Dean Murphy, NZ Golf From: Dean Murphy, NZ Golf Sent: Wednesday, 31 October :10 PM To: Dean Murphy, NZ Golf Subject: New Zealand Golf - Partner Update 57 October 2018 To: All New Zealand Golf Clubs, New Zealand Golf District Associations and New Zealand Golf Life Members Good evening, Welcome to the New Zealand Golf Partner Update 57. This monthly communication supplements our regular communication channels and provides a personal update from New Zealand Golf to our key partners in the golf industry. 1

Please feel free to pass this to anyone at your club or District Association who you think may wish to read this update. In this update: LOVE Golf FUTURES is launched New Zealand Golf App New Zealand Golf adopts Women and Girls in Golf Charter National Golf Awards nominations are open She Loves Golf 2018 Golf Sector Environment Group Jack s Point wins international award Sport Integrity Review public consultation now open History NZ Amateur New Zealand Golf Member Offers Latest case studies and information guides (3 new) Membership and Rounds reporting National Group Buying scheme for clubs Other communications from New Zealand Golf All previous Partner Updates can be viewed here. LOVE Golf Futures launched Golf is more than a game, it's an investment into brighter futures. New Zealand Golf was proud to launch LOVE Golf Futures earlier this month at a special event held at Boulcott s Farm Heritage Golf Club in Wellington. A large number of young sport lovers and parents turned out to witness the launch of the next chapter in youth golf alongside Future s Ambassador Phil Tataurangi. LOVE Golf Futures is about enriching the lives of young people by creating experiences that inspire a lifelong love of golf. New Zealand Golf believes if we can create a lifelong love of golf in young people, the future of our sport and our country will be in good hands. To help New Zealand Golf on this new journey to inspire more young people to play the game, a Junior Advisory Group of experts was formed to advocate for young people. One of the key recommendations from the Junior Advisory Group was to create a new brand for young people. The thinking was to create a sense of belonging and community that would connect 2

with the LOVE Golf campaign highlighting its key attributes of being fun, youthful, cool, and a little bit edgy. LOVE Golf Futures is about inspiring the next generation of golfers, but it also has a much wider appeal and impact for the future of our game, communities and our country. If more young people grow a love of golf, it will: Motivate them to be active for life. Help develop valuable life skills to become future leaders. Create opportunities for parents and children to learn and play together. Sport New Zealand CEO Peter Miskimmin has welcomed LOVE Golf Futures. Kiwi kids love sport, and improving the quality of opportunities for our young people is critical if they are to develop a life long love of being physically active, said Mr Miskimmin. We re looking for traditional sports to adapt so they remain relevant to young people, and that s exactly what New Zealand Golf is doing. We are thrilled to see the changes they are making to strengthen the sport and empower young people to play golf. The LOVE Golf Futures programme has six key goals: A new perception and increased profile for golf as a sport of choice for young people Pathways for young people to start playing golf and support them to reach their level of aspirations Empowering young people to play their version of golf A network of facilities that are attractive to young people and engages them easily A skilled and passionate workforce of coaches, administrators and volunteers who understand the wants and needs of young people A cohesive structure that utilises the best resources and partnerships For more details on this exciting new strategy, please visit the Love Golf Website. 3

By popular demand, New Zealand Golf is excited to announce the launch the New Zealand Golf App, available in the App store for iphones (Android App to follow shortly). New Zealand Golf adopts Women and Girls in Golf Charter New Zealand Golf has unveiled a new Women and Girls in Golf Charter as part of the organisation s drive to increase the number of women and girls engaged in golf. The Women and Girls in Golf Charter aims to inspire an industry wide commitment to developing a more inclusive culture within golf to enable more women and girls to flourish and maximise their potential at all levels of the sport. The adoption of the new charter builds on current initiatives but critically demonstrates an enhanced commitment to develop new projects that will focus on encouraging more women and girls to play golf and stay within the sport as members of clubs, while also empowering women to enjoy successful careers working within the golf industry. By adopting the Women and Girls in Golf Charter, New Zealand Golf is specifically committing to: Playing a leadership role that sets the example and standards by which golf sport is led; Strongly promoting and advocating for more women and girls playing, working and volunteering in golf; Advocating for increased opportunities for women in governance at all levels of golf; Developing programmes and initiatives that are focused on achieving the goal set out in this charter; Enhancing perceptions of golf as a healthy, accessible and inclusive sport for women and girls; Encouraging clubs, facilities and the wider golfing sector in New Zealand to be more welcoming, inclusive and accessible for women and girls; and Reporting on progress annually. Dean Murphy, Chief Executive of New Zealand Golf, is proud to see the adoption of the charter commenting We recognise the real importance of increasing the number of women and girls engaged in golf so this charter is a demonstration of our commitment to this area. The need for increased gender diversity in golf is a societal responsibility but it s also the right thing to do. There is a clear need for change and it s important for us to take measures designed to achieve positive change for women, girls and families. We call on everyone involved in golf to play their part in developing a culture that values women s involvement in every aspect of the sport, from participating to pursuing a career. 4

The Women and Girls in Golf Charter is part of a wider piece of work for New Zealand Golf that aims to increase the diversity and inclusion in the sport under a newly adopted Inclusion Charter. New Zealand Golf believes that by actively fostering diversity and inclusion, the inherent value of the game is enhanced for everyone involved. New Zealand Golf is therefore committed to proactively encouraging the inclusion of underrepresented populations and people within our game including women and girls, players with cognitive and physical disabilities, players of all ages, all cultures and players from the rainbow community. Reverend James Somerville etched his name on the trophy at the inaugural men s tournament and Mrs. L. Smith the victor in the women s tournament. The two most prolific winners are both in the New Zealand Golf Hall of Fame. Arthur (A.D.S) Duncan, won the championship ten times between 1899 and 1926 and Mrs. Guy Williams who won six times between 1904 and It has been nearly 50 years since a player has won more than two New Zealand amateur titles and our leading player and world number 18, Daniel Hillier, has the opportunity to win his third title this week. Daniel won in 2015 at Titirangi and last year again at Russley and will be the hot favourite to add a third title.
