2 Welcome to Wisconsin Assistant Golf Professional Association, Mission Statement: The Wisconsin Assistant Golf Professional Association exists to provide golf professionals', who are seeking or have attained PGA Membership, opportunities in education, tournament play, and building professional relationships. Please use this guide as a road map as you attempt to achieve your goal of being elected to PGA membership. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at any time. This hotline is for apprentices in the program who are working on preparing for a checkpoint or have questions on work experience activities. 4 Playing Privileges / PGA Reciprocal *Call the golf course you want to play and talk to the Head Golf Professional. *Ask what tee times are available for your round of golf (Don t assume you can play on Saturday morning at 9am). *Ask what the fee will be to play. *If you are planning on bringing guests to play with you ask what the fee will be for those players (Don t assume it will be the same rate as yours). *Show up at least 15 minutes early for your tee time; that includes any guests that will be playing with you. *Wear proper attire. This includes long pants (no denim) and a collared shirt. Your guests should wear a collared shirt as well. *Keep a good pace of play. This means your entire group. *Respect the golf course by driving the golf cars properly and by not being disruptive to other golfers by throwing clubs or being loud. *When you are done you should always thank the golf professional staff for allowing you to play. Remember you are a guest of the facility and you are representing the PGA of America. Treat the facility and the staff the way you would want to be treated.

5 PLEASE NOTE: If you have registered with the Wisconsin PGA as a Pre-Apprentice, please keep in mind that you have not started the PGA / PGM Program. Becoming a Pre- Apprentice is a great way to determine if you want to become a PGA member and if the golf business is right for you. It gives you the opportunity to participate in Wisconsin PGA events, be affiliated with the Wisconsin PGA and learn more about the PGA of America. Membership as a Pre-Apprentice is limited to two years. Most individuals use this time to pass their P.A.T. and save money to buy their PGA level one books. Steps to Becoming a PGA Member In order to become a PGA member, you will need to become a registered apprentice and go through the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGA PGM) Program. To register into the PGA PGM Program, you must: 1. All individuals registering or re-registering as an apprentice must complete a Background Check. To complete the Background Check, click here 2. Access the Qualifying Level Courses on the PGA Knowledge Center and pass the Qualifying Test. Click here for further details. 3. Satisfy the PAT requirement. For information click here. PLEASE NOTE: You are encouraged to verify the expiration dates for the Qualifying Level Courses and the PAT requirement. These expiration dates are noted in the above links. 4. Meet the Eligible Employment requirements described: Individuals shall be eligibly employed in one of the following classifications. You must be full-time eligibly employed at the time of registration. Participation in an amateur event will forfeit all work experience credits earned prior to the event. 5. An apprentice registration form verifying employment must be signed and submitted by you. Download the registration form. 6. Pay all apprentice fees. Click here to access our Fees Calculator. 7. Acceptable Progress is defined by successful completion of each Level's Checkpoint. In order to remain in good standing, the Level 1 Checkpoint must be successfully completed within two years of the Level 1 start date; the Level 2 Checkpoint must be successfully completed within four years of the Level 1 start date; and, the Level 3 Checkpoint must be successfully completed within six years of the Level 1 start date. Apprentices have eight years from their Level 1 start date to graduate from the PGA PGM Program and get elected to membership. 8. Have a high school diploma or be at least 18 years of age and have the equivalent of a high school education. You are eligible for educational credits toward PGA membership with a college degree. 9. A total of 36 work experience credits must be earned in addition to fulfilling the PGA PGM Program. (One credit per month while eligibly employed full time.) 12 credits are awarded for a four year college degree and six credits for a two year college degree. Amateur Status: Work experience earned prior to participating in an amateur event will be forfeited. * Individuals previously terminated for failure to purchase the Level 1 Kit, must now access the Qualifying Level and pass the Qualifying Test to be eligible to register as an apprentice. Note: All applicants are required to read and write in English to successfully complete the PGA Professional Golf Management Program. 7 PGA PGM 2.0 Apprentice Program Overview Those following the apprentice pathway are not considered PGA apprentices until they satisfy all requirements at the Qualifying Level and register as an apprentice. To register as a PGA apprentice, participants must pass the PGA Playing Ability Test, pass the Qualifying Test, and be eligibly employed at a PGA Recognized Golf Facility. Level 1 courses will not be made available through the PGA Knowledge Center until individuals register as PGA apprentices. Apprentices must maintain eligible employment throughout the PGA PGM Program. Qualifying Level Applicants must complete three online courses: Introduction to the PGM and the Golf Profession, PGA History and Constitution, and Rules of Golf 1 and pass a knowledge test based on the three courses prior to registering as a PGA Apprentice. PGA PGM Level 1 Applicants who have passed the qualifying courses, met the eligible employment requirement and have a qualifying PAT score may register into the PGA Apprentice Program. Applicants pay apprentice fees and Level 1 online courses fees. The online courses include a self-directed course and pre-seminar courses. These courses must be completed before the apprentice attends Level 1 classes. Golf Car Fleet Management is a self-directed course and pre-seminar courses are: Customer Relations, Introduction to Teaching/Club Performance, Business Planning and Tournament Operations. Level 1 Classes Apprentices attend five days of Level 1 seminars at the PGA Education Center on the following courses: Customer Relations, Intro to Teaching/Club Performance, Business Planning and Tournament Operations. Apprentices return home and test on these courses through a computer-based testing agency. Level 2 After passing Level 1 knowledge tests, the apprentice pays a Level 2 online courses access fee. These courses must be completed before the Apprentice attends Level 2 Classes. Turfgrass Management is a self-directed course and the pre-seminar courses are: Golf Operations, Intermediate Teaching/Club Alteration, and Merchandising and Inventory Management Apprentices attend five days of Level 2 seminars at the PGA Education Center. Golf Operations, Intermediate Teaching/Club Alteration, and Merchandising and Inventory Management. Apprentices return home and test on these courses through a computer-based testing agency. Level 3 After passing Level 2 knowledge tests, the apprentice pays a Level 3 online courses access fee. These courses must be completed before the apprentice attends Level 3 classes.

8 Food and Beverage, Human Resources and Career Enhancement are self-directed courses. The pre-seminar courses are: Advanced Teaching/Golf Club Fitting, Player Development/Teaching Business, and Supervising and Delegating. Apprentices return to the PGA Education Center for five days and attend seminars on Advanced Teaching/Golf Club Fitting, Player Development/Teaching Business, Supervising and Delegating and participate in the Final Experience. Apprentices return home and test on these courses through a computer-based testing agency. Apprentices who have passed all tests, the Player Ability Test and have earned 36 education/work experience credits are elected to PGA Membership. PGA PGM 2.0 Qualifying Level courses and tests must be completed prior to registration into the PGA apprentice program. Applicants who have met the eligible employment requirements and have passed the PAT or PAT qualifier will register online through the learning management portal. Effective July, 2010 PGA PGM 2.0 Level 1 seminars conducted at the PGA Education Center. Effective July 2011 PGA PGM 2.0 Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 seminars conducted at the PGA Education Center. Transition PGA PGM 1.0 Level 1 Checkpoints will be conducted through December, If Level 1 apprentices do not attend a checkpoint by the above date, they will transfer into the PGA PGM 2.0 program and must pay a transfer fee to access the Qualifying Courses and the Level 1 pre-seminar courses. Apprentices would be required to take the qualifying test and complete the pre-seminar courses before they attend the new PGA PGM Level 1 seminars at the PGA Education Center. PGA PGM 1.0 Level 2 Checkpoints will be conducted though June, PGA PGM 1.0 Level 3 Checkpoints will be conducted through June, 2014.

10 Acceptable Progress Acceptable progress in the PGA PGM Program is defined by successful completion of each level. Successful Completion of Level 1 -- Two years from Level 1 start date Level 1 testing must be successfully completed within two years of the Level 1 Start Date. If Level 1 testing is not successfully completed by the end of two years the apprentice is put on suspension until the Level 1 testing is completed. If Level 1 testing is not completed within four years, the apprentice is terminated. After termination, if Level 1 testing is completed within six years, the former apprentice may re-register and continue in the PGA PGM Program. If not completed within six years, the former apprentice must wait until eight years past the Level 1 start date to re-register and must complete the PGA PGM Program in its entirety. Successful Completion of Level 2 -- Four years from Level 1 start date Level 2 testing must be successfully completed within four years of the Level 1 Start Date. If Level 2 testing is not successfully completed by the end of four years the apprentice is put on suspension until Level 2 testing is completed. If Level 2 testing is not completed within six years, the apprentice is terminated. After termination, if Level 2 testing is completed within eight years, the former apprentice may re-register and continue in the PGA PGM Program, however, the PGA PGM Program and election to Membership must occur within eight years of the Level 1 start date. If not, the former apprentice must wait until eight years past the Level 1 start date to re-register and must complete the PGA PGM Program in its entirety. Successful Completion of Level 3 -- Six years from Level 1 start date Level 3 testing must be successfully completed within six years of the Level 1 Start Date. If Level 3 is not successfully completed by the end of six years the apprentice is put on suspension until level 3 testing is completed. If Level 3 testing is not successfully completed within 8 years the apprentice is terminated and must complete the PGA PGM program in its entirety. Election to PGA Membership -- Eight years from Level 1 start date Apprentices have eight years from their Level 1 Start Date to be elected to PGA membership. If apprentices do not become elected in eight years, they are terminated from the program and must complete the PGA PGM Program again in its entirety, including passing the PAT.

11 How to Prepare for Level 1 Seminars About This Guide The purpose of this guide is to help you prepare for your first week of Level 1 seminars. Read this guide thoroughly before attending your session, and if you have any questions or concerns about what is expected of you, contact The PGA Education Department at You may also a PGA PGM Mentor at pgapgmmentor@pgahq.com. All seminars will be held at the PGA Education Center in Port St. Lucie, FL. When the Center opened in 2001, the PGA Board of Directors assured equity for all apprentices by creating a package fee to include seminar delivery, airfare and lodging. Prior to Attending Level 1 Classes Review all the pre-seminar materials on the PGA Knowledge Center. Review the class schedule and select a session you would like to attend. Register by calling PGA Membership at Have available the following information: Name Address Phone and fax numbers address Credit card information Your gender (for lodging purposes) Departing airport Seat preference (window or aisle) Pay the registration fee of $2,000. This fee includes: Travel - round-trip travel from your departing airport to Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) and transportation to the PGA Education Center. You will be sent an itinerary via from Premier Golf for your approval. Upon approval, your e-ticket will be secured. If you choose not to accept the flight arrangements, you will be assigned a voucher, which is valid for 1 year. This voucher is worth $250 toward any air-travel package booked with Premier Golf. Lodging - 6 nights lodging at Hilton Garden Inn. Arrangements will be made to lodge you with another apprentice in a double room. Breakfast- voucher from Sam Snead s Tavern within the Hilton Garden Inn. Lunch and breaks at the PGA Education Center Dinner is at your own expense Evening dinner shuttles to local restaurants provided by Palm Beach Tours and Transportation. If you have not satisfied the 36-hole PAT, an additional fee of $50 will be collected for you to attend a Player Development Course while attending the seminars.

12 Arrival Upon arrival at Palm Beach International, you should check in with the Palm Beach Tours & Transportation greeter at baggage claim. You will be advised of the time for the next shuttle run to Hilton Garden Inn. If you choose to rent a car and not use the shuttle service, please advise the greeter. If you have any problems or questions upon your arrival, Palm Beach Tours & Transportation can be contracted directly at or Delays/Cancels Since you will be traveling over the weekend and the Education Center is closed, you must contact Premier Golf at and Palm Beach Tours & Transportation at directly regarding any changes in your travel. If, over the weekend, you find yourself unable to attend the session you must call Premier Golf or the airline directly to cancel your ticket to avoid forfeiting your entire fee. Please follow-up with a call to PGA Membership on Monday. If your airline flight is cancelled due to inclement weather, arrangements will be made to re-schedule you for a future session at no additional fee. Schedule -Day Event Arrivals Sunday Transportation to the Hilton Garden Inn will be provided from Palm Beach International Airport. Check-in time at the Hilton Garden Inn is 3:00 pm. A credit card must be presented for incidental charges. The Hilton Garden Inn is directly across from the PGA Education Center in Port St Lucie, FL. Day 1- Monday, 8:00 5:00 pm. Introduction to Teaching & Golf Club Performance Seminar Day Two. Golf Attire. Departures Saturday Transportation will be provided to Palm Beach International Airport from the Hilton Garden Inn. All apprentices will depart on Saturday.

13 What to Bring to the Seminars Here is a checklist indicating all of the items you should bring. Photo ID Notebook Laptop Appropriate gear for outdoors during inclement weather Hats Sunglasses Sunscreen Policies & Procedures Seminars Most PGA PGM seminars require pre-seminar activities, which must be completed prior to the seminar to enhance the learning experience. Each seminar in the PGA PGM must be attended in its entirety. If you are late or leave early, you will not receive credit for the seminar and must pay a retake fee and re-attend. You will be responsible for your transportation and lodging. Dress Code Business attire must be worn during the People and Business seminars. Business attire is a suit or sport jacket with tie for gentlemen and a suit, pantsuit, or slacks and jacket for ladies. Casual golf attire is appropriate for the Game seminars and consists of slacks and golf shirt with collar for men and slacks and/or golf skirt and golf shirt with collar for ladies. Transfer/Cancellation A fee will be charged anytime you need to re-schedule your attendance. If you cancel over the weekend you must contact Premier Golf or the airlines directly to cancel your airline ticket. Failure to do so will result in forfeiting all fees. Work Experience Portfolio You will receive work experience assignments when you attend the seminar session. These assignments will be completed upon your return to your facility. Work experience activities must be submitted and then evaluated by PGM faculty. You will be ed an evaluation of your portfolio. If approved, you will be notified by an from ACT that you are eligible to test on Level 1 courses. Testing You will receive an from ACT with an eligibility code and password when your work experience portfolio has been approved. Using the link provided in the you may schedule a testing session for the Level 1 courses. Testing sessions may be scheduled at any of the more than 230 ACT Center sites across the country. The fees for the testing session will be paid directly to ACT and will be based on the number of tests you schedule and the time allowed for each test. A confirmation will be sent with detailed testing information including location, date and time. ACT requires a 2-business day cancellation notice. You should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your testing appointment. A photo ID will be required. You will receive your results immediately at the test center. If you have failed a test, you will be sent another eligibility within one week.

14 Once you have received that you may register with ACT to test on the course(s) you have failed. If you have passed all tests, you will advance to the next level. You should then pay the access fee and begin the next level s courses on the PGA Knowledge Center.
