4 Golf Course Maintenance The course is supervised and maintained by two fulltime employees and approximately seven seasonal employees: Bruce Hovelson, Golf Course Superintendent Greg Redenius, Golf Course Supervisor Seasonal Employees Club House Management For more than 30 years, the daily clubhouse and course operations have been the responsibility of an independent contractor. Since 2015, Moen Golf Management has held this responsibility; their original agreement was through the 2017 season. Because of the successful relationship, Moen Golf Management and the City agreed to an extension through the 2019 golf season. The contractor receives a percentage of the revenue from membership fees, greens fees, and cart rentals. 5 Budget History Comparison The 2017 golf season began on March 29, which was later than the previous two years. The 2017 Spring Fling golf event was held April 7; this annual event is a kick-off to the golf season. We had less than favorable weather in 2017 with 216 days of play compared to 250 in 2016 and 229 in The chart below compares the main lines in the unaudited fiscal budget for the past three years. The depreciation line (3) in expenses has been excluded from the operational actuals (2) as it is an unbudgeted expense. 6 2018 Fees Schedule In 2018, Moen Management and the City has implemented an attractive fee schedule that encourages patrons to purchase membership passes early in the year. In 2018, a surcharge of $30 per membership type and $1.00 per nine-hole green fee will continue to be implemented in order to recoup cost brought forth from the 2015 drainage project. 8 Growing the Game and the Future 2017 was a successful endeavor as evidenced by the following highlights; Patrons to EdgeBrook Golf Course commented on the great shape the course was in throughout the season and how successful the drainage project on the front nine holes has improved playability. EdgeBrook established record highs in the number of membership season tickets sold. The addition of a forward set of tee markers, placed approximately 65% of the back tee yardage was implemented. The forward tee markers were well received and we will continue this practice moving forward. As always, the customer service provided by the Moen Clubhouse Management team was second to none. The combination of Bruce Hovelson, Greg Redenius, Gary Moen, Randy Moen and all the maintenance and clubhouse seasonal staff members deserve a thank you for providing a quality golfing experience to our patrons in Course, Clubhouse and Maintenance Projects Through a collaborative effort of the golf course advisory committee and city staff, a Master Tree Management Plan was developed. A recommendation from the USGA/ASGCA site evaluation. Using the Master Tree Management Plan, the Brookings Forestry Dept. spent four weeks trimming, pruning, removing storm damaged branches and trees on front nine golf holes. Aerated and sand topdressed all tee stands in a continuing effort to improve compacted soil conditions of tee stands. Filled and seeded out of play bunkers on #10, #12, and #16 fairways. Installed a 6 wide continuous cart path along #2 fairway, connecting #2 tee and #3 tee cart paths. At #9 green, repaired worn cart path with 6-foot-wide gravel path past green. Added a no-mow area between #13 and #16 fairways. Replaced storm damaged irrigation field controller at #15 tee Course, Clubhouse and Maintenance Projects In 2016, EdgeBrook Golf Course was selected as one of six public golf courses in the country to receive a Pro-Bono program site evaluation from the United States Golf Association (USGA) and the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA). EdgeBrook Golf Course continues to utilize the site evaluation information to help develop a road map for improvements with the ultimate goal of growing the game of golf. Below is a sampling of the priorities for The priorities are based on information from the site evaluation report, feedback from staff, EdgeBrook golf course members and the Park & Recreation Board. Install drain tile to improve drainage of greenside bunkers on #12, #16, #18 greens and #16 fairway bunker. Insulate and finish interior west walls of golf course maintenance shop. Paint interior doors and trim at clubhouse. Extend # 9 green cart path to connect with cart paths to clubhouse and # 10 tee. Move and reposition certain identified trees to more appropriate areas on the course. Weather permitting, late next fall, Forestry Dept. will return and continue pruning/removal of trees on the back nine using Master Tree Management Plan as a guide.

Because of the continued support from all of the golfers at EdgeBrook, our elected officials and the Park & Recreation Board we had a very successful 2017 golf season and look to continue that success in 2018.
