1 GASC NEWSLETTER JULY 1, 2018 GASC NEWSLETTER UPCOMING EVENTS Notes from the president Dear Fellow Members, What an exciting month we had in June! It is undeniable that the World Cup brings people together, sharing chants, pride, fears, tears, and bursts of emotions as a result of their team s performances. This cup is certainly one to remember and is not done yet, so we look forward to being able to see our teams go forward to the knockout stage while the excitement rises exponentially. We celebrated Father s day with a lovely family-and-friends crowd by enjoying a hearty German breakfast that included Wurst and Leberkäse. Then we watched Die Mannschaft debut followed by an awesome Brazilian style BBQ and the day closed with more soccer, this time with Brazil playing. The following weekend, we got together again to watch Germany remaining alive spectacularly in the very last minute. What a celebration inside our main hall, everybody got goosebumps while performing a unisonous drum roll accompanying the last play. Unfortunately the magic didn't last long and they left the world cup way too early and we'll need to wait until the Euro Cup to see them again. During the month of July, we will get together for certain matches. Remember to check the schedule shown on our website, especially for the finals game on July 15th. 2 GASC NEWSLETTER JUNE 1, 2018 As a reminder, at the last membership meeting, we approved to move the July meeting to July 13th since it is expected that many members will be out of town the week of July 4th. Have a safe wonderful Fourth of July and may your team be World Champions!!! Herzliche Grüße Hubert Weichselbaumer President GASC NEWS COME ONE, COME ALL, WE REALLY NEED 'ALL' AT OUR JULY 14TH CLEANUP DAY We are planning on trying to have multiple teams, primarily small ones, of 3 to 5 folks to go to various areas to work on improving our Club. We have various areas outside that can have some minor details attended to. We hope to start early say between 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. as it will be hot outside by noon and we will have to switch to inside events only. Outside we wish to tackle those potato vines growing in various area and trim some of the small hedges. Possibly inserting the posts for our two pending handicap signs is another goal. On the inside we wish to continue to improve cleaning our attic and back areas. On the lighting side, if possible we can commence to replace the old dirty yellow light bulbs with new ones' that we now have in stock. These are but a few of the projects planned, so please take a few hours out of your day to come by on July 14th. Emilio Palma 1st VP

Our lifetime member Irmgard Beland passed away June 22nd in Port St. Lucie. Our sincere condolences to her husband Bill and family. We lost two more lifetime members and well known members of the club: Emma Blanton passed away May 23 and her husband Bob passed on June 13. Our condolences go out to the family. WISHING WELL

4 GASC NEWSLETTER JUNE 1, 2018 SPORTS AT THE GASC MIAMI RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB The GASC hosts practices and socials for the oldest Rugby team in Florida, Miami RFC. Rugby is a tough physical sport that grew out of soccer and is a precursor to American football. We welcome players of all skill levels (no skills or experience necessary) and all age groups. We have both men s and women s rugby. Practices are at the GASC on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Youth (U8-U19) practice 6:30-8:00 pm. Senior men and women practice 8:00-10:00pm. Come join the fastest growing sport in America! We continue to work on our accuracy every week. The Club owns an air rifle and an air pistol which we take turns using. First timers welcome. (No time for dinner? We often order pizza when no other events are planned.) We are looking at alternative days to meet. Contact Tony Sellers for more information (786) DISC GOLF As of Monday 5/14, we have 10 weeks (Mondays 6pm-8pm) of indoor disc golf putting at the GASC. Bring 5 putting discs or we will provide for beginners. Cost is $7 per event with prizes given out weekly. Beer, Frisbees, baskets and fun, who could ask for more? 18+ years old No rsvp needed. SUNDAY SOCCER Originally started by the German consulate, the soccer players that practice at the club are all members of the club. They practice 9 to 11 Sunday mornings. Players tend to be between 15 and 60 years of age. A $5/game fee is collected to cover field maintenance.
