The 2012 Champions Tour: This year marks the 33rd anniversary of the PGA TOUR s Champions Tour, and the Liberty Mutual Insurance is the seventh of 23 official events on the 2012 schedule. The official season concludes with the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, October 29-November 4, at Cochise Course at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, AZ. The Champions Tour s primary purpose is to provide significant competitive and earnings opportunities for players age 50 and older, to protect the integrity of the game and to help grow the reach of the game in the U.S. and around the world Tournament Recaps: Kenny Perry and Scott Hoch both missed short par putts on the second playoff hole, handing the Legends Division title to Mark McNulty/David Eger. McNulty and Eger teamed for a final-round, 11-under 61 to post a 27-under-par score, but Perry almost holed a birdie putt on the final hole of regulation that would have won them the tournament outright, lipping out from 25 feet. After both teams made par on the first extra hole, all four players missed the 18th green with their approach shots on the second playoff hole. McNulty first saved his par from just left of the green, chipping to within 3 feet of the hole and converting the par save. Hoch then missed his par bid from the same distance. Just when it looked as if the playoff would be extended to a third extra hole, Perry pulled his putt from 3 feet, giving McNulty and Eger the win. In the Raphael Division, Mark

2 James and Des Smyth were one-stroke victors over the team of Gary Koch and Roger Maltbie and Ben Crenshaw and Curtis Strange, while Gibby Gilbert and J.C. Snead, making their first appearance in the Demaret Division, ran away for a five-shot victory. History of the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf: This year will be the 35th Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf and the 33rd anniversary for Liberty Mutual Insurance as the title sponsor of the event, the longest-running sponsor on any of the PGA TOUR s three competitive Tours. This tournament is also the second oldest in senior golf, with only the 73-year-old Senior PGA Championship exceeding it in longevity. The first Legends of Golf event was contested at Onion Creek Country Club in Austin, TX, in 1978, two years before the start of the Champions Tour, as an unofficial team event and two years prior to Liberty Mutual s title sponsorship of the tournament. This event is credited with helping spawn what is now known as the Champions Tour. Its $400,000 purse in 1978 was the largest in professional golf at the time. The winners of the first tournament were Sam Snead and Gardner Dickinson, who prevailed by a stroke over Peter Thomson and Kel Nagle in the team, better-ball format. In the 1979 Legends event, people started talking when Art Wall and Tommy Bolt made five birdies in a playoff only to be matched by five birdies from the team of Julius Boros and Roberto De Vicenzo. Boros and De Vicenzo finally prevailed that year by making birdie on the sixth extra hole. That led to the formation of the Senior PGA Tour, now known as the Champions Tour. The Legends Division remained an unofficial team event through 2001 with the exception of 1993 when it was contested as a stroke-play tournament. However in 2002, the Legends Division became an official stroke-play tournament and was played under that format through In 2008, the Legends Division reverted back to a team, better-ball format but with official money for the first time. The tournament added a Legendary Division in 1987 (later changed to the Raphael Division in 2002; named for early tournament promoter Fred Raphael) and a Demaret Division in 1993 (players 70-plus named for World Golf Hall of Fame member Jimmy Demaret). Both of those remain unofficial events and award unofficial money. Savannah is the fifth home of the tournament. It was played in Austin, TX, from (Onion Creek Country Club and Barton Creek Country Club) before a three-year run in La Quinta, CA, from After a year at the Golf Club of Amelia Island (1998) in Amelia Island, FL, it moved to St. Augustine, FL, in 1999 where it remained until moving to Savannah in It was hosted by The Slammer and Squire at World Golf Village in 1999 and 2000 and then at The King and Bear in 2001 and LIBERTY MUTUAL INSURANCE LEGENDS OF GOLF TOURNAMENT NOTES: The 2012 Field Includes 16 World Golf Hall of Famers: This year s fields will include 15 members of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Seven of those players will compete in the Legends Division (Hubert Green, Hale Irwin, Lanny Wadkins, Larry Nelson, Bernhard Langer, Tom Watson and Tom Kite). The Raphael Division will include teammates Ben Crenshaw and Curtis Strange. The Hall of Famers in the Demaret Division include Billy Casper, Gary Player, Charlie Sifford, Doug Ford, Gene Littler and Lee Trevino. Also competing in the Legends Division is Sandy Lyle, who will be inducted in the World Golf Hall of Fame in May. Hall of Famer Ford Has Played in All 35 of These: World Golf Hall of Famer Doug Ford holds the unique distinction of being the only player to have competed in all 35 Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf since its inception in The 89-year-old Ford will team with Billy Maxwell in the Demaret Division competition slated for Monday and Tuesday (April 16-17). Ford won 19 PGA TOUR events in his career, including the 1955 PGA Championship and 1957 Masters. Last Three Winners Have Come From Behind: When David Eger and Mark McNulty came from four strokes back to win the Legends Division in a playoff in 2011, it equaled the biggest come-from-behind win in the long history of this event and it was also the third straight year the winners had come from behind. In 1979, the event that put senior golf on the map, Roberto DeVicenzo and Julius Boros forced a sudden-death playoff with Tommy Bolt and Art Wall, coming from four strokes back with birdies on the last two holes of regulation. The playoff resulted in one par and five birdies over six holes,with De

3 Vicenzo and Boros eventually prevailing. Will There be a 4 th Straight Playoff?: Last year s playoff was also the third consecutive in the Legends Division at the Westin Savannah Harbor Resort & Spa, and all have gone two holes. Prior to the return to the team, better-ball format in 2008, the Legends Division had only three playoffs, from Trio of New Faces to Compete at 2012 Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf: Three new players will make their debuts in the event. Those players competing for the first time are Steve Pate (with Olin Browne), John Huston (with Jim Gallagher, Jr.), and Brad Faxon (with Jeff Sluman). Star-Studded Field on Tap: This year s Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf field will include 43 players in all three divisions who have won major championships on the PGA TOUR. In the Legends Division, there will be 22 former major winners, while there are 15 in the Demaret Division field. The other six major winners will compete in the Raphael Division. Former Ryder Cup Captains to Participate: With this being a Ryder Cup year, there are 11 former United States Ryder Cup captains slated to play, as well as a pair of European captains. The U.S. group includes, Dow Finsterwald (1977), Billy Casper (1979), Lee Trevino (1985), Tom Watson (1993), Lanny Wadkins (1995), Tom Kite (1997), Ben Crenshaw (1999), Curtis Strange (2002), Hal Sutton (2004), Tom Lehman (2006) and Corey Pavin (2010). The European captains are Mark James (1999) and Bernhard Langer (2004). In addition to former Ryder Cup captains, the field also includes former U.S. Presidents Cup captains Hale Irwin and Fred Couples and International captain Gary Player. 12th Season of Charles Schwab Cup Rolls Along: The 2012 season once again features the Charles Schwab Cup race, the 12 th consecutive year players will compete for the coveted crown and $1-million annuity that is awarded to the winner. The Charles Schwab Corporation has been a sponsor on the Champions Tour since 2001 and annually awards $2.1 million in tax-deferred annuities to the top-five finishers in the season-long point s race. Tom Lehman won the 2011 title by just 74 points over Mark Calcavecchia. Peter Senior, Jay Don Blake and John Cook rounded out the top five finishers. Designed to recognize the Tour s leading player, all top-10 finishers earn points each week with one points awarded for each $1,000 won ($230,000 equals 230 points). Players are awarded double points in each of the season s five major championships, as well as at the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship at the Cochise Course at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, AZ, November 1-4. Through the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic, Bernhard Langer leads the race with 387 points, seven better than Michael Allen. Dan Forsman is third with 307 points followed by Fred Couples (288) and Corey Pavin (270). Team Competition Nothing New for Players: While official team events are rare on the Champions Tour, many of the competitors in this year s event are veterans of Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup team competition, as well as the Walt Disney World National Team Championship, which was staged in Orlando from as an official team event. Here is a list of former winners of that event: 1974: Hubert Green/Mac McLendon; 1975: Jim Colbert/Dean Refram; 1976: Bill Kratzert/Woody Blackburn; 1977: Gibby Gilbert/Grier Jones; 1978: Wayne Levi/Bob Mann; 1979: George Burns/Ben Crenshaw; 1980: Danny Edwards/David Edwards; 1981: Vance Heafner/Mike Holland. Savannah Golf History: Many historians contend that golf in America started in Savannah, with the establishment of the Savannah Golf Club in Evidence suggests the course was viewed by George and Martha Washington, John Adams and French general Lafayette. Two Teams Seek to Make History: Charles Coody/Dale Douglass and Mike Hill/Lee Trevino have an opportunity this year to become only the second team in Legends history to win all three divisions. When they won the Demaret Division title in 2001, the team of Don January/Gene Littler became the first to claim all three divisions. January/Littler won the Legends Division in and then won the Raphael Division in They also claimed a second Demaret Division crown in 2004.

4 Coody/Douglass won Legends Division titles in 1990, 1994 and 1998 as well as a Raphael Division title in Hill Trevino won four Legends Division titles ( , ) and a Raphael Division crown in Wire-to-Wire Winners Have Been Plentiful: Wire-to-wire winners have been rather common in the Legends Division competition at the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf. In the history of the event, a team has gone wire-to-wire nine times, including Andy North/Tom Watson in North also went wire-to-wire with Jim Colbert in the Legends Division competition in both 2000 and Other teams going wire-to-wire include: Hubert Green/Gil Morgan (1999), John Bland/Graham Marsh (1997), Charles Coody/ Dale Douglass (1994, 1990), Al Geiberger/Harold Henning (1989) and Don January/Sam Snead (1982). In the 27 years the Legends Division has been a team, better-ball competition, leaders/co-leaders going into the final round have won 17 times but not in the last three years at the Westin Savannah Harbor Resort & Spa. Two Originals Will be Here: There are two players at this year s Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf who were in the first event in In addition to Doug Ford, who has played in every Legends event, 85-year-old Bob Toski will play in the Demaret Division with 90-year-old Jack Fleck, the oldest competitor in the field. Toski played with Chick Harbert in 1978, and the duo finished fifth. Ford partnered Gene Sarazen that year and finished T8. Tournament Holes-in-One: There have been nine holes-in-one in tournament history. In 2008, David Edwards made the first hole-in-one since Chi Chi Rodriguez made an ace in the 1993 event at Barton Creek near Austin. Other players making a hole-in-one in this event: Bob Tway (2010), Tom Nieporte (1984), Dale Douglass (1986), Billy Casper (1989), Charlie Sifford (1989), Charles Coody (1990) and Tommy Jacobs (1991). It Happened on This Day 4/16/78 One week after his Masters triumph, Gary Player s solid play continued when he won the MONY Tournament of Champions at LaCosta. Once again came from seven strokes off the pace to win. His closing-round 67 gave him a two-stroke margin over Andy North and Lee Trevino. 4/16/89 Kenny Knox sets a then TOUR record when he needs just 93 putts at the MCI Heritage Classic. He finishes T8 at Hilton Head. Knox had just 18 putts in the first round. 4/17/94 Hale Irwin wins the last of his three MCI Heritage Classics when he is a two-stroke winner over Greg Norman. 4/17/94 Two years after winning his first Senior PGA Championship, Lee Trevino adds a second when he beat Jim Colbert by one stroke for the title in Florida. Raymond Floyd appeared in control with nine to play but quadrupled bogeyed No. 15 and double-bogeyed No. 17 to fall out of contention. 4/17/05 David Frost sets a new PGA TOUR 72-hole putting record with 92 total putts at the MCI Heritage Classic. One-putted his first 11 greens in the opening round and had 49 one-putts for the week and holed out two times from off the green at Harbour Town. 4/18/93 Tom Wargo becomes the first club professional to win the PGA Seniors Championship when he defeated Bruce Crampton on the second extra hole in Florida for the title. 4/18/93 David Edwards closes with a 69 to win the MCI Heritage Classic on his 37 th birthday by two strokes over David Frost. 4/19/98 Hale Irwin wins his third consecutive PGA Seniors Championship by seven strokes over Larry Nelson. 4/20/86 Fuzzy Zoeller wins his second Sea Pines Heritage title thanks to a birdie on the 72 nd hole which gives him a one-stroke win over Chip Beck, Greg Norman, and Roger Maltbie in Hilton Head. 4/20/97 After four straight rounds in the 60s, Nick Price rolls to a six-stroke win over Jesper Parnevik and Brad Faxon at the MCI Classic in South Carolina for his 16 th PGA TOUR victory.

5 4/20/97 Tom Lehman finishes T4 at the MCI Classic but vaults to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Rankings, becoming just the second American to accomplish that feat at the time (Fred Couples the other in 1992). 4/20/97 Hale Irwin defends his PGA Seniors Championship title by the biggest margin in Champions Tour history in a 72-hole event 12 strokes. 4/21/63 Bob Charles becomes the first left-hander to win a PGA TOUR event when he beats Fred Hawkins by one stroke at the Houston Classic. 4/21/85 One week after winning at Augusta, Bernhard Langer defeats Bobby Wadkins in a one-hole playoff when he makes par at the Sea Pines Heritage Classic. In the process he becomes last man to win the Masters and the event afterward. 4/21/96 With just one bogey over his final 36 holes, Loren Roberts defeats Mark O Meara by three strokes to win the MCI Classic in Hilton Head, SC. Roberts aids his cause with an 8-under-par 63 in the third round which included five straight birdies to start his round. His 72-hole score of 265 broke Hale Irwin s tournament record by one stroke. 4/21/92 Lee Trevino captures his first Senior PGA Championship when he makes par-saving putts on Nos. 17 and 18 to defeat Mike Hill by one stroke at PGA National. He becomes the 10 th player to win a PGA and Senior PGA Championship 4/22/73 Florida State product Hubert Green wins one at home. Green holds off Jim Simons by one stroke to win the Tallahassee Open for the second of his 19 PGA TOUR titles.
