Hole-in-One(s): Linda Cherrington Ron Rigatti Karl Palmer (Details on Page 4) The summer golf season in Mesquite is a slower time of year, but that does not necessarily make it a bad time to play golf, especially at Oasis. The OMGC and OWGA is seeing steady growth during their weekly games. Men s and Ladies league are still players strong. Tee times are generally around 6:30 for these events, however please check out the summer calendar for all the events. The OMGC Summer Stag luncheon will be held on July 6th. There will be a team game followed by lunch and raffle for prizes. The amount of couples during the Thursday league is currently around players as well. During the summer months, formats for the couples will be a little different than most weeks. Formats will include blind draws, mixed couples, different tee box selections, etc... If you haven t lived in Mesquite for sometime in the summer months, a few tendencies tend to happen during the summer months playing golf. 1) Ball travels about 5-10% farther in the air based on swing speed. 2) Ball will roll further due to the firm conditions. 3) Greens will dry and become firm. 4) The wind tends to blow beginning around 11:00am often. Also, during the summer months, tee times will begin relatively early (5:30am). The Grille Room will be open for breakfast and lunch only beginning at 7:00am. Member- Guest rates are lower as well. Beginning Sunday, June 28th, rates will be $30 on either course for guests of members. Starting July 1st, Oasis members will have the opportunity to earn points towards free member guest rounds. For every $200 spent in golf shop merchandise from July 1st- September 30th, you may receive a voucher for a free guest round valid through the remainder of Also beginning July 1st, Melodie will be pricing items 35-50% off as well. Turf Talk with Scott Polychronis The warm weather Bermuda grass has finally made its complete arrival for the summer season.

However, I believe we have settled in on warmer temperatures which will help the few troubled greens on the Palmer, particularly #1, #2, & #14.

Tee boxes, collars, fairways, and greens will all be aerated. The course will re-open on June 25th.

Matthew John will be having a 4th of July BBQ and fireworks viewing starting at 6:00pm. Cost will be $20/person. The cooler May temperatures prohibited proper growth, especially on some of the Palmer greens. However, I believe we have settled in on warmer temperatures which will help the few troubled greens on the Palmer, particularly #1, #2, & #14. Summer is a time for wall-to-wall aeration on both courses beginning with the Canyons on June 22nd. Tee boxes, collars, fairways, and greens will all be aerated. The course will re-open on June 25th. Depending on the weather, greens will typically be completely healed within days of aeration. The Palmer course will be closed for aeration beginning on July 6th and re-open on July 9th. During the summer months is a time for the crew to complete major long term projects. Refurbishing bunkers will continue this summer. This will be the 4th summer season for the project where will fix approximately 4-6 bunkers. Another major project is configuring drainage for #8 Canyons. During the summer you may see the tee boxes moved up based for a period of time. Enjoy the summer wherever you may be.

3 Page 3 Member(s) of the Month What s in the Bag? Mike has a G30 Driver, Callaway fairway woods and PING G-10 irons, Ping eye2 SW and TM Ghost putter. His ball is Callaway Warbird. Dar plays with whatever Mike puts in the bag but loves the Tiger Woods Driver she has. She enjoys playing with pink, orange, and blue balls. Remember, she is learning. Mike was born in Portland, Oregon but raised in Phoenix. Then he returned to West Linn, Oregon to complete high school. Darlene was born in Longview, Washington but raised in West Linn, Oregon. Both graduated from West Linn H.S. Both were also Oregon State Beavers as well. Mike was the friend of her older sister s boyfriend. Darlene went to prom with Mike only as friends. Darlene s dad was always trying to marry her off to Mike, but both married others at first. Mike worked for his dad as a brick mason. When Darlene s dad passed away, they met again when Mike was 28 and she was 24. They soon thereafter married. Five kids, 15 grandkids and 5 greatgrandkids to boot a this time. Mike s first car was a blue 64 SS Impala, 327 engine with power glide transmission. Darlene s father got her a 68 Ford Galaxy, canary yellow. (safety first) Michael started playing golf in 1972 with Darlene s dad and uncles.. Michael really enjoyed Miacoba in Cancun, Mexico.. His best score is 70, but does not have a hole-in-one yet. Darlene just recently picked up the game within the past year. Since Darlene is such a newbie, her favorite course is the Palmer. Darlene s best score is better left silent, but you can ask John Brewer. For a dream vacation Mike would like to go to Tahiti, but Dar wants to go where Bev Whitehead is going for her 60th birthday gift from Ted which is in Bora, Bora in a bungalow placed on top of the water. Through thick & thin Darlene loves Tiger and Mike likes to watch Fred Couples. Mike s hobbies include bowling, hunting, fishing, and collecting firefighter stuff, wooden fishing lures, old bottles, coins, and dust. Darlene is all about reading, bowling, swimming, friends and loving the siblings. Mike s favorite foursome would be Darlene and his two sons: Cary & Casey. Darlene s favorite would be anyone who is patient.
