2 Work in and around any excavation is hazardous Every year people are killed or seriously injured by collapses and falling materials whilst working in excavations. Digging foundations and trenches for drains is one of the first jobs carried out on a construction site and, unhappily for some, it is the last job that they carry out. HSE Suppor t As part of the on-going drive to improve standards and reduce the threat to the safety of workers in the construction industry, the Working Well Together (WWT) group, supported by the Health and Safety Executive, is holding a free, half-day event. The aim of the event is to raise awareness of safe practices in excavations and the measures to take to help avoid the main failings in excavation work.
