County Captain s Note Now the winter is here and some of us have hung up our clubs for a few weeks and are now concentrating on the tinsel and tree, perhaps it's time to reflect on the past year. I certainly hope all your golfing goals and aspirations have been reached and trophies won. Congratulations to all that have come down in handicap and particularly to Natalie Warke for getting into the SSE training program. Hope to see many of you next year at our first meeting in February 22nd at Sunningdale Ladies. 11am. I will take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best golfing for the New Year., Sheree Dove-Wilde Berkshire County Captain The Junior Championship 2014 Zoe Collins presented with the Championship Cup By Teresa Taylor, County President Players & winners at the 1 st Tee Royal Ascot GC, 12 July 2014 Message from Junior County Captain I would firstly like to thank Becky for captaining a fantastic year with Berkshire Girls she did a brilliant job and on behalf of all the juniors I'd like to wish her well in her new ventures. I am really looking forward to the year ahead - it's great to see so many younger members playing for the county and improving so much. I am especially pleased that I will be supported by Katie Hayes in her new role as Junior Vice-Captain for Finally, I'd like to thank Pauline for her continuing support and encouragement, she does an incredible job! Nathalie Nathalie Warke Katie Hayes Sam Collier, Julia Warke & Zoe Collins Izzy Holmes, Nathalie Warke & Becky Webb Imogen Wilson & Jessica Li Freya Burns & Annie Grillo Zoe Collins won the 50 th Berkshire Junior Girls Champion title in fine style with a gross score of 71, setting a new Ladies course record at Royal Ascot. Her score was all the more noteworthy as it included a 5 on the par three 17th! Sam Collier was runner up to her county team mate and Isabella Holmes took 3 rd place in what has turned out to be a fine summer for this young Berkshire player. The

Handicap Cup went to last year s County Champion, Julia Warke, also a 2014 county team player, with Jessica Li runner up on count back and in third place, Nathalie Warke. Anastasia Grillo was the winner of the 18 hole Stableford competition with a magnificent 39 points and Freya Burns, a worthy runner up. Great support from Anthea Winn, the Club Captain at Royal Ascot, in a historic year for her, as the first elected woman to this position in any UK Royal GC. This event also hosts a fun competition for the younger players in the Berkshire Girls Coaching Programme. Winner of the 9 hole competition was Emma Pearson, runner up Margaux Gathy. Both girls are now proud holders of a CONGU handicap and Margaux will be selected to play for Berkshire in 2015 while Emma represented her County against Hertfordshire and Middlesex in October this year gaining a half in her match League Matches All our matches this year have been played away. The team played Oxfordshire in April at Badgemore Park GC with the two J s in the team winning their matches but an overall loss for Berkshire. Thanks to the team for arriving at 11.00am - they know what I mean! We played Buckinghamshire at Gerrards Cross in August and were faced with an uphill battle if we were to qualify for a place in the Midlands South final at Worcestershire in September. Guess what; we won all seven matches and for the third year running represented the South of the region in the final. Midland South Regional Finals The team for the day were Jessica Li, Captain of the day, Holly and Freya Burns. They won two of the three matches against Worcestershire to bring the cup home again for the third year running. An excellent day and many thanks to all the players in 2014 for taking part in all the matches and to parents who make sure the girls get to all the match venues on time and in good spirits. Holly and Freya Burns with Jessica Li Captain of the day. Winners, Team Handicap Cup at Stratford-upon-Avon. Other Matches BB&O Girls v BB&O U16 & U14 Boys at Gerrards Cross GC 19 th October The BB&O girls pairs play a triangulated match against the U16 & U14 boys. Two pairs from each County represent the girls BB&O team. Berkshire players were Nathalie & Julia Wark, Sam Collier and Izzy Holmes. The boys beat the girls 2½ - 1½. The Berkshire team were managed by Lisa Cowap, many thanks for her skilful leadership. Bucks/Berks v Midsex/Herts Hendon GC 19 th October This four ball, better ball partnership offers a different matchplay format for the girls. Middlesex and Hertfordshire opted to pair high and low handicaps together, while Bucks and Berks paired in handicap order this year. Herts/Mddsex were the winners 4/2 but the matches were close and two finished on the 18 th green. Emma Pearson gained her County Playing Bag Tag for her first match representing Berkshire. Berkshire Girls v East Berkshire Boys This season s final match against the boys at EB is always fun and this year was no exception. Becky, Nathalie, Julia, Sam, Katie and Felicity battled it out for a match score of 1½ against the boys. An honourable half making the post-match meal very relaxed. Thanks as always to Barry Slater, the Junior Organiser at East Berkshire for hosting the event. 2 nd Team County Matches Becky, Julia, Nathalie and Sam all took part in the County 2 nd team matches this year and thanks to Cathy Jones 2 nd Team Captain for including the girls into the teams, not an easy task with school dates and exams. BB&O Round Up The County Girls Team played at Sunningdale Ladies in March against Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire for the BB&O Shield. Buckinghamshire won the event with a team

total of 218 points. The event was hosted by Berkshire and representing us were Becky Webb, Nathalie Warke, Izzy Holmes, Katie Hayes, Imogen Wilson, Holly Bainbridge, Holly and Freya Burns. In April the BB&O Championships were held at Henley GC, hosted by Oxfordshire on a wonderful sunny day. In the 18 hole medal competition Julia Warke came 2 nd with a gross 76 and Jessica Li was 2 nd in the handicap section. Annie Grillo completed Berkshire s hold on second place by claiming this spot in the 18 hole Stableford Competition. Berkshire fielded nine players in this event. The BB&O JA Champion of Champions 2013 was finally held in April 2014 after two weather delayed dates. Eleven Berkshire players took part. The BB&O JA will not be held in 2015 and Berkshire Girls Golf, with the support of BCLGA, will be fulfilling this level of coaching in the talent pathway. Parents will be receiving letters which will offer girls places on the five levels of coaching currently being planned for Berkshire girls for Thanks go to John Low, Mervyn Foulds and Rajiv Patel for the planning, structure and drive which has helped young players to forge ahead with their golf over the last seven years. We aim to build on this platform in County Open Success and National Events Julia Warke came 1 st in the Henley Open in July and secured 2 nd Place in the Frilford Heath Open in June. She also achieved 2 nd place in the Abrahams Trophy at Wellingbourough in July. Rebecca Webb won the Goring & Streatley Junior Open in June as well as picking up the longest drive prize. This was all prior to travelling up to Northamptonshire to compete in County Week for Berkshire alongside her mother Laura Webb, the first mother and daughter players for Berkshire. Julia and Nathalie Warke and Isabella Holmes travelled north to take part in the British Girls U16 & U18 Schools Championships Julia Warke, Sam Collier and Isabella Holmes represented Berkshire in the National Schools Competition held in May at the RAC course. England Thames Valley Regional Squad U16 U18 Three Berkshire players have been selected for the 2015 training programme. Julia Warke, this is for the second year, Isabella Holmes and Nathalie Warke. Many congratulations. Handicap Reductions; Isabella Holmes 17 > 6 Nathalie Warke 11 > 5 Julia Warke 6 >5 Rebecca Webb 15 > 8 Jessica Li 16 >11 Gaby Curtis 17 > 13 Chloe Hubbard 36 > 16 Annie Grillo 36 > 25 Emma Pearson 41 >36 Felicity Deaney 28 >20 Holly Burns 31 >25 Freya Burns 28 >26 Junior Colours were awarded to: Rebecca Webb Nathalie Warke Sam Collier Isabella Holmes Playing Colours were awarded to: Holly Burns Freya Burns County Bag Tags were awarded to: Chloe Hubbard Felicity Deaney Emma Pearson Competition News We run two Junior and Adult competitions during the year. Temple host the opening competition of the season, a Junior & Adult competition with no handicap entry restrictions. It was fitting that Imogen and Tony Wilson scored the winning points in their final appearance. Imogen has played for Berkshire in league matches, competed in four Junior Championships and Tony has taken her to many away fixtures over the last five years. Our best wishes for continuing success in adult golf Imogen.

The Shiela Fitzgerald Cup was awarded to Isobella Holmes for her handicap reduction from 17 to 6. Peter & Becky Webb Winners Imogen & Tony Wilson with 37 points Julia & Colette Warke 2 nd place with 36 Points Robyn Aitken & Wilma Reed Barbara Langdale, Hennerton Ladies Captain, presenting playing colours to Holly & Freya Burns. Texas Scramble Team event Winners: David & Jessica, Anmor and Giurmnder Sally Judge & Erin Aitken Kate & Owen Jessiman 3 rd place with 34 Points The closing competition of the season is also an adult junior event the Texas Scramble and this year it was held at Hennerton GC.This is an opportunity to present County Colours and Playing Colours to the girls who have represented and won matches for Berkshire. The incoming Junior Captain and Vice-Captain are announced and presented with their official jumper and the outgoing Captain has a small presentation and thanks from me. It is a fun afternoon with a turn-out of 40 players all ages and handicaps! Look out for it in 2015 and put both these events in the family diary Captain Becky Webb presents to incoming 2015 Captain Nathalie Warke Runners up: Tony & Heather McGee, Freya & Angie Burns Alresford Cup The Alresford Cup held in October and Berkshire finished in 3 rd position with Sussex winning the event. Annie Grillo (East Berkshire) was a top score player in this 9 County annual event. This is the second year running that this honour has been won by Berkshire.

Autumn Cup Hennerton GC hosted this event for the 3 rd Year. The scoring was high with Jessica producing the winner score with 40 points. It has been a fantastic year for Jessica with top positions in four events and a big handicap cut. This is the second time she has won this trophy. There were three girls with 39 points. Emma won on count back from Holly. Felicity Deaney also had 39 points, 24 of them on the front 9, so no help in the count back but a prize for the best front 9 was awarded. Emma Pearson, Runner up Tegner Trophy Holly Burns 3 rd Prize Three junior players took part in this event, Sam Collier, Nathalie Warke and Rebecca Webb. Nathalie produced the lowest second round score to win the Trophy for the most improved pm score with 19 shots. Rebecca Webb qualified for the Championship by finishing 13 th but lost on Saturday morning on the 16 th green to Linda Hunt the 2014 County Champion. Four Junior players were picked for the Berkshire Squad and took part in County Week in June, playing foursomes and singles matches. Katie Dawkins Coaching at Cowdray Park GC Seven players travelled down to Cowdray for a morning of short game skills and drills. Lunch, then long game work on the range before playing six holes on the course with Katie following along in a buggy watching and giving on course Katie, Becky, Sam, Chloe, Gaby, Julia, Nathalie and Izzy Jessica Li, Winner of the Autumn Cup

This session is for Elite Junior players who hold single figure handicaps and the number now total 6 with four almosts. Juniors are taking part in Div 1 competition, playing matches for 2 nd 1 st teams and are part of the scratch league sees the junior ranks losing four very committed and competitive players. Zoe Collins, who continues with her scholarship at the IMG academy in Florida, returning in June to participate in as many events for Berkshire and all the National competitions she can fit in! Becky Webb who has been a very dedicated Junior Captain and fully supported so many matches and competitions throughout her five years in the Junior ranks. Gaby Curtis, now studying at Southampton University, has been an excellent player for Berkshire. Last but not least Imogen Wilson who has travelled far and wide to support the Berkshire team in matches and events. Special thanks to Teresa Tayor, Sheree Dove-Wilde Jo Russ and Cathy Jones for all the support they have shown to the junior players by attending Junior committee meetings, competitions, persisting in selecting juniors for matches. Not forgetting Nicky Luff for all her efforts with formatting the Newsletter and updating the webpage. Berkshire s Talent Pathway There will be changes in the coaching structure offered by Berkshire Girls Golf (BGG) next year. The Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire Junior Academy (BB&O JA) coaching programme has had its funding removed and will no longer run in its present form. BGG, with some additional funding from Berkshire County Ladies Golf Association (BCLGA) plans in 2015 to take the best from our existing successful programmes and from the BB&O JA programme, to produce a new comprehensive Berkshire Girls Talent Pathway. - Beginners and Improvers will form our new Level 1 and still be at Sand Martins and Calcot Park. We are seeking a venue to replace Blue Mountain. - Level 2 will be our Intermediate class (9 monthly lessons) and Intensive (4 + 2 lessons following the BB&O syllabus). These will be delivered by Terry Wild at Mill Ride and girls may opt for one or both of the groups. - Level 3 will be our new Berkshire Girls Academy and girls with high handicaps will be invited to join, where they will be offered coaching, match practice and competitions. - Finally, Level 4 will be tailored for our Low handicap Elite girls. We will also run a skills day for Level 2 and 3 girls. We will send out details of locations, dates and prices early in the New Year and look forward to you taking part in one of these programmes. Pera M Marrs Coaching Co-ordinator Fun Competitions Our fun competition season always begins at the Billingbear par 3 course and the weather has always been kind to us. We had two new girls Leah O Keefe and Isabel Hogevold who had not played on the golf course before and did very well. The winner was Lucy West, dressed in orange. The competition at Lambrook School had a good turnout and the winner was Kate Jesseman. We had a youngest player Toni Greaves who managed play a few holes. The Lavender Park short course was challenging and although the weather was cloudy with occasional showers, this did not deter girls from playing. The winner was Millie Patterson. This year a new venue was added to our calendar in August. The Oratory School who made us very welcome. The 9 hole course was a perfect venue for the girls and the winner was Margaux Gathy Coaching at Sand Martins Details regarding dates and venues are still being negotiated but the general outline is as follows:

To finish off my season. I was re selected for the England U16 Thames Valley Regional Squad and I'm looking forward to next year. Julia Warke The winner at Lavender Park was Ruhi Pandit. A BGG provisional handicap certificate was given to Kate Jesseman, Lucy west, Millie Paterson, Rosie Jones and Ruhi Pandit. We hope this will encourage the girls to reduce their handicaps in further competitions and finally achieve a CONGU 36 handicap and play in matches for Berkshire. Sarla Read Fun Competitions Co-ordinator Looking back, 2014 has been a fantastic year. Despite having a self-imposed ban from golf to study for exams, I managed to play a lot over the summer. Some highlights for me this year have been reducing my handicap to five, shooting my personal best (+1) twice and being selected for the U18s regional squad. I also played in nationals for the first time this year which was a great experience. Nathalie Warke Jottings from the Girls about has been another exciting year for me which has included involvement in the Ladies County Second Team for the first time and helping the team qualify for the Midlands South 2nd team final. It was a nice way to start off the season. Another highlight of this year was being part of the Berkshire County Squad at County match week in June, where I was one of four juniors who were welcomed into the ladies team. A couple of other memorable events for me this year include winning the Henley Junior Open and runner up at the Frilford Heath Junior Open. Highlights of the year were County Week, which was brilliant fun, and my first competition hole-in-one at Sand Martins in a Ladies competition. Sam Collier Berkshire girls this year has been a really great year! Being part of the team and playing against or with other counties was a great opportunity to have fun, and having Pauline and the Berkshire girls with me made my year better. My highlights this year are: cutting my handicap target from 19 to 12; representing the Berkshire girls at Staffordshire, and being captain for the team for the day was nerve racking; another highlight would be winning the Autumn Cup for the second time! Coaching at Mill Ride with Terry was great, he is a wonderful coach to have. I also enjoyed

being part of the Berkshire team playing in the Alresford Cup and with Bucks against Middlesex and Hertfordshire. Overall I've had a great 2014, some successes and some failures along the way but having a great team, team captain and organiser with me made this year the best!'
