1 Relax & Enjoy A Fairway Pines Publication February 2018 A Note From The Executive Director Knock, knock. Who s there? Jimmy Jimmy who? Jimmy a little kiss on the cheek We are trying to stay busy at Fairway Pines with many events and activities to help pass time during the winter months. Our tenants look forward to our monthly visit from the children at Holy Family School who to come to play Bingo, or do crafts, the time together brings a smile to our tenant s faces. As we keep busy here at Fairway Pines, we are always open to having more volunteers in all areas. We truly enjoy and appreciate all the volunteers we have and look forward to adding to our group. If you are interested please contact Bonnie Leukam at DIRECTIONS TO HEAVEN The Reverend Billy Graham tells of a time early in his career when he arrived in a small town to preach a sermon. Wanting to mail a letter, he asked a young boy where the post office was. When the boy had told him, Dr. Graham thanked him and said, If you ll come to the Baptist Church this evening, you can hear me telling everyone how to get to Heaven. I don t think I ll be there, the boy said. You don t even know your way to the post office. Warm Wishes, Jill Niehaus

It was named this because it was thought to be sinfully delicious. 1940s The dessert of the 1940s was Toll House cookies, the original chocolate chip cookie created by Ruth Wakefield, who ran the Toll House Restaurant outside of Whitman, MA. Wakefield cut up bars of chocolate to add to a basic butter cookie recipe. 1960s The dessert of the 1960s was chocolate mousse, a rich and light chocolate-flavored dish. Julia Child s cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, made French cooking seem easier for everyday cooks. 1970s The dessert fo the 1970s was carrot cake usually topped with cream cheese frosting. In this health-conscious era, people found this was a delicious way to eat their veggies. 1980s The dessert of the 1980s was tiramisu, sponge cake or ladyfingers dipped in a coffee-marsala wine mixture, then layered with mascarpone (rich Italian cream cheese) and grated chocolate. Yuppies enjoyed this dessert after a meal with decaf espresso. 1990s The dessert of the 1990s was molten chocolate cake or chocolate lava cake, individual chocolate cakes with a creamy, chocolate pudding-like center. This was the ultimate comfort food. 2000s and Beyond The desserts that top the list for the 21st century are ice cream, gelato, cheesecake, and homemade baked goods, such as cupcakes, pies, cookies and brownies.

The country has some of the biggest shopping malls in the world. The stores are open until 4:00 in the morning, while most restaurants, bars, and cafes are open only until 11:00 pm.
