 nd Team Back Row L-R: Hilary Higham, Miss E Hampshire, Jennifer Lindley. Front Row L-R: Kathleen Ratcliffe, Jean Snookes, Rona Tatton, Susan Butcher, Doreen Millea, Ann Beaumont.
Rounders 1 st Team Photo from Maureen Cooper. Thank you, Maureen. Back Row L-R: Mr. Hamilton, Pat Studd, D. Priest, B. Johnson, Cynthia Manning, Miss Elliot Front row L-R: Nora Carlile, Dora Lumby, Pat Brooke, Maureen Cooper, Vivienne Marshall The first Rounders team consisted mainly of young players as only three members of last season s team remained at school. Although, of the four matches, the teams have lost two and drawn two, I have great hopes for a successful season next year, when we expect to have more fixtures. The juniors have always been helpful, turning out for practices and helping at matches. I am sure many of them will be worthy members of future first teams. I should like to thank, on behalf of the teams, Mrs. Young and Miss Parkin for their help, advice and coaching, and Mr. Rhodes for his excellent care of the playing fields. Edith Horbury, 5S
