1 Newsletter of Shortland Waters Golf Club 31st May, 2017 The beautiful weather continued this week, with more to come for at least another week. We are praying this continues through Winter this year so there are no delays getting the new holes built. Turnpoint have been working on the future 11 th hole this week, getting in the drainage. They require the current 17 th hole to be closed from next Tuesday so the hole can be finished. It will be such a sad day for many to see the current 17 th hole closed!! Play will shift to the old 9 th hole, which will play as a short par3. The newly seeded greens complex is looking good and ready for play. Next week s tasks, weather permitting; Cut fairways. Pick up branches. Trim tree bases Cut green surrounds. Cut tees. Roll greens x2. Mow rough. THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK. I The Iiiii road to success is always under construction. BRUCE S NEWS PING CLEARANCE SALE We have 3 Men s R/H Drivers at $400 normally $600 We have one Men s R/H Fairway Wood at $300 normally $380 We have one only set of Ping G7 Irons Right Hand 4 to S/W. Ex demo set $850. We have one Ping Cart Bag at $330. All stock must go by 30 th June LESSONS While the practice area is being used to stockpile essential fill for Lorna Street, facilities are still available for short game and on course lessons. For long game lessons, please book at the Pro Shop and we are making arrangements to conduct these lessons with you at an alternate convenient location. Discuss your needs with Bruce, Regan or Andrew.

2 DEVELOPMENT NEWS We are certainly seeing activity ramp up. As you can see below the roof installation is complete and progress continues on both internal and external walls. Recently Aveo have had a video produced as an artistic impression of what the retirement village will look like. We have sought their permission to take a clip from the video that shows the new clubhouse. Ross Hartley has taken the clip to present this view to our members. As the clip is quiet short Ross has set it up to loop twice so that viewers can have a good view of this artistic impression of what the proposed new clubhouse will look like. To view this, Click on the link below and press the Play icon when the video file appears: FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS The club has regretfully accepted the resignation of our Club Professional - Bruce Alderson, to take effect at close of business 30th June. Bruce is leaving to pursue his main passion in the golf industry - a full-time Teaching Professional. The Board joins with all members in wishing the best for Bruce in his new endeavour. Bruce has been an asset to our Club, and we are confident he will be successful in achieving his ambitions. The Board will maintain business as usual during the transition, and consider its options going forward.

3 Changes to existing 17 th hole. There will be a number of staged works on 17 over the next month or so where the safety of course construction workers, player s safety and the playability of the current 17 th hole would necessitate moving play to the old 9 th green. When that particular staged work is complete and the ground safely restored, play would move back to the current 17 th. This back and forward process would repeat as each stage and/or safety issue arose. To give some examples of the above in no particular order. Irrigation Green surrounds drainage Fairway drainage Cart path Turf tee & green surrounds It s in the clubs interest to (where possible) reduce any delays in construction. To facilitate this, the club has agreed to permanently close down from Tuesday 30 th May - the current 17 th and move all play over to the newly resurfaced 9 th green. The new hole is expected to be ready for play near end of September. Greg Jones Captain PLAYING TEMPORARY 17 TH HOLE On the following page is the Pedestrian Access Plan for playing the 17 th hole effective from 30 th May. After playing the current 16 th hole (old 17 th ) proceed up the hill along the temporary road until you reach the concrete road. At that point, cross the road and then proceed along the concrete pedestrian path in the direction of the current 18 th tee. For safety considerations please do not use the road as a means of access. At the top of the hill, before the 18 th tee, take a right hand turn and proceed past the Aveo Sales Office and down what remains of the old 9 th fairway. A new tee is available as a 70 metre Par 3 played to the rebuilt former 9 th green. hole. Upon completion of the 17 th hole, proceed to the existing 18 th tee to play the 18 th

5 LADIES PENNANTS Our Division 1 Team played against Charlestown at Merewether on Monday. Shortland Waters were defeated Winners on the day were Melissa Minto and Colleen French while Maree Breen halved her match. Their final match is against Newcastle at Charlestown on 5 th June. Our Division 5 Team has finished out of finals contention. Their big win over Hawks Nest was not counted once Hawks Nest withdrew from the competition and this has severely disadvantaged our team. MASTER PENNANTS In the match against Muswellbook at Shortland Waters on Sunday Muswellbrook ran out winners Winners on the day were Cris Wiggins, Dennis Marr and Rob Avis. Our next game is against Merewether at Merewether on Sunday 4 th June. The Sales Office is continuing to conduct interviews whilst construction on the first of the villas is progressing extremely well. There are some limited vacancies available in Stage 1. Interest continues to grow for Stage 2. Displays of the units will be available very shortly. Should you, or somebody you know, have an interest in viewing these please contact Cameron Kennedy on or Tracey Frost on to arrange an appointment.
