Seelos 4th Degree Assembly 2321 July 2018 Newsletter Facebook Knights@StLukeSlidell.org In past years, the Knights of Columbus had six program areas with activities within each that we strived to meet: Church, Community, Council, Culture of Life, Family, and Youth/Squires. Supreme has consolidated these to four major program areas beginning with this Fraternal Year. The four areas and the Program Directors are: Faith (John Pericone), Family (Tom Stein), Community (Bob Joyce), and Life (Anthony Cooper). Within each Program are several activities to meet the goals of that Program. If our Council is to continue to be successful, we need to do our best to complete these activities. However, our Program Directors cannot do this on their own. They need your support. I have included a link to the Supreme website that outlines these Programs and the goals of each. Please take the time to review the site, read through the Programs and activities, and look for those that you feel you can help us accomplish. Your leadership and participation in these Programs are necessary if we are to continue to grow as a Council and fulfill our obligations as Knights of Columbus. I ask you to pick out one or two (or more) areas that you would be able to take charge of and to contact the appropriate Program Director to offer your support. Faith in Action Programs: Another opportunity for you to support our Council initiatives is with the Golf Tournament. We need you to get involved now to make this tournament a success. It is time to start recruiting Hole Sponsors and Teams for our St Luke Knights of Columbus Council 9973 Golf Tournament which will be held on October 26th at the Oak Harbor Golf Club. This tournament allows our Council to continue its good works in the community which include funding the "Wish" of a seriously ill child from St Tammany Parish as well as being one of the largest contributors to Project Christmas in all of St Tammany. Please get involved and join the Golf Committee. It is more important than ever for each one of you to recruit as many Hole Sponsors and players as possible. I have attached copies of the Entry Form for players and teams as well as a form for individual Hole Sponsors. Please feel free to send and deliver these forms to as many people and business locations as possible. Together, we can continue to make this tournament a driving force for doing God's work in our community. Finally, the next Major Degree for those wishing to advance to the Formation (2 nd ) and Knighthood (3 rd ) Degrees will be held on July 28, 2018, at St Thomas More Catholic Church in Baton Rouse, LA. 3 Father Francis X. Seelos Fourth Degree Assembly 2321 The Knights of Columbus Annual Banquet was held on June 9, 2018 at the Pinewood Country Club in Slidell, Louisiana. Sir Knight Dave Lemaire, Immediate Former Master District of Louisiana, installed the Assembly Officers. Three Assembly awards were given out as follows: Assembly Family of the Year Sir Knight of the Year John Cashio Patriotic Award Don and Betty Guillot Randy Gonzales Chuck Sabadie Bill Faustermann s first Mass as Deacon was held on Sunday June 24 th at the 11 AM Mass. Thanks to the 17 Sir Knights that dressed in regalia for this special Mass. Also note that 7 Sir Knights dressed in regalia were Liturgical Ministers for this Mass. Our presence at this Mass meant a lot to Deacon Bill. C.J. Impastato passed away on June We posted an Honor Guard for our brother Sir Knight. I would like to thank the following Sir Knights for being part of the Honor Guard for C.J.: Father Seelos Assembly: Dave Lemaire, Don Guillot, Tim Helbling, Vince Rizzotto, Tom Stein, Willie Johnson, Randy Gonzales, Charles Roper, Craig Schouest, and Michael Lemmon. 5 Are you aware of someone who might be interested in becoming a Catholic? St. Luke has one of the most informative RCIA programs in the area. We as Knight of Columbus are called to evangelize. Our Supreme Council has a department strictly for this purpose. If you come across someone interested in learning more about the Catholic faith, suggest to them that they might attend the upcoming August inquiry session at St. Luke. Classes run from September to May. You could brush up on your faith too. Accompany them to the class. Call Deacon Harold Burke at GOOD SAMARITAN MINISTRY AT ST LUKE At our last General Meeting Brother Rick Van Ausdale showed us some items needed for the Good Sam Food Pantry. Rick is a Volunteer Team Leader and wants to promote the mission to serve the poor and needy from the Slidell area. We can help by purchasing food items and depositing them in the Community Room in Church or you can donate money to the Poor Box. When you buy items make sure they are not the big box items. They need regular size items. Good Sam is a non-profit, non-denominational charity that serves the poor and those coping with emergencies in the Louisiana towns of Slidell, Alton, and Pearl River (population approximately 30,000 of a 242,000 parish population). Established in 1993 as an outreach ministry of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, Good Sams has funded its ministry primarily through tithing from St. Luke and St. Margaret Mary Catholic Churches, private donations and grant/fund-raising awards. With a staff of over one hundred five volunteers and donated office space, Good Sams allocates 100% of its budget to funding direct services to the needy. The mission of the Good Samaritan Ministry is to provide immediate financial assistance to those experiencing dire circumstances while connecting them to case management agencies that can provide longer-term assistance. Anyone can experience crisis in their life. Good Sams helps families in crisis. This assistance stabilizes a volatile situation to allow time for planning a lasting solution. These life-altering changes include re-entering the workforce, finding affordable housing, securing affordable life-giving medications or providing for children's daily needs. Our financial assistance steadies the crisis and our collaboration with social services partners allows us to educate clients on the available programs that can help them prevent the crisis in the future.

Sponsorship Opportunities for KC Council 9973 Golf Tournament HOLE SPONSOR- $ Sponsor gets a sponsorship sign at one of the 18 holes on the course and a listing on the t-shirt shirt presented to tournament players. BLUE SPONSOR - $ This level gets a sponsorship sign at the club house area where golfers assemble before the tournament in addition to a larger and more prominent listing on the shirt. Blue Sponsor also gets one golfer in the tournament. GOLD SPONSOR - $ This level gets a listing on a banner in the registration area, a foursome in the tournament, and the prominent listing on the shirt and a sign on the course. PRESENTING SPONSOR - $ This level gets their name on everything associated with the tournament leading up to and during the tournament. This includes entry forms printed after receipt of the sponsorship as well as in the registration area and on the course. This level will get a banner hung in the porch area where food and drink is located. 11 GOLF TOURNAMENT OCTOBER 26 th WE NEED YOUR HELP! The time is now to start preparing for the Council 9973 Annual Golf Tournament which will take place on October 26 th at Oak Harbor Country Club. Once again our council has teamed up with the Children s Wish Endowment Inc. to grant the wish of a seriously ill local child. Other commitments that are funded by this tournament include Project Christmas of St Tammany Parish, and a new substantial commitment that our Council will propose to help fund the Food Bank of the Good Samaritans program of St Luke Parish. As always, it will take the entire council to make this tournament a success. In this newsletter you will find copies of the entry form for the tournament as well as sponsorship forms. Please make every effort to recruit players and sponsors for this event. We need people to serve on the committee so if you are interested please me at athonn@aol.com. You don t need to be a golfer to make a difference in this event. Now is the time to get involved! Al Thonn Golf Tournament Chairman BOTTLES AND BALLS BEGINS AT THE JULY 19 TH MEETING It s time to start bringing in packages of golf balls or bottles of wine to be used as Door Prizes for the Golf Tournament. We will start collecting these items at the July 19 th Council Meeting. We will need to collect at least 125 door prizes and this has been a successful way for us to gather a large number of those prizes. Please remind your fellow Brother Knights to get involved.
