2 CONNECTICUT SECTION PGA SECTION OFFICE 35 COLD SPRING ROAD, SUITE 212 ROCKY HILL, CT PHONE: FAX: Office Hours: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM BACKGROUND The Connecticut Section PGA is one of 41 sections chartered that together comprise the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA of America). The boundaries for the section include the state of Connecticut, with the exception of territory south and west of a line between the cities of Danbury and Bridgeport, and the western half of the state of Massachusetts, except for Berkshire County and the most western part of the state. There are 199 golf courses within the section boundaries. Rocky Hill, Conn. The section is comprised of 372 PGA Professionals, including 11 women, and consisting of 303 PGA Members, and 69 PGA Apprentices registered in the PGA Professional Golf Management Program. Of the 372 total, 261 professionals are actively employed in 21 different classifications. Of the 69 professionals that are currently unemployed, 48 are Life and Retired PGA Members. The Administrative Office is located in Rocky Hill, a Southern suburb of the Greater Hartford area. Located in a commercial condominium, the section and the Connecticut State Golf Association jointly own a 2,200 square foot office known as "Connecticut Golf House." 2 Connecticut Section PGA 2010

3 CONNECTICUT SECTION PGA DIRECTIONS TO THE SECTION OFFICE: From Route 91, Exit 23--West Street. Northbound - take a left off exit ramp; Southbound take a right off exit ramp. Go West about ¼ mile to the intersection of Route 3 ("T" intersection - you can only go left or right). Take a left on Route 3 (South) and go to next traffic light (Cold Spring Road). Turn right on Cold Spring Road, pass small shopping center on right hand corner to red brick building beyond -- sign in front "Southway Executive Park." Take a right turn just past building and drive to back of second red brick building. Section office is on the 1st floor on the right as you enter. Door sign reads " Connecticut Golf House." 4 SECTION OFFICERS President Ralph Salito Head Golf Professional Richter Park Golf Course Danbury, Conn. Ralph Salito has been the head professional at Richter Park Golf Course since 1997 and has been a PGA member since He turned professional after having successful amateur and business careers. Once elected to PGA membership under the mentorship of PGA Professional Frank Selva, he turned his attention to serving the Association. Before being an elected member of the Board of Directors, he served on the Tournament Committee for three years and then as the Chairman for an additional three years. He also served as a Vice President at Large before being elected to the office of Secretary in Salito was honored by the section as Merchandiser of the Year at a public facility in 2001 and was the recipient of the Bill Strausbaugh Award in He won the 2004 and 2005 Senior PGA Championships, The Walter Lowell Championship in 2005, and the Connecticut Senior Open in He has been a member of the Connecticut PGA Julius Boros Challenge Cup Team several times. Vice President John Korolyshun Assistant Professional Mill River Country Club Stratford, Conn. John Korolyshun was elected to PGA membership in He is employed as an Assistant Professional at Mill River Country Club. Prior to that he was the Head Professional at Alling Memorial Golf Course for eight years, and at Oronoque Country Club, also for eight years. He began his career in golf as Assistant Professional at Race Brook Country Club and Fairfield Country Club. Korolyshun currently serves as the Finance Committee Chairman. He served on the Tournament Committee for eight years and as the Chairman of the Rules and Competitions Committee for two years. He was a member of the Board of Directors in 2000 and also chaired the Growth of the Game and Play Golf America Committees. He is a 1973 graduate of Fairfield University with a BS in Marketing and a minor in Psychology. 4 Connecticut Section PGA 2010

5 BOARD OF DIRECTORS Secretary Michael O Grady Head Golf Professional Lake Waramaug Country Club New Preston, Conn. Mike O Grady has been the head golf professional at Lake Waramaug Country Club in New Preston, Conn. since 1998, and has been a PGA Member for 12 years. He is a 1981 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. His previous employment includes head professional experience at Quail Hollow Country Club in the New England Section and assistant professional experience in the Carolinas Section at Lake Toxaway Country Club, and in the South Florida Section at both Lost Tree Club and PGA National Golf Club. His service to the Connecticut Section began in 2006 when he was elected to serve a three-year term as Director. He chaired the Special Awards Committee for several years and served on both the Membership and Rules and Competitions Committees during that span. 11 ASSISTANTS ASSOCIATION The Assistants Association is a subsidiary of the section and its mission is to create an environment, through education and training, which shall improve the skill level and effectiveness of assistant professionals in their career pursuits of obtaining head golf professional positions. The Assistants Association holds spring and fall annual meetings. The tournament schedule is open to Class A-8 PGA members and eligibly employed PGA Registered Apprentices and Section Pre-Apprentices. An annual Assistants Association Membership Fee (AAMF) of $35 is required to play in the series of four Individual Pro events, but is not required to play in the Pro-Pro tournaments or the Assistant Championship. The tournament schedule begins with a blind draw Pro-Pro held in conjunction with the Spring Meeting and concludes with a Pro-Pro following the Fall Meeting. Any Assistants Association member that wants to have voting rights at the Spring and Fall Meetings must submit a request in writing to the Secretary by July 1. 12 CONNECTICUT SECTION PGA GOLF FOUNDATION The Connecticut Section PGA Golf Foundation, Inc. is a non-stock corporation that received approval from the Internal Revenue Service on January 17, 1995, to be classified as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The Foundation was founded to provide information and services to golf and golfers, and to promote the game to the public at large. It is intended to serve golf throughout Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. Since its inception, one of the primary objectives of the Foundation has been the support of youth golf programs and activities, including the Connecticut PGA Junior Golf Association and several underprivileged youth golf programs. The Foundation strives to help fund these initiatives and others including programs that serve women, Special Olympians, and physically challenged golfers. Since 2000, nearly $530,000 has been granted to worthwhile programs. In 2008 alone, the Foundation awarded 25 grants totaling more than $70,000. Financial contributions to the Foundation are completely tax-deductible. The Foundation strives to raise money in many ways, including but not limited to solicitation of gifts, grants and contributions from corporations, businesses, private citizens, and other foundations. Also, PGA Professionals participate in an annual fund raising drive, Drive For The Game, which benefits the Foundation. Grants are awarded twice a year in June and December. Applications are accepted on an annual basis. Organizations may apply for grants in consecutive years. The deadline for the June awards is the first business day in May and for December is the first business day in October. 14 ALLIED ASSOCIATIONS Connecticut State Golf Association The CSGA is the oldest state golf association in the country, supporting golf in Connecticut since The mission of the CSGA is to promote and preserve the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf by serving its member clubs and their golf members. The CSGA provides the highest level of service in administering course ratings, conducting tournaments, and certifying and issuing handicap indexes through its member clubs using best practices developed by the United States Golf Association. The CSGA maintains professional relationships and works with other golf associations in Connecticut, throughout New England, and the Metropolitan Golf Association. Each year the CSGA contributes financially to the Connecticut Section PGA to support PGA Member programs. This is made possible through the handicapping service program that professionals help promote and support. 15 ALLIED ASSOCIATIONS Connecticut Club Managers Association The Connecticut Club Managers' Association is the professional association for managers of membership clubs in Connecticut. The objectives of the Association are to promote and advance friendly relations among persons connected with the management of clubs and other associations of similar character; to encourage the education and advancement of its members; and to assist club officers and members, through their managers, to secure the utmost in efficient and successful operations. CWGA now comprises 62 member clubs with a membership of over 650 women. Club membership in this Association is limited to private golf clubs in the State of Connecticut. 16 ALLIED ASSOCIATIONS Southern New England Women s Golf Association The Southern New England Women's Golf Association, organized in 1956, exists for the promotion of golf for women within the state of Connecticut and neighboring states. SNEWGA membership is open to all women's associations from public, semiprivate, and private golf clubs. SNEWGA is currently made up of 37 member clubs and over 1,000 individual members. Along with golf instruction, The First Tee of Connecticut teaches a Life Skills curriculum that is based on a set of nine core values: Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Courtesy, Judgment, Confidence, Responsibility, and Perseverance. The First Tee of Connecticut believes that participating in these programs will improve the lives of those who embrace the game's traditions and values. The First Tee of CT is an initiative of the CT Golf Foundation, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) organization. The CT Golf Foundation was created to expose golf to underprivileged youth who might not normally have access to the game. 17 IMPORTANT POLICIES Annual Meeting Dress Code The dress code for section, chapter, and Assistants Association business meetings is Jacket & tie for male professionals; business attire for female professionals, unless otherwise specified. Golf House Dress Code The daily dress code for Golf House is golf attire. Jeans are not to be worn. Registration of Newly Hired Professionals All supervising professionals should make sure that newly hired employees have filed all the appropriate paperwork with the section office. Employees not affiliated with the PGA of America should be informed about the section Pre-Apprentice program. Late Fee Policy Section members registering for meetings and education seminars after the deadline or at the door without prior notice will be charged a $10 late fee. A $25 late fee is added to all tournament entries received after the registration deadline. Registration Surcharge The Board of Directors has authorized a $20 surcharge on all event entries not completed online by the section member. American Express/MasterCard/Visa American Express, MasterCard, and Visa charge accounts may be used for payment of registration fees for tournaments and events with no online registration. Charge account numbers will not be kept on file. Therefore, it will be necessary to provide the account number, expiration date, and billing address zip code each time a registration fee is charged. No charges will be accepted over the telephone. Connecticut Section PGA

18 IMPORTANT POLICIES Employment & PGA Classification Changes All PGA Members and Apprentices are required to advise the section within 10 business days of any employment change. Those making employment and/or classification changes may complete this requirement online at PGALinks.com. If changes are not completed online, all Member Change Forms or Apprentice Employment Verification Forms should be mailed or faxed to the SECTION OFFICE not to PGA of America. Also required for all section members making employment or classification changes is a letter indicating the terms of both current and new contracts, including a job description and anticipated income. A form for this reporting requirement is available at ctpga.com under Important Forms. (If changes are completed online, terms of employment documents must still be submitted in writing to the section office.) 1099 Mailing Address For the purposes of 1099 forms and prize money checks, the professional's facility will be the address used. If you prefer to have your checks and 1099 form sent to a different address, please advise the section office. Assistants Association Management Fee (AAMF) In order to be eligible to play in the Individual Pro Series, all participants must pay a management fee of $35. Professionals who pay this fee will not be charged for their dinners at the Assistants Association Fall Meeting. Amateur Team Prizes All prizes for amateur merchandise redemption shall be paid directly to the home course golf professional per Section Tournament Rules & Regulations and denoted on the check. This money shall be included on a professional s 1099 and reported to the IRS. Section professionals should keep records of such and consult with their tax specialist before filing a return. Fine for Conduct Violations at Tournaments See Tournament Rules & Regulations Section There is an automatic fine associated with every Conduct Violation as defined by the TR&R. 18 Connecticut Section PGA 2010

19 COMPLIMENTARY ACCESS TO EVENTS FOR PGA MEMBERS THE MASTERS (April 8-11): Class A PGA Members, Life Members and Master Professional Members (PGA Members only; this offer is not extended to apprentices). No spouse or families or complimentary juniors (including Practice Rounds). Must show membership card and photo I.D. each day. Go to Gate 6A off of Berckmans Road then report to Gate C to receive daily ticket. NOTE: Daily tickets are not available to purchase for spouse. Cell phones, beepers, and other electronic devices are not permitted on the grounds at all times. Cameras are strictly prohibited on Tournament days. Ticket Information or 71 st SENIOR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP (May 27-30): PGA Members, apprentices, PGM students, and accompanying immediate family (spouse, children and his and her parents -- does not include member's grandparents, brothers/sisters, spouse of children, etc.) Must show membership card and photo I.D. each day. PGA Members (only) may bring a guest instead of their spouse. Section employees and their spouse may receive a complimentary daily ticket. Section Employees must show a current Section Employee card and photo identification. Spouse must accompany the Section Employee to receive ticket. The new identity is rooted in the organization's revised brand strategy articulated as "Experts in the Game and Business of Golf." The PGA of America s updated brand strategy brings a renewed focus on its membership, employers, and the golfing public, and their dedication to preserving golf s heritage while increasing its popularity and awareness. The PGA of America has authorized PGA members to use the Association logo in a responsible manner.
