3 Foreword and Invitation Foreword from the organisation of the EPFC 2018 What does one do when presented with the opportunity to make a long-cherished wish come true? I didn t have to think long when I was asked to organize the EPFC I accepted this challenge readily, and I have already enjoyed it very much. There are a great number of matters to arrange in advance before we are anywhere near the tournament, and I couldn t possibly do all this work on my own. Many thanks to Alwin Koks and Roy Witte for their effort and support! The HPSV (Haaglandse Police Sports Association) also deserves a big thank you for their support. To all those of you who are helping out, putting in the time, supporting us - thank you all! Without your efforts, the EPFC 2018 would not be possible. I also want to thank all our sponsors - many thanks to you, too! It all starts with finding a good course. A good course is a stretch of water where all can take part under equal circumstances. And of course, there need to be plenty fish too. I have chosen a stretch I had been considering for quite some time: the Noordhollandsch Kanaal. Lots of fish, a beautiful, quiet environment, and the Necker mill provide for a typically Dutch setting. Happily, we didn t have any trouble getting a permit to organize the match in this water. The Noordhollandsch Kanaal offers a course of nearly 7,5 kilometres (appr. 5 miles) with a nice wide bank that provides ample space for everyone. This will give all contestants a good opportunity to catch fish. This course, from the Necker mill in Wijdewormer to Spijkerboor, is reserved exclusively for the EPFC 2018 from 3-9 September The match days are September 7 and 8, When choosing a venue, it is important to consider a suitable base from which we host our event. This location should also provide for the joint activities during the competition. We have chosen the Dorphuis (Community Centre) Wijdewormer at Wijdewormer. This is, as we like to say, just around the corner of the angling course. The secretariat will partly be at Resort De Rijp in Oost-Graftdijk and partly in this Dorphuis Wijdewormer at Wijdewormer. (Viz. Match Secretariat / Services above). We have made some recommendations for accommodations for the participants and their companions to help you select a place to stay. Our recommendations are listed below. Partners and companions will find ample opportunity for recreation and sightseeing in the vicinity of the fishing course. Amsterdam, Volendam, and The Zaanse Schans with its famous old mills are all nearby. The EPFC 2018 is of course a big event with a coveted championship title at stake. I very much hope it will also be a sociable and sporting competition in which all participants will enjoy the good company. I have always enjoyed the camaraderie at the previous European championships in which I took part. We strive to create this experience for all of you on this event. We will continue the preparations for this year s European Police Fishing Championships. We aim to offer you all a beautiful and successful event. We ll see you in September! 4 Venue course Noordhollandsch Kanaal (Wijdewormer/Spijkerboor) The championship will take place along the Noordhollandsch Kanaal. The canal has a total length of 80 km and cuts through the province of Noord-Holland. Its many connections with other waterways makes this canal very attractive for angling, especially coarse fishing. Fish can reach this canal from many different waterways. The competition will be held on a course that is situated between the Necker mill in Wijdewormer and Spijkerboor. The course boasts a total length of 7,5 kilometres. The road alongside this stretch of the canal is called the Kanaaldijk at Wijdewormer and Kanaaldijk at Spijkerboor. (See the locality map below) The course is entirely accessible by car. You can park your car directly behind the fishing spots. In most places, the banks on either side of the canal are lined with reeds. Needless to say, the fish like the reeds most of all. Therefore, you may want to use the feeder rod. However, the canal is also very well known for good angling with the long pole. The width of the canal varies between 40 and 50 metres. The depth varies from 1.5 metres very near to the banks till approximately 4.5 metres in the middle of the canal. At 11 meters in it is about 3 metres deep. The water has a leasurely flow and will stream only a little faster after heavy rains. Heavy feeders or floats are not necessary. The species we expect to be seeing are roach, rudd, ide, perch, ruffe, white bream, tench and bream ranging from 1 to 2 kilos. There is also the possibility to hook a carp. 14 Competition & Angling rules General rules / Fishing licence Fishing is according to the rules and regulations of the EPFC but in compliance with the Dutch Fishery laws. By Dutch Fishery laws every angler needs to be in possession of a fishing license. For the EPFC 2018, we obtained an overall permit from Sportvisserij Nederland. Thanks to Sportvisserij Nederland there will be no costs for the participants. Free running system by rod and reel When using the method- or feeder rod it is mandatory to use a free running rig system. The feeder or the lead must be running free up the mainline. In the event of a breakage, the line fitting shall allow the fish to break free easily from the feeder or lead. It is forbidden to put any stop or slower (e.g. silicon) between the feeder and the reel. (See the picture below) Keepnet The use of a keepnet during practice days is forbidden. Caught fish must be returned in the water immediately and with care. During the days of the competition the following restrictions are in place for the use of keepnets: Per keepnet there is limit of 20 kilogrammes of weight permitted. If the fish in a keepnet are found weighing between 20 and 22.5 kilogrammes, the weight for this net will be counted as 20 kilogrammes. If the fish in a keepnet are found weighing in excess of 22.5 kg, the total weight of that keepnet will be counted as zero. The transfer of fish from one keepnet to another keepnet is forbidden. Catapult/Pult The use of a catapult/pult is not allowed. Haaglandse Police Sports Association Angling Division 14

15 Allowed Baits Allowed as hookbaits are maggots (only white ones), pinkies (only white ones), casters, corn, hemp, pellets and boilies. On practice days as well as on the days of the competition a maximum of 4 litres of the mentioned hookbaits may be used. It is not allowed to have more than 4 litres of hookbaits in the peg when the check of the bait and limits is taking place and afterwards. Worms may also be used. On practice days as well as on the days of the competition you may use a maximum of 1 kilogramme of worms. It is not allowed to have more than 1 kilogramme of worms in the peg when the check of the bait and limits is taking place and afterwards. Imitations of the above mentioned hookbait are allowed. Forbidden baits Red (and other coloured) maggots or pinkies, vers de vase and jokers are forbidden. At the same time all other artificial baits, other than the imitations of the mentioned allowed hookbaits, are forbidden. Groundbait On practice days as well as on the days of the competition you may use a total of 5 litres ready for use (wetted) groundbait. This includes all additives such as leam, earth, gravel etc. but excluding the hookbaits. These 5 litres of ready for use (wetted) groundbait is the maximum of what you are allowed to have in your peg when the check of the bait and limits is taking place and afterwards. Forbidden Species It is forbidden to have pike, pike-perch, eel or catfish present in the keepnet. These species are not allowed, won t count for the result and must be returned in the water immediately and with care. Officials There will be stewards at the course who will inspect the fishing-tackle, baits and the weighing of the catch. Every angler has to follow the instructions and requests from the stewards. In case of a dispute a member of the organization or a member of the EPFC board will rule. If necessary the EPFC board will rule after the competition. Prohibition leaving peg during competition It is prohibited to leave the peg between the time of the check of bait and limits and the signal end competition. In case of urgent necessity deliberate with the stewards. Clean peg Every participant is obliged to make sure that his peg is clean and put in order before leaving the peg after fishing on the days of practice as well as on the days of the competition. Therefore binliners will be handed over to the participants. Parking in berm. During the event the cars must be parked entirely in the berm along the canal. All wheels must be off of the road. So, it s also prohibited to park on the go by areas. Haaglandse Police Sports Association Angling Division 15

16 Parking car during competition days On the days of the competition the car of the competitor, present on the peg, has to be moved out of his peg on the time the check of bait and limits starts. It has to be moved to the peg situated directly on the right. The car has to be parked at the right side of that peg against the line that separate that peg from the next peg. The car from the last peg has to be moved towards the flag that marks the end of the total pegs. 18 At VGB Bait Factory bait and groundbait can be ordered at the following prices. Hookbait Maggots large 7 euros per litre. Maggots small (pinkies) 7 euros per litre. Casters 10 euros per litre. Worms large 15 euros per kg. Worms mixed 16 euros per kg. Worms small 18 euros per kg. Groundbait Feeder special 7,5 euros per 2 kg. Feeder Yellow 7,5 euros per 2 kg. Dender Orange 7,5 euros per 2 kg. The hookbaits and groundbait must be ordered per team/per day. The bait orders will have to be sent to the organization per country via the representative of your country. VGB Bait Factory will be at the venue daily to deliver the ordered hookbaits and groundbait. They will be present between hours under the bridge on the Kanaaldijk along the Noordhollandsch Kanaal near the Verbindingsweg at Purmerend. A plan for the location will be available via the organization. VGB Bait Factory will also have a limited assortment of fishing tackle available such as feeders, fishing line, hooks etc. The payment of the hookbaits and groundbait has to be done daily at VGB Bait Factory as they deliver the hookbaits and groundbait. Order Form A order form for hookbaits and groundbait will be sent separately with this brochure. The order form must be send to the organization together with the entry form. 19 Lunch on competition days You may if you like order lunch for both competition days. These will be arranged by the people of Het Dorpshuis at Wijdewormer. Prepared lunch will cost 7,50. Ordering lunch can be done via the option on the entries form. Dinner possibilities Het Dorpshuis at Wijdewormer During the week of the event you can have dinner at Het Dorpshuis at Wijdewormer on those days when there are no organized dinners. Remember to make a reservation at Het Dorpshuis for a dinner.
