Please establish an International Plan with your cell service provider prior to your trip. For your family, friends, and business associates that must call you while you are on the island have them call your own cell phone or have them call Deposits to Confirm Your Trip Are Needed Deposits are $ per person Cad funds. A deposit reserves your seat on the aircraft, room for you in the cottage, and a seat in the boat. Please have your deposits to us within 2 weeks after you make your reservation in order to be confirmed. There are two ways You can me your credit card information. Trout Lake guests may choose between a conservation licence or a sport fishing licence. Please do your part to conserve this amazing body of water- we Booi s urge you to purchase a conservation licence. Outdoors Cards and Fishing Licence Tags We Do Not Sell Fishing Licences at the Lodge Simply purchase your licences online. Please read the information that s applicable, links will connect you to the appropriate Ministry of Natural Resources & Forests (MNRF) site. For Non- Canadian Residents, Canadian Residents & Ontario residents click here for information about your Outdoor Card & licence info. We Boois urge you to simply purchase your fishing licence online (recommended at least 6 weeks prior so you will receive your hard copy, however you can simply print the licence in advance & bring with you) If you already have an Outdoor Card and the date is valid, then a tag is all that s necessary to complete your licence. Is your card invalid? Please remember to purchase a card and a tag to make the licence valid. You can call the Outdoors Card Centre at (press 1 for English, press 1 for Outdoors Card) for more info too. For Non-Canadian, Canadian & Ontario Residents, here is the link to purchase your Ontario fishing licence & tag online. Still want to purchase your licence on the way up? Most but not all gas stations etc. sell them. Click and scroll down & enter a search for Red Lake. If purchasing along the way- search for Dryden, Vermilion Bay and Ear Falls as well. 7 2017 Fishing Regulations Note: this is a Booi Briefing and subject to change according to the Ontario Fishing Laws that govern Trout Lake and Boois own policies. If in doubt, always follow the MNRF laws. Catch Limit Freezing Fish Size Limits Bait Restrictions The number of fish that you are allowed in possession- daily- this includes your fish in the freezer, in the fridge, on your stringer and fish eaten each day are included in your daily catch limit. When travelling home you are only allowed to have your daily limit with you. If you aren t clear on this, please ask us. Each fish packaged for the freezer must be wrapped 1 fish per package, frozen flat, with a large patch of skin (at least 2 inches) left on each fillet for identification purposes. Each fish must be labelled with fish species (e.g. W for Walleye, N for Northern and L.T. for Lake Trout), have the cottage number (e.g. C #5), and the first initial and last name. (E.G. if John Smith froze a walleye and he stayed in Cottage 3, his frozen fish would be labelled- WC#3 Smith. Are the same for both sport fishing and conservation. To measure the fish accurately, measure from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail with the lobes compressed. Smelt are not allowed Pick up your copy of the 2017 Fishing Regulations at the lodge counter. Even better- You can also download a copy. Limits Species Sport Conservation Size Limits Walleye 4 2 Only 1 greater than 18 (46 cm) Lake Trout 2 1 Sept , only 1 over 22 (56 cm) Pike 4 2 No fish between (70-90 cm) and only 1 greater than 35.5 (90 cm) Booi Island Law in effect for guests, staff & all Boois, no northern pike are to be kept greater than 27 inches. All pike over this size must be released back into the waters of Trout Lake. Replica-mount trophies, which do not require the dead fish, can be made. These mounts only require a description of the trophy and a picture if you have it. Thank you for doing your part in conserving Trout Lake s trophy pike fishery. It s appreciated and noted. We highly recommend reading the 2017 Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary, which describes in detail and in full accuracy all necessary information to ensure you choose the correct licence and to gain full knowledge of all fishing rules and regulations Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary hard copies are available at Boois on the island. 9 Label Your Baggage...just simply use masking tape & a marker. Every item loaded into the plane must be labelled with --Last Name the reservation is under --Boois --You can add your own Last Name too if there s room. For example- John Doe is coming to Boois with the Smith group- he would label all his bags, boxes- whatever he brings... Smith-Boois & if he wants to add his last name...smith-boois-doe Baggage includes tackle boxes, camera bags, toiletry bags, purses, any called carry on, rod cases, reel cases, boxes of groceries, coolers, suit cases, duffel bags and every other item that is not mentioned that will be loaded into the aircraft. At Boois Island, Booi assistants unload all aircraft and deliver all your belongings to your cottage for you. 10 Commercial Flight Information to Red Lake For commercial airline reservations, we recommend calling Red Lake Travel who find economical fares and specialize in one-day travel. Call them toll free from U.S.A. or from Canada. If you are flying commercially, please Tracy and let her know your flight times. If you decide to overnight in Red Lake, please make reservations in advance. Let Tracy know where you ll be staying in case there are last minute changes to flight times and also if you need help with transportation arrangements to the plane base. (Please click to read Overnight accommodation recommendations ) Private Aircraft If you re flying your private wheeled aircraft, or your pilot s flying your company jet to the Red Lake Airport, here are the numbers for customs clearing Canpass (866) Fort Frances: Canada Customs (Local) (807) (x 240), Kenora: Canada Customs, (Local) (807) Note that you cannot clear customs at Red Lake. Directions to Superior Airways We are flying with the same airline as last year Superior Airways. The address is: 2508 Hwy. 125, Cochenour, ON P0V 1L0 When you arrive in the town of Cochenour, turn right to the wheeled airport, and then follow the Superior signs till you reach a blue building (hanger). For you convenience there is pay-for parking and a nice waiting room. The aircraft they fly is a Cessna Caravan, 9 passenger, Amphibian. This is a beautiful aircraft and is a very unique experience taking off on wheels and landing on Trout Lake And we ask that you please keep you baggage/grocery weight down to 100 lb. per person. For 2017 any baggage over your limit will be charged at $2.00 per pound. Please do not be surprised if you are charged. You must be at Superior Airways at 6:30 AM on your scheduled day of arrival, unless prior arrangements have been made with Tracy. If you have any questions, or need clarification of your flight times, please do not hesitate to call the island at 250/ or better yet- Tracy at fishing@boois.com -do not call Superior Airways. 11 Overnight Accommodations in Town The Town of Red Lake is approximately 15 minutes from the town of Balmertown. Superior Airways is approx. 5 minutes from Balmertown. Please note that all of these motels require a credit card to reserve so please go to their site or call or for prices and to make your reservations. In Red Lake Howey Bay Motel: located on Hwy. #105, 807/ , restaurant & lounge on site Norseman Inn: located on Hwy. # / Super 8: at 11 Hughes Crescent. (Please note the web site states steps from downtown Red Lake which is not accurate- it is over a mile to Red Lake but it is located next door to Tim Horton s) In Balmertown Balmer Hotel: Main St., 807/ they have a bar/lounge & a restaurant. They have a courtesy shuttle for pickups from and to airport- convenient if you are flying to Red Lake. We recommend the Balmer if you are flying to/from Red Lake. Nature s Inn: Detta Rd., 807/ , Payment Options We charge in Canadian Funds. We accept *Visa, *MasterCard and Cash for payments. When you pay using your U.S. credit card your card company converts from Canadian to US funds and charges your card in US funds. We receive the Canadian charge only. For the latest exchange rate conversions check out the link Both Visa and MasterCard are known for their current fair exchange rates. Please call your card company in advance to see if there are any fees for this conversion. You can Tracy fishing@boois.com with your questions. Please Note: It is extremely possible that when you make your payment the card company will flag your card due to unusual activity. To avoid this- we recommend that you contact your credit card company to let them know of your upcoming transactions prior to leaving the US for Canada. 12 We Can Purchase Your Groceries for You Let Boois do the work- we ll purchase your groceries for your entire stay, your snacks, and anything else you wish. If you think you might be over your 100 pound baggage per person limit, this service will really interest you for any supplies we pick up in advance for you are not included in your weight limit. There is a 30% handling fee charged that is less expensive than paying the $2.00 per pound over weight charge. Create your grocery list, it to Tracy and we ll do the rest. You do not need a form, just list the items you desire. If you need a list for ideas on what to order, just Tracy. It s not necessary to pay now; Tracy will add this to your final bill. Please do not phone in your items...thank you. Tackle for Sale at Trout Lake Visit our small tackle section in the lodge for what the fish are hitting on lure selections. Ask our advice; we ll help with your choices. We recommend that you Tracy fishing@boois.com about a week prior to your trip to see what the hot lures of the week are. Frozen Minnows for Sale On the island we sell frozen minnows. Guests like the convenience of use, how long they last (keep refreezing) how inexpensive compared to live and importantly the amount of fish folks catch using them. If you d like to fish with night crawlers, we recommend you bring those with you across the border in artificial bedding; we also recommend if you like to fish with leeches- simply purchase them once you arrive in Canada. Ship Your Items in Advance You can ship your items in advance directly to the air base. This is a great idea if you are flying commercially with a 40 lb. weight restriction.
