Charity Committee minutes to be discussed, presented by President 4. SENIORS CAPTAIN S REPORT Jim Sinclair 1 The Seniors AGM was held on the 26 th April, with an attendance of about 55 members. The new committee was duly elected by the membership and I was delighted and honoured to have been elected Captain for 2018/19. At the meeting I urged the Seniors Section members to take interest in the changes being introduced and proposed for the club. 2 Since the last Club committee meeting the Seniors Section has agreed to make a 500 donation towards the Half-Way House project and also made a 25 donation towards celebrating the 30 year tenure of our Club Professional. 3 The Seniors Spring Scramble had to be postponed due to bad weather and has been rearranged for the 10 th April. 4 The three Seniors match teams have all attracted new players, providing a healthy supply of players for this year s fixtures, which have already started and got off to a good start. Team 1 has played Came Down and Sturminster Marshall winning 4-2 and 5-1 respectively. Team 2 has played the Ladies Section winning 5-1 and Team 3 played Crane Valley winning 4 1/2 to 1 1/2. The Winter League final takes place this week with Weymouth being in a good position to taste victory.

3 5 Kitchen price increases made recently to meet CASC requirements has caused confusion over the prices to be paid for match meals. Our understanding is that Gold Card discount will reduce the increase for members back to those originally agreed. However, the rule for visitors is unclear because as they are not entitled to food/bar discounts they should presumably pay the new prices. As applying this is likely to be problematic it has been deemed sensible for visitors to pay the same as members. 5. LADY CAPTAIN S REPORT Audrey Garnett The Ladies are now using the online booking system for comps. Thanks go to Des and his team for assisting us. It will take some time to fine tune it. The season is underway despite the bad weather. The coaching sessions with Des have proved very popular with members signing up. We were delighted to incorporate Des s 3o yr celebrations with our Lady Captain v Vice Captain event which saw 24 ladies join in. Our first friendly with the seniors was very enjoyable despite winning only one game. The Beales team have played their first fixture and narrowly lost 4 and 3 to Yeovil. We have agreed that junior girls can play in comps with a handicap of 36. Competition Tee times caused some debate. We accept we had a lot of tee times and it was sensible to reduce them. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and are reassured to know we can increase the number if demand dictates as cups and medals are played in two s Stroke Indexes The minutes state that a subcommittee will look at this. The new stroke indexes have been sorted for the men and I understand the cards are in the process of being printed. What do the committee suggest we should do about the ladies? Worldwide Handicap System (WHS) meeting. Dilys Grant is representing the Ladies at the meeting and I understand John has booked two places, as Salisbury is the only venue in the SOUTH WEST. She would like to know who is representing the men? Helen Strachan will represent the ladies on the charity committee. Sandy Lane will represent the Ladies on the social committee. Matters arising from the Minutes. Feedback from the board on Half Way House Course Marshalls. Where are we now? Junior s handicaps. Who is now taking the lead on health and safety? 6. CHAIRMAN OF COMPETITIONS REPORT Luke Bartlett The weather has had a huge impact on the amount of competitions that have gone ahead in both February and March. The Ward cup and Famous Grouse were just a few of these; due to the busy schedule upon us

these competitions unfortunately won't be rescheduled. Des's 30th anniversary competition was a great success with lots of Des's staff old and new playing. Well done Des! Overview of Competition numbers Valentines Scramble- Entries (Players) % decrease Captains Jug- Entries (Players) % decrease St Patricks Medal- Entries (Players) % decrease Hopefully the weather will improve and we can actually start having qualifiers, the competition last weekend (St Patricks medal) was a non-qualifier after myself and Des agreed that due to the preferred lies (through the green) being on and players being allowed to lift, clean and place in the rough. Conditions will need to be closely monitored and if we intend to extend we will need to contact county before the end of April. Discussion point 1. Monthly midweek competitions- I would like to trial these competitions over a Wednesday and Friday. We would have separate sweeps and CSS for both days however the overall scores from both days would be amalgamated to have an overall winner. The reason for this isn't to increase the players although I think it will. It is to provide a service and to give more opportunity to our members to play in competitions if they choose to do so Gold card voucher monies- Is there any way that we could let members know what they have actually won rather than it just appearing on their gold cards? Maybe a simple like 'congratulations on coming 2nd in the St Patricks medal 8 has been placed on your gold card' Also can these monies be placed on the cards quicker? I suggest within 3 working days? We are quick enough to take the money off but it can take a little while to put the winnings on. Luke Bartlett asked if Professional can play in club competitions. The Golf Committee replied that only Professionals attached to this club can enter in club competitions and no prize monies or trophies can be won. 7. CHAIRMAN OF GREEN REPORT Frank Martin Bramble clearing on the Practice Ground completed. The last remaining tree stump by the chipping green has been cut down. The copse to the left of the 10th green was cleared of brambles and generally tidied. New tee yardage plates have been installed where the existing ones were broken or missing. Crow damage on the course has been repaired with soil and seed. A neighbour who lives at Norfolk Rd complained about one of our trees leaning over their sheds. This was cut down and cleared away.

A fence has been erected at the rear of the wooden shed to stop smokers from the hospital coming into our yard. One of the patients was found smoking right by the fuel store. Greens and tees sprayed with nematodes to combat Leather Jacket grubs. Fairways tees and aprons were all topped off with mowers. Greens Verti draining was completed and topped off with hand mowers. While the course was too wet in March for any kind of machinery work to be carried out there was still plenty of work to do. Out of sight of players is the main ditch running from sixteen down to Chafeys Lake. Over time trees and scrub have encroached on the ditch and these have been cut back in time to prevent the task becoming impossibly large. As this is the main drain for the course and much of the Westham housing estate, so being able to access and clear blockages to keep it flowing is important. The practice bunker has been filled with fresh USGA standard sand and is now ready for play. The new design gives you the option of playing either towards the green or aiming down the practice fairway, the choice is yours. Practice bunkers tend to get a hammering from the amount of use they get and need rebuilding more often than those on the course, but now that drainage has been installed it is hoped this one will last a bit longer. The new Toro tees mower was delivered on Tuesday and the John Deere fairway mower came on Wednesday. Both of the old mowers were part exchanged and taken away CHAIRMAN OF HOUSE REPORT Pat Crane Ongoing meetings are continuing about new franchise. We have had a new meeting with a furniture manufacturer and they are going to send us a quotation next week. Ladies locker room basin area is next to being replaced in the next few weeks. 9. POJECTS/BUSINESS ANALYST REPORT Dave Picton Not a great deal to report other than the advisement that went into the Echo on Saturday. The advert was to entice new members and old members to join up. For those that missed it the contents were Join in April and get 13 months for the price of 12 So far I understand we have had 4 new members that joined and one other wanting to come and see what we offer. I would like the Club Pro, Gents, Ladies, Senior s and junior s representative s, to collate information on their sections regarding competition results and achievements, on a weekly basis with the information either ed or given by hand to Nikki in the office on a Tuesday, we can then update the web site that week plus get some information into the Echo. Other topics I will be looking into are, 1) Junior Membership fees. 2) The Club Buggy shed? Extend or rebuild? 3) An increase in stock of Club Buggy s. Hire or buy? 10. JUNIORS REPORT Mark Rankin It has been a successful winter for the junior golfers this year. A junior eclectic was held from October to March which saw the dedication from the juniors playing in all conditions, even snow!

Alex Johnston took the scratch with a gross 54 pipping Jacob Tidswell by 1 and Alex also had success in the nett coming first with Toby Trott. Toby s brother Sam found success in the first trophy of the year, scoring a fine 74 nett 69. Young Monica Merrit won the first ezgo tour event of the year which was held at Sturminster Marshall. For all the juniors they have a busy Easter holidays packed with lots of golf. This includes the first Longmore Shield match against Sturminster, Dorset under 14 and 16 matches, South West under 18 championship, the Peter Alliss finals and the Henderson finals. For all the juniors playing in this I wish them luck and hope it can be a successful few weeks ahead. 11. PROFESSIONAL S REPORT Des Lochrie It s been a long hard winter but hopefully a good summer to follow. I would like to thank the Committee and Members of Weymouth Golf Club for granting me Life Honorary Membership an honour which is very much appreciated. All the KO s for the coming season have been posted, so just waiting for all the excuses to come in when the closing date for the 1st round arrives. The Spring Ladies and seniors group lessons have started with an increased participation in both. Our Tigers have just restarted after the winter break and hopefully we can build up the numbers in the coming weeks. We are also starting a ladies beginners Group in the 1 st week of April and there are still a few Places available if you know anyone who may be interested. The First Beckford Bowl match will take place on Sunday 8 th April at home to Bramshaw, and we have also been fortunate in Drawing a home match in the 1 st Round of the Junior Longmore shield on Sunday 15 th April against Sturminster Marshall so good luck to everyone. Charity Week, after the great work of Bob Mico and his team over many years, I am starting to get worried for this year. The new committee started off with Colin Huckle, Caroline Tapster Clarke, Graham Vile and I. Colin has been in hospital and is soon to go off on a month s Holiday, Caroline is no longer involved and Graham is no longer comps chairmen. Letters which were always sent out in January to all competitors have not gone, although all events are on Empire Golf and Open Fairways, Nicky has sent some s but there were not many available and to date we have not received many entries. HELP!!! The monthly quizzes have been a great success with around 80 people attending on the 1 st Friday of the month and hopefully these numbers will continue and that Rab C Nesbitt will continue to be quiz master. Family Day? Are the club thinking of holding this event again? I Know David Clarke asked for feedback on last year s event, but not sure what the result of this was. Members playing in 5 or 6 Balls on quiet days, is this something we should consider? Preferred lies we need to inform the county if we intended to extend this to 30 th April. 12.
