3 2015 APRIL REVIEW AGGIE INVITATIONAL The Bowling Green State University men s golf team had a very busy month of April, as the Falcons played in a total of three events over the five week span. BGSU played at the highly touted 2015 Aggie Invitational hosted by Texas A&M on April 4-5, then hosted the second annual Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational on April 13-14, before returning to the Rutherford Intercollegiate at Penn State for the second straight year on April Sophomore Duo Highlights Falcons Play at the 2015 Aggie Invitational on Saturday Bryan, Texas The sophomore duo of Jose Narro and Brett Rinker paced the Bowling Green State University men s golf team over the first two rounds of play at the highly competitive 2015 Aggie Invitational on Saturday, April 4, at the Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas. With a strong tournament field, which includes seven top-50 nationally ranked NCAA Division I golf programs, the Falcons ended day one of play in 12th-place overall with a combined 36-hole score of 638, +62. The Falcons, who turned in a first round team score of 312, +24, originally posted a second round team score of 311, +23, yet saw a scorecard error at the end of the round force a Falcon s score to be discredited due to a signing error. Therefore, with his score expunged the Falcons had to count the four other players totals for round two, which bumped the team score up to the 326, +38. Narro continued his strong spring season with rounds of 74, +2, and 75, +3, to finish day one in a tie for 15th-place overall with a 36-hole combined score of 149, +5. The sophomore totaled five birdies and 22 pars over the first day of play. Just six strokes behind Narro is Rinker, who shot a first round 80, +8, before a second round, 75, +3, to conclude day one with a combined two-round score of 155, +11, and in a tie for 43rd-place. The Pennsylvania native posted an eagle and a birdie on the first round of play and tallied 21 pars over both rounds of play on Saturday. Junior Holden Pahr, making his first appearance in the BGSU lineup this spring season, carded rounds of 82, +10, and 86, +14, on Saturday for a combined 36-hole score of 168, +24. With 18 pars over his 36 holes of play, Pahr will enter the final round of play on Sunday in 71st-place overall. Senior Ryan Triller struggled on Saturday, posting his highest two rounds of the year with a first round 84, +12, and a second round 90, +18, to place in 74th-place overall with a combined score of 174, +30. Fellow senior Joe Cooper had a solid day on the links, as he registered a first round 76, +4, and shot a second round 75, +3, before it was negated due to a scorecard error at the conclusion of the round of play. No. 9 Oklahoma, No. 41 Texas A&M, the host institution, and New Mexico State all sit atop of the team leaderboard in a three-way tie for first-place overall with matching two-round combined scores of 590, +14. 5 2015 APRIL REVIEW RUTHERFORD INTERCOLLEGIATE The Bowling Green State University men s golf team had a very busy month of April, as the Falcons played in a total of three events over the five week span. BGSU played at the highly touted 2015 Aggie Invitational hosted by Texas A&M on April 4-5, then hosted the second annual Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational on April 13-14, before returning to the Rutherford Intercollegiate at Penn State for the second straight year on April Falcons Have an Up and Down Day at the 2015 Rutherford Intercollegiate State College, Pennsylvania The Bowling Green State University men s golf team had a tale of two rounds on Saturday, as the Falcons posted a first round score of 294 in the morning session, yet struggled in the second round with a score of 304 to end day one in seventh-place overall at the 2015 Rutherford Intercollegiate hosted by Penn State University in State College, Pa. With their first round team score of 294, +10, the Falcons headed into the second round of play in a tie for second-place overall. However, as a team, BGSU struggled over the second set of 18 holes to card a score of 304, +20, and end day one with a two-round score of 598, +30. The Falcons will head into the final day of play on Sunday in seventh-place overall out of the 12 team field and only 13 strokes out of the top-three spots on the team leaderboard. The guys got off to a great start today through the first 15 holes then let their bad finish in the first round bring negative vibes to the second round, which was the worst round of the year by far with no competitive drive and no thinking, commented head coach Kevin Farrell. If we play like that at the MAC s we will not finish as high as we would like or are capable of doing. A trio of Falcons in Jose Narro, Joe Cooper and Brett Rinker all concluded day one inside the top-20. Narro bounced back from a first round 76, +5, to shoot a second round 72, +1, to finish Saturday in a tie for 15th-place overall with a two-round combined score of 148, +6. Cooper carded a BGSU low round 70, -1 under par, over the first round of play, yet couldn t carry over the momentum into the second round where he turned in an 18-hole score of 79, +8, to end day one in a tie for 18th-place overall with a 36-hole score of 149, +7. BGSU senior Ryan Triller recorded rounds of 75, +4, and 77, +6, to finish with a 36-hole score of 152, +10, while freshman Cameron Michalak posted scores of 82, +11, and 80, +9, for a combined two-round score of 162, +20. Triller and Michalak will enter the third and final round of play on Sunday in 34th and 71st-place, respectively. Host Penn State leads after day one of play, as the Nittany Lions turned in a tournament low round 276, -8 under par, over the second round of play to end day one in first-place overall with a two-round combined team score of 572, +4. Eastern Michigan (579, +11) and Rutgers (585, +17) round out the top-three on the team leaderboard, sitting in second and third-place, respectively. 7th Bowling Green 294, 304 = 598, +30 T-15th Jose Narro 76, 72 = 148, +6 T-18th Joe Cooper 70, 79 = 149, +7 T-18th Brett Rinker 73, 76 = 149, +7 T-34th Ryan Triller 75, 77 = 152, st Cameron Michalak 82, 80 = 162, +20 Falcons Climb Two Spots to Take Fifth at the 2015 Rutherford Intercollegiate State College, Pennsylvania All five Falcon golfers posted a final round in the 70 s on Sunday, as the Bowling Green State University men s golf team climbed up two spots on the final day of play to take fifth-place overall with a combined team score of 895, +43, at the 2015 Rutherford Intercollegiate hosted by Penn State University at the Penn State Golf Course Blue Course in State College, Pa. BGSU finished just two strokes out of fourth-place and only nine strokes out of the top-three. We have had an up and down year, but can still be a sleeper going into the MAC Championship Tournament in a few weeks, commented head coach Kevin Farrell. We are going to work hard these next two weeks and prepare for the MAC s because this year it is wide open and any team can get hot, play well, and win the tournament. With his final round of 73, +2, sophomore Jose Narro moved up three places on the day to finish in a tie for 12th-place overall. For the two days of play, Narro posted rounds of 76, 72 and 73 to finish with a 54-hole score of 221, +8. Matching Narro with a final round 73, +2, was fellow Falcon Joe Cooper. Individually, both Jack Sedgewick of Binghamton and Sam Madsen of Georgetown finished the 54-holes of play in a tie for first-place overall with duplicate scores of 212, -1 under par. Sedgewick went on to edge Madsen in a one-hole playoff on 18 to claim first-place outright. 10 Dear BGSU Golf Alumni and Fans, This year has been an up and down type of year. We are constantly focusing on becoming more consistent. The schedule that we played was by far one of the toughest in the MAC. I cannot thank all the former Falcon golfers enough that continue to help us and support us. I am extremely excited to see what the team can do at the MAC Championships and for the incoming recruits we have coming in this Fall. Please keep in mind that there will be a fundraiser on October 16, 2015, at Belmont Country Club. It will be Homecoming weekend, so it would be a great opportunity to come back to BG!
