2 Page 2 Tues. April 2 nd we had a good ride and supper in Monroe, via some secret, uncharted gravel road. You should join us on some of these adventure rides. It gets interesting sometimes. Sat. April 6 - We had a ride to Hilltop Restaurant for buffet breakfast, then on to Iron Horse Honda in Monroe for their Open House event. This also included the annual NC -Y2 poker run. Along with everything you normally expect at these things was the NC Motorcycle Drill Team. They put on a fantastic riding display. Ken and Jackie won some prizes and we also learned Jackie can sing! Tues. April 9 - There was a ride to one of our favorite buffet restaurants in Monroe. Perfect upper 70 s riding temperatures and a different route than usual, (all paved). Sat. April 13 - There was a ride to visit NC-U2 in Laurinburg but many chose not to participate. They had a good crowd, good food and fellowship. Door prizes included four free meal tickets meeting (to four different winners). Johnny 1 took home the cash for the Vest drawing. Were home by 9pm. Thur. April 18 - There was a dinner ride tonight to? We had a cool morning ride to Hartsville and a Great gathering this month. Food and service was good as usual. There were twenty-seven members and guest present. Seven of those were our good friends from Laurinburg chapter NC-U2. Also pleased to have Kay Simmons sister Tammy Starns, Ed & Carolyn Pearson and their grandson Chance with us. Grandchildren, Don & Kay Simmons son Mack and daughter in law Mary Alice having no children of their own have adopted a brother & sister. Don & Diane Shumate are proud of their new grandson Asa Shumate born April 9. Parents are Craig & Melissa. Not to be outdone, daughter Loriane Griggs is expecting Twins. George & Lynn Tiller were presented with a certificate for their services to the chapter as Membership Enhancement Coordinator. They do a really good job with that position and we thank them for their efforts. April 2013 Page 2

Convention in Charleston next week but if you are interested in going Johnny 3 would like to talk with you and maybe coordinate departure time/dates, etc. We will also need some workers there for a few hours. On Wednesday May 8 th there is a trip planned to Maggie Valley with a return date of Sat. 11 th. If you are interested please contact Johnny 3 a.s.a.p. at for more details. Door prizes were fun especially at the beginning when some cash prizes were on the table, but they didn t last long. There was no winner present to collect the hidden membership number prize. Loriane Griggs and Johnny #1 split the jackpot and Diane won the Pride/Logo award for wearing something with the GWRRA Logo on it. 5 Page 5 Saturday, April 27, 2013 will mark the day of the first-ever Dice Run for the Roses. As a follow-up to our Run for the Roses which will be held the prior night, we are introducing a Benefit Motorcycle Ride a dice run. The ride will begin at the Southern Pines Campus of Sandhills Children s Center. The first stop will be at Sandhill Cycle; from there, riders will head to the Rockingham Campus of Sandhills Children s Center and finally finish up with a hot dog lunch at Little River Golf & Resort in Southern Pines. All riders will have a chance to roll the dice at each stop, tally up points and try to win a prize at the end of the ride. We are still working on the specific route and ironing out other various details; here is what we do know: Registration will begin at 9 am The Ride will begin at 10 am The cost is $10 or $15 for two riders T-shirts commemorating the ride will be available for $10; American Legion Post 74 5 th Annual Golf Tournament If you are a golfer or know someone that enjoys that sport please share the following information with them. This is a fun event and is for a worthwhile cause. If you are a GoldWinger and a golfer you could double your fun by riding to the event. We understand that economic conditions may limit your ability to give, but know that anything, whether big or small will be helpful in attaining this year s goal of providing funds to a qualified student(s) of Chesterfield High School upon their graduation and future entry into and accredited South Carolina college or technical college of their choice.
