Last year the tournament earned the prestigious President s Award, signifying the Champions Tour s top event in The official-money schedule features 26 events, concluding with the Charles Schwab Cup Championship (October 28-November 3) at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. Here are some highlights from the current season: John Cook opened the 2013 season with a playoff win at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, ending a victory drought of just over 17 months. Cook did not make a bogey during the week, a first on the Champions Tour since Fred Funk did so in winning the 2012 Greater Hickory Classic at Rock Barn. Rocco Mediate becomes the 16th player to win his Champions Tour debut when he wins the Allianz Championship in February. Bernhard Langer (The ACE Group Classic) and David Frost (Toshiba Classic) go wire to wire in successive weeks, a first since 2004 Craig Stadler (SAS Championship) and Wayne Levi (Constellation Energy Classic). Japan s Kohki Idoki s first trip to the United States is a memorable one. He wins the Senior PGA Championship at Bellerive CC in St. Louis in May. Esteban Toledo, a native of Mexico, wins his first Champions Tour title when he claims the Insperity Championship on Cinco de Mayo. He is the first Mexican-born player to win on Tour. Hall of Famers Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player team up together in the Demaret Division at the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf.

2 Fred Couples and Colin Montgomerie are inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in May. Montgomerie makes his Champions Tour debut at the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship and finishes T9 at Fox Chapel Golf Club near Pittsburgh. Craig Stadler wins the inaugural Encompass Championship near Chicago. He wins his ninth career title on the Champions Tour and ends a victory drought of 8 years, 8 months and 28 days, breaking the Champions Tour s all-time mark for longest time between victories. (J.C. Snead previously held the record of 6 years, 11 months, 7 days (1995 Ford Senior Players Championship-2002 Greater Baltimore Classic). Stadler also becomes the 21 st winner over the age of 60 in Champions Tour history and the first since Bob Gilder won the 2011 Principal Charity Classic. Kenny Perry becomes the second player in the last four years to win consecutive major championships (Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS, U.S. Senior Open) and the third player in that span to claim multiple majors in a season, joining Roger Chapman last year and Bernhard Langer who in 2010 claimed the Senior British Open and U.S. Senior Open in consecutive weeks. Jay Don Blake qualifies for the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion (74-80, missed cut). In addition to Khoki Idoki (Senior PGA Championship), both David Frost (Regions Tradition) and Mark Wiebe (Senior British Open) claim the first major championships of their careers. Tom Kite makes his first ace on the Champions Tour, and it comes on his 17,674th shot on Tour. The PGA TOUR and its tournaments donated more than $130 million to charity in 2012, bringing the all-time charitable contributions total to over $1.9 billion. DICK S HISTORY: The year was Eighteen-year-old Dick Stack was an energetic salesman at a small Army and Navy store in Binghamton, New York. One day, the store owner asked Dick, an avid fisherman, if it would be a good idea to sell fishing gear in his shop. Dick offered to develop a plan. After working tirelessly on a business plan over a succession of sleepless nights, Dick nervously approached the owner with his vision. The response was stinging. Dumbfounded, Dick was told that he didn t know what he was doing and would never make a good merchant. That evening, frustrated and dejected, Dick retreated to his grandmother s home. She listened quietly as he recounted his story. When he had finished, she rose silently and went to the kitchen. Removing the lid from her cookie jar, she extracted $300 of her hard-earned savings and pressed the bills into Dick s hand. Dick, always follow your dreams, she advised. With his grandmother s $300, Dick opened a modest bait and tackle shop in Binghamton. By 1958, at the urging of his loyal customers, he expanded his product line to include much of what you ll find at Dick s Sporting Goods today. Now with over 450 stores, Dick s family continues to offer the finest quality products at competitive prices, backed by the best service anywhere. Like you, we have a real passion for sports and are excited to bring the enthusiasm and experience to the online community TOURNAMENT RECAP: Willie Wood holed a clutch 35-foot birdie putt on the last hole of regulation to force a playoff with Michael Allen and then won his first title on the Champions Tour when Allen s drive on the first extra hole found the water left of the 18 th fairway. For Wood, it was his first victory on TOUR in 16 years, 29 days (Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic) and he became the first open qualifier to win since Rod Spittle at the 2010 AT&T Championship. It was the first playoff in the history of the Dick s Sporting Goods Open. ABOUT EN-JOIE: En-Joie was the first corporate-built golf course in the country. It was originally constructed for the employees of Endicott Johnson, at the time, one of America s largest shoe manufacturers, with more than 1,000 workers in the Endicott area. Originally opened in 1929, En-Joie was completely re-designed due to the flooding which had occurred over the years. The course was originally built on an apple orchard, however, no apple trees remain on the course today. The course served as the venue for the PGA TOUR s B.C. Open from A total of 13 TOUR players earned their first career wins at the B.C. Open, starting in 1974 when Richie Karl captured the event. R.W. Eaks won his first career title on the Champions Tour at En-Joie, claiming the inaugural Dick s Sporting Goods Open in Both John Huston (2011) and Willie Wood (2012) claimed their first Champions Tour titles at En-Joie. CHARLES SCHWAB CUP: The Charles Schwab Cup is currently in its 13 th year. Designed to recognize the Champions Tour s leading player, the Schwab Cup is a season-long bonus-points competition. Players receive points for top-10 finishes at 25 of the 26 official events. All 30 players receive points at the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship. Point are based on each week s money distribution, with $1,000 earned being the equivalent of one Schwab Cup point (points are doubled at the five major championships during the

3 year as well as the season-ending Schwab Cup Championship). The program offers $2.1 million in taxdeferred annuity payouts to the top-five finishers, with the winner receiving a $1-million annuity. Kenny Perry s victories in back-to-back majors recently have given him a sizeable lead through the 3M Championship. Perry leads Bernhard Langer by 848 points with 10 events left on the schedule. Tom Lehman, the 2011 and 2012 Schwab Cup champion, is currently in 21st place in the season-long race. This week s winner will receive 270 points. KEY STORYLINES WHO IS THE 1,000 TH WINNER?: A historic milestone will be reached at this year s Dick s Sporting Goods Open with the winner of this event becoming the 1,000 th in Champions Tour history. Don January claimed the first official title in 1980, the Atlantic City Senior International. Hale Irwin became the Champions Tour s 500 th winner when he won 1997 Burnet Senior Classic, the ninth of his 45 career victories. WHO IS THE FIRST TO THREE?: Thus far in 2013, there have been 12 different winners of the 15 official stroke-play events with Bernhard Langer (ACE Group Classic, Greater Gwinnett Championship), David Frost (Toshiba Classic, Regions Tradition) and Kenny Perry (Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship, U.S. Senior Open) each winning two titles. Last year, eight players, including Player of the Year Tom Lehman, won twice. It marked the first time since the 1980 season that no player on the Champions Tour won at least three times during the campaign. John Cook and Tom Lehman are the last two players with three wins in a season, each claiming three victories during the 2011 campaign. STRONG FIELD COMING TO ENDICOTT : This year s Dick s Sporting Goods Open field will feature 28 of the top 30 on last year s money list and a quarter of the field has at least one major championship on their resume (17 players). In addition, four members of the World Golf Hall of Fame (Tom Kite, Bernhard Langer, Colin Montgomerie, Nick Price) will be in playing in the event. WOOD DEFENDS DSGO TITLE Willie Wood is seeking to become the first player since Tom Lehman (2012 Regions Tradition) to defend a title on the Champions Tour. John Huston, the 2011 Dick s Sporting Goods Open winner, had a good chance to win back-to-back titles last year but faded on the final day and finished T21. Huston was the 36-hole leader in the 2012 event. The closest a player has come to defending at the Dick s Sporting Goods Open was 2009 when Eduardo Romero finished T15 the year after claiming the Dick s title. Wood s only title defense on the PGA TOUR came at the 1997 Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic and he missed the cut. BROOME COUNTY CHARITIES -- The Dick s Sporting Goods Open is operated by Broome County Community Charities, Inc. (BCCC) and has donated over $11.6 million back to charity since its inception in Not only has BCCC been the sponsoring organization of professional golf in the area for the past 41 years, but BCCC is also involved in providing funds for scholarships, providing leadership and funds to build such things as a community meeting hall, remodeling the Boys and Girls Club and Community Center, and particularly funding a multitude of health related programs throughout the southern tier region of New York State. On the Champions Tour, Sluman has won all four of his stroke-play titles during this just over two-month period on the calendar each summer. TOURNAMENT NOTES HOW THE LEADERS HAVE FARED: In the six-year history of the Dick s Sporting Goods Open, John Huston (2011) is the only first-round leader/co-leader to go on and win. Two of the second-round leaders/co-leaders have gone on to win this event R.W. Eaks (2007) and Eduardo Romero (2008).

5 WHERE ARE THE ACES?: In the six-year history of the Dick s Sporting Goods Open, R.W. Eaks has made the only hole-in-one. In the second round of the inaugural event in 2007, Eaks aced the 197-yard, par-3, seventh hole with a 5-iron shot and went on to win, becoming the first player since Tom Purtzer at the M Championship to make an ace and go on to win the tournament. FIRST TITLES: Three of the six previous winners of this event claimed their initial victories on the Champions Tour at En-Joie Golf Course -- R.W. Eaks (2007), John Huston (2011), Willie Wood (2013). GOING LOW TO WIN AT EN-JOIE: R.W. Eaks (2007) is the only past champion of the Dick s Sporting Goods Open that opened with a round in the 70s. Eaks shot 71 on Friday, but eventually rallied to claim the inaugural event by three strokes. Eduardo Romero, the 2008 champion, has the highest final-round score by a winner. Romero shot 69 on Sunday at En-Joie and won by one stroke over Fulton Allem and Gary Koch. The Dicks tournament winner has shot 65 on Sunday in two of the last three years and the average Sunday score by the eventual champion is OLDEST, YOUNGEST: R.W. Eaks, the 2007 champion, is the oldest winner in tournament history at 55 years, 1 month, 24 days of age. John Huston, the defending champion, is the youngest winner of the Dick s Sporting Goods Open, claiming last year s title just 25 days after turning 50. STADS HISTORIC FEAT: In 2003, Craig Stadler made history at En-Joie Golf Course when he became the first Champions Tour player to win a PGA TOUR event, a one-stroke victory at the old B.C. Open. Stadler used a final-round, 9-under-par 63 to make up eight strokes (largest comeback in tournament history) and defeat both Steve Lowery and Alex Cejka by one stroke. Stadler s victory in upstate New York made him just the second of three players in history to win a PGA TOUR and Champions Tour event in the same year (Raymond Floyd, Fred Funk). Earlier in the 2003 season, Stadler triumped at the Ford Senior Players Championship, his initial victory on the Champions Tour. It was his second win in the tournament and his 11-under-par 269 broke a 30-year-old tournament mark set in 1964 by Bobby Nichols (271). 8/14/77 For the first time ever, a major championship was decided in sudden death when Lanny Wadkins made a six-foot par putt to defeat Gene Littler on the third extra hole at the PGA Championship at Pebble Beach. Wadkins began the final day six behind Littler and was still five back at the turn despite a pair of eagles on the front nine. Littler bogeyed five of the first six holes on the back allowing Jack Nicklaus to tie him at No. 15. Trailing by just one at that point, Wadkins only birdie of the day at No. 18 would help set up the playoff after Nicklaus bogeyed No. 17 to fall one back. 8/14/83 -- Trailing Isao Aoki by three strokes heading into the final round, Wayne Levi plays a flawless final round which featured seven birdies and no bogeys and his closing-round 65 gave him a one stroke win over Aoki and Calvin Peete at the Buick Open in Michigan. 8/14/88 Turning in one of the best closing-round efforts in tournament history, Jeff Sluman comes from three strokes back to win his first PGA TOUR title, the PGA Championship at Oak Tree GC in Edmond, OK. Trailing third-round leader Paul Azinger by three strokes after 54 holes, Sluman shoots a final-round 6-under-par 65 and pulls away for a three-stroke win. 8/15/93 Paul Azinger shoots a final-round 68 at the PGA Championship to tie Greg Norman and then makes par on the second playoff hole to win his first major title at Inverness. 8/15/76 Six years after winning his first PGA Championship, Dave Stockton added a second when he defeated Raymond Floyd and Don January by one stroke at Congressional CC. 8/15/03 Dave Stockton ties a 54-hole Champions Tour record for largest margin of victory when he cruises to a nine-stroke win at the Franklin Quest Championship in Park City, UT. Stockton closes with a 9-under-par 63 in the victory. 8/16/70 Dave Stockton shot a final-round 73, but was still able to hold off Arnold Palmer and Bob Murphy to win the PGA Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa. 8/16/92 Nick Price made critical birdies on the 16 th (25-feet) and 17 th (12-feet) holes in the final round to hold off a quartet of players, including Nick Faldo, John Cook, Gene Sauers and Jim Gallagher, Jr., by three strokes at the PGA Championship at Bellerive CC in St. Louis. Sauers had led the event for 59 holes before playing a six-hole stretch at 5-over-par. 8/16/03 Jim Thorpe ties a Champions Tour record when he shoots a 10-under-par 60 in the second round of the Long Island Classic. Thorpe would follow up with a 67 on Sunday 8/17/69 Despite a closing-round 74, Raymond Floyd prevails by one stroke over Gary Player to win the PGA Championship at the NCR CC in Dayton. 8/18/85 Ken Green posts four straight rounds in the 60s and goes on to a four-stroke win at the Buick Open over Wayne Grady for his first PGA TOUR victory. His tournament scorecard includes 25 birdies.
