2 March 21, 2017 Dear Jonathan s Landing Golf Club Member, We are pleased to present you with this brochure that duplicates all the slides from today s presentation to our golfing Members. There are many reasons for the mandate to renovate our Old Trail amenities: The Fazio and Hills Golf Courses The Fazio course was built over 32 years ago and, as a consequence, has changed in the fact that the drainage, water percolation and water run-off problems now prohibit the course to be played as designed. The Hills course will be 30 years old next year and it also has the same issues. The Membership Survey completed last spring raised awareness of the lack of playability and accessibility in periods of wet weather where the course was closed or limited to cart paths only play. Most of these problems are caused by the compaction of thatch built up over years that will not allow surface water to percolate down through the turf to reach the sandy base where it can then dissipate. The (previously approved) irrigation systems may be the last remaining hydraulic systems left in the area and failing us daily. Repair parts are hard to find, and the systems are kept operable by mending and splicing old used parts into the system. In addition, the bridges are in need of repair, the greens are no longer up to USGA standards, and the bunkers were the #1 complaint of those who responded in the Member Survey last year. A recent visit by a USGA representative said that we have extended our efforts well beyond the normal time period for addressing the natural aging progression of a golf course. The Fazio and Hills courses at Old Trail have outlasted many of the courses in the local competing market without significant upgrades. Reconstruction of a Florida course is typically completed prior to this length of time. The plan is to complete the Fazio course in 2018 and to save as many parts and pieces of the irrigation system to keep the Hills course operational until it can be completed in Old Trail Clubhouse The Old Trail Clubhouse is not a destination in itself but rather an amenity to not only our golfers, but also to our guests and prospects that travel to Old Trail for the true golf experience. The Plan is to address the golf shop area as well as the upstairs dining/bar area to allow for a more attractive and usable space. The Old Trail Clubhouse accommodates our Member- Guest events and our future members, and needs to reflect the JL image in a positive and impressive manner. To ensure the assets of the Club are maintained properly, the Board has unanimously approved and endorses these projects and encourages you to vote for the Old Trail Project Thank you for your special attention to this very important matter.
