We have a very big list of projects that we are looking forward to working on. We are very thankful for the extra week of closure and I promise it will pay huge dividends in the end. We are hoping the recent weather trends continue for us so we can get everything done. We have been fortunate to cross a few things off our list already. We ve already been able to aerify the greens twice. We have also aerified the collars three times and all tee boxes once. I m sure you have noticed the recent removal of the sand dam collars. The chipping green collar that we did our initial test on had fully recovered after 7 days! After seeing the rapid heal time we decided to go ahead and renovate the rest of them so we can focus on many other projects. We have also made a focus to take back our borders and the rough mowers have been trained to mow to the edge of the golf course property. The first initial cuts did scalp the grass down quite a bit but again the recovery time was remarkable. We currently have erosion control being installed on the residential lake banks of holes #2 and #17. We are still in the initial phase of the project but the progress has gone well. I look forward to seeing the final product. Additional littoral plantings have been placed on residential lake banks of holes #10 and #12 to help prevent future lake bank erosion. The leveling of the driving range was also completed earlier this summer. It has been healing up well and we are continuing to mow it down to fairway height of cut. We have started improving many landscape beds throughout the property and will be continuing throughout summer and through season. We are installing plants that provide more color and require less maintenance. I m already pleased with the few beds that we have finished and look forward to doing many more. Several dead trees have been removed and also over 40 stumps! We still have a lot more to take out. Don t worry if you think we ve missed one. I m sure it is on our to-do list. We have tree trimmers coming next week that will be doing the clubhouse parking lot, the bathroom oaks on #5 and several other areas. It is a gradual, ongoing process and we appreciate your patience. We have also contoured the tee box cut on holes 4, 9 and 10 into a runway style. Some of the tee boxes have been connected and this provides a different look as well as diversity for tee placements. All this and I haven t told you what we plan on doing for closure! Article Continued on Page 2

2 P a ge 2 Director of Grounds Golf Course Maintenance By Tim Kortanek, Class A, GCSA This is our current goal list and weather pending I m sure we ll be able to accomplish it. Verticut, Aerify and top dress Greens Aerify all Tees, Fairways, Roughs, Collars, Approaches Mow all roughs and drop height of cut to 1.25 Mow all Fairways and Tees and drop height of cut to.400 Edge all paths, landscape beds, bunkers, waste areas and tee plaques Continue bunker and waste area replenishment Removal of various palmetto beds Trim all cordgrass Remove vegetation on #11 path next to lake and improve landscape Renovation of bunkers on #3 and #13 to include ample drainage and walkthroughs Replace wooden barrier on #7 that is rotting through Cart path replacement on holes #4, #7 and drive through on #15-#16 Bulkhead boards replaced and fixed as needed Trimming all cordgrasses Spray roundup in all landscape beds Improve drainage in Fairway problem areas Tree trimming and palmetto trimming throughout the property Installation of over square feet of sod Continued tree and stump removal As you can see our to-do list is pretty extensive and there s much more we plan on doing if time allows. We wouldn t be able to do all of this without the second week of closure so we thank you greatly for letting us have the time to continue making Herons Glen a unique and rewarding golfing experience!
