CHAMPIONS TOUR s 30 th ANNIVERSARY: The 2009 season marks the 30 th anniversary of the PGA TOUR s Champions Tour. This year s Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf is the eighth of 25 official events on the Champions Tour schedule in The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf is also the eighth of 25 Charles Schwab Cup events this year, concluding with the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, October 29- November 1. Total official prize money on the Champions Tour in 2009 will be $48.9 million, with the highest average purse ever ($1.96 million per official event). The Champions Tour started in 1980 with four events and total official prize money was

$475,000. THE ROAD TO THE CHARLES SCHWAB CUP: The Charles Schwab Cup, now in its ninth year, is designed to recognize the Champions Tour s leading player. The seasonlong bonus-points competition rewards players for top-10 finishes at all 25 official events based on each week s money distribution. For example, $1,000 earned would be the equivalent of one Schwab Cup point (points are doubled at the five major championships during the year and also at the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship). The program offers $2.1 million in payouts to the five leading performers, with the winner receiving $1 million. Jay Haas captured his second Charles Schwab Cup last year, holding off Fred Funk by just 12 points in the closest race ever. In 2006, Haas held off Loren Roberts by only 20 points for his first Charles Schwab Cup. Roberts turned the tables on Haas in 2007, besting him for the Schwab Cup by just 165 points. Other winners of the Schwab Cup include: Allen Doyle (2001), Hale Irwin (2002, 2004) and Tom Watson (2003, 2005). TITLE SPONSOR: Since 1912, Liberty Mutual has been committed to providing broad, useful and competitively-priced insurance products and services to meet customers ever-changing needs. Liberty Mutual is the 6th largest P&C insurance company in the United States and has earned an A.M. Best Co. A (Excellent) rating. Liberty Mutual Group offers a wide range of insurance products and services, including personal automobile, homeowners, workers compensation, commercial multiple peril, commercial automobile, general liability, global specialty, group disability, assumed reinsurance, fire and surety. Liberty Mutual Group employs over 39,000 people in more than 900 offices throughout the world. TOURNAMENT HISTORY: This year will be the 32nd Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf and the 30 th anniversary for Liberty Mutual as the title sponsor of the event, the longest-running on the Champions Tour. This tournament is also the second oldest in senior golf with only the 70-year-old Senior PGA Championship exceeding it in longevity. The first Legends of Golf event was contested at Onion Creek Country Club in 1978, two years before the start of the Champions Tour, as an unofficial team event and two years prior to Liberty Mutual s title sponsorship of the tournament. This event is credited with helping spawn what is now known as the Champions Tour. Its $400,000 purse in 1978 was the largest in professional golf at the time. The winners of the first event were Sam Snead and Gardner Dickinson, who prevailed by a stroke over Peter Thomson and Kel Nagle in the team better-ball format. In the 1979 Legends event, people started talking when Art Wall and Tommy Bolt made five birdies in a playoff only to be matched by five birdies from the team of Julius Boros and Roberto DeVicenzo. Boros and De Vicenzo finally prevailed that year by making birdie on the sixth extra hole. The real winner, however, was the formation of the Senior PGA Tour, now known as the Champions Tour. The Legends Division remained an unofficial team event through 2001 with the exception of 1993 when it was contested as a stroke-play event. However in 2002, the Legends Division became an official stroke-play tournament and was played under that format through In 2008, the Legends Division reverted back to a team better-ball format but with official money for the first time. The tournament added a Legendary Division in 1987 (later

changed to the Raphael Division in 2002) and a Demaret Division in 1993 (players 70- plus). Both of those remain unofficial events and award unofficial money. A LOOK BACK AT 2008: Tom Watson and Andy North survived a late run from the team of Craig Stadler and Jeff Sluman but went on to prevail by one stroke in the better-ball team format, the first time it s been a team event with official money. Stadler and Sluman, playing one hole ahead of Watson and North, pulled even several times on the back nine only to have Watson and North regain the lead. Watson finally sealed the deal with an 18-foot birdie putt on No. 17. For North, the victory was his first official title since the 1985 U.S. Open at Oakland Hills. LIBERTY MUTUAL LEGENDS OF GOLF STORYLINES UNIQUE TEAM FORMAT MAKES EVENT SPECIAL: The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Legends Division will again be a full team, better-ball competition and the Legends Division will again be played for official money. The winning team will again receive a one-year exemption into all Champions Tour events with the exception of the major championships. The Raphael and Demaret Divisions will remain as they were previously, unofficial team events. The Raphael Division competition is a 36-hole, twoman better-ball event playing for unofficial money. The Demaret Division (players 70+) will also be a 36-hole better-ball competition and will play on Monday and Tuesday of tournament week. LEHMAN TO DEBUT: Tom Lehman will make his first appearance on the Champions Tour at this year s Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, teaming with good friend Bernhard Langer in the Legends Division. Lehman turned 50 on March 7, but he has been busy with a full slate of PGA TOUR events leading up to this week. At the Transitions Championship near Tampa in mid-march, Lehman held the 54-hole lead in the tournament and eventually finished T8 at Innisbrook Resort. OTHER NEW FACES AT THIS YEAR S LEGENDS: In addition to Tom Lehman, several other Champions Tour players will make their first appearances in this year s Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf. Among the first-timers in this year s field are: World Golf Hall of Fame member Greg Norman (Keith Fergus), Larry Mize and Blaine McCallister (will compete as a team), Dan Forsman (Tom Purtzer), Mike Goodes (D.A. Weibring) and Ken Green (Mike Reid). CAN WATSON/NORTH CONTINUE SUCCESS?: After three successive titles in the unofficial Raphael Division and an official victory last year in the Legends Division, Andy North and Tom Watson look to continue their success in the tournament when they defend their title this year. North and Watson have gone a remarkable 162 consecutive holes without making a bogey dating back to Last year, North and Watson became the ninth team to go wire-to-wire in this event. North also led start to finish with Jim Colbert in both 2000 and This year, the duo looks to become the sixth team to defend a title Don January/Gene Littler ( ), Bruce Crampton/Orville Moody ( ), Lee Trevino/Mike Hill ( , ), Jim Colbert/Andy North ( ).

STAR-STUDDED FIELD ON TAP: A total of 14 members of the World Golf Hall of Fame will play in the three different divisions at this year s Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf. Among those Hall of Famers committed are Billy Casper, Bob Charles, Ben Crenshaw, Hubert Green, Tony Jacklin, Tom Kite, Gene Littler, Bernhard Langer, Larry Nelson, Greg Norman, Gary Player, Nick Price, Lee Trevino and Tom Watson. Also, 38 different winners of major championships on the PGA TOUR with a grand total of 75 major victories will compete in this year s Legends event in Savannah. COLLEGE TEAMMATES PAIR UP: A pair of former college teammates will pair up in the Legends Division at this year s Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf. Former Ohio State Buckeyes Joey Sindelar and John Cook will team up. Cook and Sindelar helped OSU to the 1979 NCAA crown. Also joining forces in the Raphael Division will be Bruce Lietzke and Bill Rogers, a pair of University of Houston products. They were members of the Cougar squad which finished second at the 1973 NCAA Championship. Another member of that team was Keith Fergus, who will play in the Legends Division with Greg Norman. FIELD INCLUDES OTHER INTERESTING PAIRINGS: In addition to the pairing of former college teammates, other interesting pairings include brothers Bobby and Lanny Wadkins, brothers-in-law Gary Player and Bob Charles, former Masters champions Ian Woosnam/Sandy Lyle as well as former European Tour competitors Mark James and Des Smyth and former British Open winners Nick Price and Mark O Meara. Jay Haas will team up with Ben Crenshaw. Haas original partner, Curtis Strange withdrew prior to the event. TEAM COMPETITION NOTHING NEW FOR PLAYERS: While official team events are rare on the Champions Tour, many of the competitors in this year s event are veterans of Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup team competition, as well as the Walt Disney World National Team Championship, which was staged in Orlando from as an official team event. Here is a list of former winners of that event: 1974: Hubert Green/Mac McLendon; 1975: Jim Colbert/Dean Refram; 1976: Bill Kratzert/Woody Blackburn; 1977: Gibby Gilbert/Grier Jones; 1978: Wayne Levi/Bob Mann; 1979: George Burns/Ben Crenshaw; 1980: Danny Edwards/David Edwards; 1981: Vance Heafner/Mike Holland. In fact, one of the teams in this year s Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf competition Lanny and Bobby Wadkins finished second at the 1978 Walt Disney World National Team Championship, finishing three strokes behind the team of Levi and Mann. BLACK KNIGHT IS BACK: Gary Player, one of only five players in golf history to win all four major championships on the PGA TOUR, is scheduled to appear in this event for the first time since The 73-year-old World Golf Hall of Fame member will team with Bob Charles in the Demaret Division this year. Player teamed with Charles to finish T2 in the Raphael Division competition in 2000 and also teamed with Jack Nicklaus to finish T2 in the Legends Division in LEE TREVINO/MIKE HILL TEAMING UP AGAIN: The duo of Lee Trevino and Mike

Hill, winners of four Legends Division titles and one Raphael Division title, will be back again seeking a sixth title in this event. The pair scored wins in the Legends Division in 1991 and 1992 and again in 1995 and In addition their victory in the Raphael Division came in GEORGIA ON MY MIND: A number of players in this year s Legends Division at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf have ties to the state of Georgia. Larry Mize, who now resides in Columbus, lived on Wilmington Island from Larry Nelson and Tim Simpson, both from Atlanta, won Georgia Opens at the old Sheraton Savannah Golf & CC. Nelson claimed the 1978 event while Simpson won there in 1980, 1981, 1984 and Jim Dent hails from Augusta, Andy Bean from Lafayette and Jerry Pate was born in Macon. Allen Doyle lives in LaGrange. LIBERTY MUTUAL LEGENDS TOURNAMENT NOTES FORD S PLAYED THEM ALL: Doug Ford is the only player in the field who appeared in the first Legends of Golf in This year, he will make his 32nd consecutive appearance in the event, teaming with Billy Maxwell in the Demaret Division competition. Ford won 19 PGA TOUR events in his career, including the 1955 PGA Championship and 1957 Masters. SAVANNAH GOLF HISTORY: Many historians contend that golf in America started in Savannah with the establishment of the Savannah Golf Club in Evidence suggests the course was viewed by George and Martha Washington, John Adams and French general Lafayette. TOURNAMENT HOLES-IN-ONE: There have been eight holes-in-one in tournament history. Last year, David Edwards made the first hole-in-one since Chi Chi Rodriguez made an ace in the 1993 event at Barton Creek near Austin. Other players making a hole-in-one in this event: Tom Nieporte (1984), Dale Douglass (1986), Billy Casper (1989), Charlie Sifford (1989), Charles Coody (1990) and Tommy Jacobs (1991). MRs. 59: Tom Watson and Andy North shot 13-under 59 in the opening round of last year s Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf. Their score was the lowest posted by a team since Jim Colbert/Andy North shot 59 in the first round of the 2001 event. The best 18-hole team, better-ball score in event history came in the final round of the 1991 event when Al Geiberger/Harold Henning shot 14-under 58 at Barton Creek in Austin. NOT LOW ENOUGH: The team of Jeff Sluman/Craig Stadler posted a three-round score of 30-under 186 last year yet still came up one stroke short of Andy North/Tom Watson. Sluman/Stadler s total is the lowest recorded over three days that didn t win in the Legends Division since the team, better-ball competition was reduced from 72 to 54 holes beginning in The previous low 54-hole score by non-winners was in 1994 when both Jim Colbert/Bob Murphy and Jim Dent/Chi Chi Rodriguez shot 27-under-par 189 yet still finished one stroke back of Charles Coody/Dale Douglass.

START TO FINISH: Wire-to-wire winners have been rather common in the Legends Division team competition at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf. Last year s wire-towire victory by Tom Watson and Andy North made them the ninth duo in event history to lead throughout the event. North also went wire-to-wire with Jim Colbert in the Legends Division competition in both 2000 and Other teams to lead wire-towire include: Hubert Green/Gil Morgan (1999), John Bland/Graham Marsh (1997), Charles Coody/Dale Douglass (1994, 1990), Al Geiberger/Harold Henning (1989), Don January/Sam Snead (1982). In the 24 years the Legends Division has been a team, better-ball competition, leaders/co-leaders going into the final round have won 17 times including the last four occasions. CLOSING FAST: Gary Koch/Roger Maltbie shot 60 on the final day of the Raphael Division competition last year. The 12-under-par round enabled the duo to come from eight strokes back and win their second Raphael Division title. It was the largest comefrom-behind win in the history of that division and the 60 was the best finish by a winning team. Koch/Maltbie shot a final-round 68 in 2003, the highest-ever finish by winners of the Raphael Division. THE TRIFECTA: When they won the Demaret Division title in 2001, the team of Don January and Gene Littler became the first and, to date, only team to claim all three divisions of the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf. January/Littler originally won the Legends Division in 1985/1986 and then won the Raphael Division competition in They also claimed a second Demaret Division crown in Charles Coody/Dale Douglass will have an opportunity to become the second team to win all three Legends titles when they tee it up for the second time in the Demaret Division competition. The duo won the Legends Division in 1990, 1994 and 1998 and claimed the Legendary (Raphael) Division competition in Last year, in their first venture into the Demaret Division, Coody/Douglass finished T2, fives srokes back of Al Geiberger/Jimmy Powell. EIGHTH VENUE: This year s tournament will once again be played at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa, the eighth different venue in the 31-year history of the event. The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf was played at Onion Creek in Austin, TX, from and then moved across town to Barton Creek CC from The event relocated to the Palm Springs, CA, area from , playing the first two years at PGA West (Stadium), before moving to PGA West s Palmer Course in The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf then moved for one year to Amelia Island in Florida for the 1998 event before relocating to the World Golf Village near St. Augustine, FL, from The Slammer & Squire course hosted the tournament in 1999 and 2000 before it moved to the nearby King & Bear course for the 2001 and 2002 event. In a bit of irony, two of Sam Snead s collaborations have been the site of the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf the Slammer & Squire layout at World Golf Village as well as the current Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa. TOM TERRIFIC: Tom Watson s victory with Andy North at last year s Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf came on the heels of his triumph a week earlier at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am. Before Watson s feat in 2008, the last time a player won the

Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf and also claimed the event the week prior was Lee Trevino in 1992 when he won the Senior PGA Championship at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, FL and then teamed with Mike Hill for a three-stroke victory over Tommy Aaron and Jim Colbert at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf at Barton Creek CC in Austin, TX. IT HAPPENED ON THIS DATE 4/20/97 After four straight rounds in the 60s, Nick Price rolls to a six-stroke win over Jesper Parnevik and Brad Faxon at the MCI Classic in South Carolina for his 16 th PGA TOUR victory. 4/20/97 Hale Irwin defends his PGA Seniors Championship title by the biggest margin in Champions Tour history in a 72-hole event 12 strokes. 4/21/63 Bob Charles becomes the first left-hander to win a PGA TOUR event when he beats Fred Hawkins by one stroke at the Houston Classic. 4/21/85 One week after winning at Augusta, Bernhard Langer defeats Bobby Wadkins in a one-hole playoff when he makes par at the Sea Pines Heritage Classic. In the process he becomes last man to win the Masters and the event afterward. 4/21/96 With just one bogey over his final 36 holes, Loren Roberts defeats Mark O Meara by three strokes to win the MCI Classic in Hilton Head, SC. Roberts helps his cause with an 8-under-par 63 in the third round which included five straight birdies to start his round. His 72-hole score of 265 broke Hale Irwin s tournament record by one stroke. 4/21/92 Lee Trevino captures his first Senior PGA Championship when he makes par-saving putts on Nos. 17 and 18 to defeat Mike Hill by one stroke at PGA National. He becomes the 10 th player to win a PGA and Senior PGA Championship 4/22/73 Florida State product Hubert Green wins one at home. Green holds off Jim Simons by one stroke to win the Tallahassee Open for the second of his 19 PGA TOUR titles. 4/23/78 Gary Player makes it three straight wins, claiming the Houston Open title by one stroke over Andy Bean. Player opens with an 8-under 64 and closes out his win with a final-round 3-under-par 69. The win would be the last of 24 titles on the PGA TOUR for Player. 4/24/83 Despite an even-par 72 in his final round and bogeys on Nos. 16 and 17, Lanny Wadkins successfully defends his MONY Tournament of Champions title at LaCosta by one stroke over Raymond Floyd. 4/25/04 When Hale Irwin wins the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, he wins at least one event for 10 straight years, breaking his tie with Miller Barber for most consecutive years with at least one win. 4/26/81 Two weeks removed from his Masters victory, Tom Watson wins the USF&G Classic by two strokes over Bruce Fleisher in New Orleans. He helps his cause with a third-round 64 which got him back into contention. 4/26/98 Hale Irwin successfully defends his title at the Las Vegas Senior Classic.
