2 GM Message Dear Members, Residents and Friends, May I wish everyone a Prosperous and Successful year of the Tiger. SouthLinks Team plans to make this year even more fun and pleasant for members and guests. We will add more flowering plants and improve the décor to beautify the lobby and Golfers Terrace. The golf course will see continuous improvements with the changing of the turf on two fairways, construction of three more elevated alternate tee boxes and uplifting of bunkers so that they are clearly visible from the tee box and fairway. By now, members and guest should notice tremendous improvements of the condition of the greens. In the past, hollow tinning (coring) were carried out three times a year with large core creating uneven greens making putting lines erratic, a bane for golfers. With better green management we will try to minimize the hollow tinning to twice yearly. The use of smaller core equipment followed by immediate rolling allows for quick compaction and helps to smoothen the green surface. In Dec 2009 all front nine greens were completed through this process. We will continue to use this method for the back nine greens in early We will be sprucing up the condominium with a new coat of paint to brighten up the tired look. You might have noticed that our new bungalow housing project at the main entrance has already taken off and will draw the largest attention. By year end some of the luxurious housing may be near completion. I hope this project will be the beginning of bigger things to come, such as hotel, park, etc. We will continue our best to meet all your expectations as a premier Club with service quality you can be proud of. 3 Course Maintenance Update MAKE OVER OF HOLE #11 Hole #11 has been viewed as the hole with an open fairway, flat, plain and rather ordinary. Last year, we saw the potential to add character to this Hole. Thus the fairway bunkers were uplifted and matured instant trees were planted to the right side of the bunkers. The Hole now looks different but there is still room for improvement. This year, we started by elevating the black tee box to provide a bird s eyes view of the entire fairway. Eight Palm trees were planted overnight to the left of the tee box. These Palms create a corridor, making a perfect screen for a semi dog-leg hole. With the upcoming alternate tee boxes now under construction, golfers can expect a different approach to the green. The semi dog-leg right will be the new feature. Hole #11 will no longer be the plain simple hole anymore. Repair Green #8 Late last year a deadly disease attacked the side and collar of Hole #8 green. The problem was quickly overcome with the replacement of the turf transplanted from our nursery. SouthLinks News 2

4 RESIDENT FRIENDLY GOLF GAME Three teams, from Woodside, Exxon and SouthLinks held a friendly golf game on 10 Jan After the game, players enjoyed a spread of BBQ dinner. 6 The Signature Golf Charity Tournament SouthLinks Country Club was privileged to host the above tournament organized by the Signature Club. 107 local golfers chipped in the fund raising event and raised Rp ,- for the earth quake victims in Sumatra. 10 30 th Batam Japanese Companies Golf Competition The above event, organized by SBI, was held in SouthLinks Country Club on 13th Dec Ninety Two golfers participated, some of whom came from Singapore. The overall winner for the Competition was the Noble Team with a nett score of 74. The next game in June 2010 will be again at SouthLinks Country Club. 24 th RICE CUP The competition held on 21st Nov 2009 was organized by Fukuoka Team, and participated by 77 golfers from various prefecture in Japan. The winner, Fukushima Team will be the next organizer for the 25th RICE CUP. TEAM OSCHTRICIANS SCORE FOR CHARITY 4 th CHRISTMAS CUP 2009 This event organized by Team Oschtricians for the benefit of the underprivileged children in Batam, was held on 18th Dec About 70 children from two orphanages (Yayasan Darul Islah and Yayasan Bethesda) were invited to join the golfers for dinner and celebrations with some hilarious entertainments.
