Justin Thomas induced chaos on the usually genteel grounds of Quail Hollow with a heroic finish to the 99th PGA Championship. Thomas charged to his first major championship, winning in the way that we love to see our champions crowned. He earned it. Quail Hollow s old-money vibe was replaced by pandemonium. Patrons showed little regard for gallery ropes and spectator walkways as they ran through the muddy rough in their pursuit of the soon-to-be PGA champion. Thomas, now a five-time PGA TOUR winner at age 24, is a champion for a Snapchat generation, many of whom loudly called him by his initials as he played Sunday s final holes. Let s go JT! was the most common cheer from the loudest gallery members among the thousands who crowded around Quail Hollow s closing holes. They watched Thomas chip-in for birdie at the 13th hole That was probably the most berserk I ve ever gone on the golf course, he said execute a difficult up-and-down from a greenside bunker at 16 and then hit one of the best shots of his career, a 214-yard 7-iron, at the long, water-lined 17th. The 15-foot birdie putt made the 18th hole a formality.

4 GOLF Spring Treatment 2017 Spring will soon be upon us & it is that time of the year to start preparing our golf course for the summer and our first rains (which we hope come soon). Scarifying Date set for 14 th August 2017 Scarifying the golf course is not something that is done every year, but from time to time it is necessary, particularly when there is a build up of thatch layer in the grass. We will scarify most of the golf course area with the exception of the fairways, which enjoyed a verti-cut last spring. The irrigation system is now almost complete (with except the driving range) thus enabling us to fertilise and water these scarified areas. Process Estimated 5-6 weeks ending 22 September 2017 We will scarify one hole at a time to limit the disruption to the golfers. Areas to be done are: Tees and tee surrounds Semi-rough in playing areas of the golf course Greens surrounds Dryject We will Dryject the greens on the 2 nd October but as you know there is virtually no disruption to play and the greens are virtually playable immediately after. Fertiliser On completion of the scarifying areas an application of fertiliser will be done at between 200kg-250kg per hectare throughout the golf course pod. Mike Williams

6 STAFF NEWS It is with regret that we inform you of the resignation of two of our employees, being Jean Pierre du Preez who has been on our Technical Team for several years, and Wayne du Toit who has assisted in the Pro Shop, both of whom were offered opportunities to the betterment of their professional careers, which they simply could not afford to turn down. Both of these individuals played an intricate roll in the development and implementation of various systems and procedures in the Estate over the last few years, and their skills, commitment and dedication displayed to date will be missed. We do however wish them much success, as they take on their new endeavours with the same amount of passion, commitment and dedication that they have contributed to Pecanwood Estate. Furthermore, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Michelle Swanepoel, as the new Corporate and Golf Relations Manager, with effective from 15th August Michelle will spend most of her time in the Pro Shop and at the Main Clubhouse, interacting with members and guests, and we have no doubt that she will be a tremendous value add to our Team. ARC CONFERENCE UPDATE Our CEO, Francois Schoeman and GM, Jade Harris, attended the 5th Annual ARC Conference and Expo at Val de Vie Polo Club, where Francois was interviewed on camera for a ARC documentary and invited as a guest speaker on the closing panel to discuss with the rest of industry, the phenomenal changes that have taken place at Pecanwood, how to embrace change in this evolving industry in terms of HOA s and Community Living, and how to manage the HOA as a business, as that is essentially what it is.
