1 10 October 2016 P A R E N T S insite SPORTS SUCCESS AT CCW A Busy week for Caedmon College Whitby s Netball Teams On Tuesday evening, our Year 11 girls conducted themselves admirably at the District Tournament - both on and off court, serving the College well as ambassadors. In centre court, Emily Waring, Ellie Wilson and Jessie Locker worked smoothly together. The shooting prowess of Ellis Price, Ruth Ashley and Danielle Walker afforded some high scoring matches whilst Katy Hansell and Leah Barnard were staunch in defence. Player of the Tournament was Captain, Freya Storr, whose energy, determination and strong passing was exemplary. The team finished fourth in the District. Snaith and Maya Hemingway. Little penetrated the stalwart defence of Rosie Hutt (captain), Charlotte Everall and Lydia Shone-Hatchwell. The College s Year 10 team contested a very close game, with the lead ebbing and flowing between the two teams through all 4 quarters. However, it was St Augustine s team who came out on top with a victory. The team, comprising of Jaz Kent, Issy Hogarth, Anna Lees, Mae Knight, Ruby Elliot, Emily Lewis, Livvy Hinchley and Daisy Storr, played well as On Wednesday evening, Caedmon College Whitby s Year 9 and Year 10 girls travelled to St Augustine s School in Scarborough for the first round of the district cup. The Year 9s, who regularly attend training on Monday and Wednesday lunchtimes won The shooting from Erin Hodgson and Pheonix Sykes was exceptional. The centre court was dominated by Olivia Morrison, ably assisted by Emma
2 individuals but lacked team cohesiveness at times... something that will be developed through more regular attendance at training sessions. Thursday evening in the October sunshine saw the turn of Caedmon College Whitby s Year 9 girls to travel to Scalby School in Scarborough to take on 10 other teams from across the District at the Annual District Tournament. Endeavour was evident in abundance. The girls gave 100% throughout the gruelling 10 match tournament. In the first 2 games, the girls were caught a little off guard and narrowly beaten by the eventual winners and runner up Malton and Ryedale Schools. From then on, the College girls went from strength to strength with wins over Eskdale School, Graham School, Scalby School, Scarborough College, Pindar School, Filey and St Augustine s, but were denied a podium finish after losing by one goal to Lady Lumley s School. In centre court, Olivia Morrison (captain) led by example. Agility personified was Jessica Price who worked very well with the astute Kat Harrison-Gaze, the nimble Maddie Hart, the fleet of foot Abigail Motson and tenacious newcomer Harriet Cooke. The shooters Erin Hodgson and Phoenix Sykes were very effective, particularly with their long range shots. Imogen Wright was very competitive in both shooting and defensive roles whilst dogged defending from Charlotte Everall and Tia Woods ensured plenty of clean sheets. CROSS COUNTRY Last week, Caedmon College Whitby fielded teams in all age groups. The course was, as ever, tough with that hill to climb (twice for the Y10 /11 boys!) All students demonstrated real endeavour and resilience and should be very proud of themselves. The College s Key Stage 3 boys won the Richard Lucas Memorial Trophy, beating all the other schools in the district. The Key Stage 4 boys and girls both finished in second place. Special mention must be given to Sonny McDermott who won the Year 7 race with an expertly paced run. Other top ten finishers who stand a very real chance of District selection include Sophie Morrison, Grace Cook, Tilly Adamski, Issy Hogarth, Anna Lees, Finley Swales, Jack Knowles, Joe Lees and Ben Botham. FOOTBALL Sam Spenceley CCW Y7 made his debut for Scarborough and District Schools U12 on Saturday 1 October versus Barnsley Schools away. He was excellent at Centre Back in a 2-3 defeat but scored with a well taken volley! Next game for the District who normally play home games on the lush pitches at Bramcote School, Scarborough is on Saturday 8 October versus York Schools at Caedmon College Whitby, 10.30am kick off. The following weeks they take on Leeds, Sheffield, Nottingham all away. Marshall Kelly Y8 has made the U13 District side again - well done Marshall - and figured in their defeat at Barnsley.
