CAPTAIN S REPORT Alan Bates A very quiet month (not complaining) so nothing much to report. I visited Royal Winchester GC with the Beckford Bowl to play there scratch match, the team itself performed brilliantly away from home on a difficult course, but unfortunately even with mine and the house chairman s support they were unable to secure the win going down 8-4. The Hardy A team are through to the second round of the cup beating Lyme Regis and now are away to Bulberry Woods on the 14th May. A small number of members are still not using the divot mix on the tees or repairing pitch marks on the greens. to all members to remind them to look after their course. Could the professional also include in his next newsletter. 5. VICE CAPTAIN S REPORT Russ Conway Practice Area Enhancements Rob Bayliss is assessing the materials required to build/ up-grade the practice area and putting green. All long lead items will be ordered in the next 2 weeks. A full plan will be in place by the end of May. The intention is to complete the project by the end of February 2018.

2 The submission of the bid for obtaining 1 or both of the Practice Shelters owned by the DGU has been submitted. The DGU then changed the rules and have now asked all Dorset Golf Clubs if they wish to buy or rent the shelters. I confirmed we would like to do either buy or rent the shelters. We await their way ahead and next steps. Fire Alarm System Renewal This work has been completed by Pye Hill Electrical. Pye Hill have now installed a new cable to connect the fire alarm system to the Telephone system call out box. I await confirmation the connection of the 2 systems has been made. This ensures that if a fire alarm goes off a member of the Board/ staff will be alerted and called out if necessary. CASC The first CASC Sub Committee Meeting has been held, Chaired by Myself, with Chair of Finance, Chair of House and our Business Analyst. Next meeting is Thurs 4 th May. We will report to the Board in July. Pro-am It has been agreed by the Board to ask the Golf Committee to review their decision not to have a Pro Am in The Pro Am should be self-funding and full costs should be charged by WGC to the Charity Committee. The Golf Committee voted by a show of hands (8 for 0 against) to continue to run the Pro Am for Des Lochrie requested a member of the Golf Committee join the Charity Committee. Alan Bates agreed to join the Charity Committee for ACTION: The Golf Committee to hold a meeting in October 2017 to discuss the future of the Pro Am. Golf Competition Winnings 2 weeks ago I asked in the Pro Shop if I had won money in any 2 s competition. The answer was yes. One in January 2017 and a 2 in Sept The process for claiming my 2 s money was to go to the Pro Shop and ask for the monies (in this case 12.30) to be put into my Pro Shop account. I would like to see the names of the winners of 2 s posted on a board with the value of their winnings. Those winnings should be automatically moved into their pro shop account. ACTION DES LOCHRIE: It was agreed by a show of hands (7 for 1 abstention) to transfer winnings automatically onto members pro shop accounts. 6. SENIORS CAPTAIN S REPORT Lennie Harris Things are in full swing now for the seniors section, several team matches have been played, Team 2 had a very good win against Crane Valley 6 0, Team 1 have had a couple of losses away to Lyme Regis & Dudsbury and Team 3 lost to Bridport away. The Seniors Spring Open team of three is on the 16th May, entries so far look promising 24 teams to date with teams coming as far as Mendip, Chelmsford, Knighton Heath, Isle of Purbeck, Yeovil, Ashley Wood and Came Down, so a good turn out from other clubs. We changed the days format to encourage more players so we made it cheaper with no meal included in the cost, this seems to have worked as we still have a week to go before closing date. It must be stressed that the players can still order food from the kitchen if they so wish. The Whisky Scramble is not far away 19 th June, so far a good number of teams have entered 30 + so far. 2

3 We are trying to encourage all team members to wear team shirts and sweaters and a notice to this effect will be going on the senior s notice board shortly. There is still some confusion as to whether seniors can play the monthly Stableford in four ball? but having spoken to Club Captain Alan Bates all matches must be played as a 2 ball or 3 ball, this is to insure we keep a good speed of play on the course so a notice stating this will be on the senior s notice board shortly. ACTION DES LOCHRIE AND GRAHAM VILE: To check the competition rules for a 4 ball. For the Seniors Spring Open 16 th May & The Whisky Scramble 20 th June I am asking if the Ladies Section would kindly carry out ball spotting duties this will keep a good speed of play on the 5th & 8th holes, also drinks and cakes on the 9 th green a small charge would be acceptable. Russ Conway asked if the golf club receives any green fees from the Seniors Open or Whisky Scramble.as visitors pay more than our members. ACTION RUSS CONWAY: To take to the Management Board if the golf club should receive green fees for these events. ACTION LENNIE HARRIS: To find out what money is received and where it goes to. 7. LADY CAPTAIN S REPORT Caroline Tapster We have been fortunate to continue to experience good golfing weather over the last few weeks, and our scores are improving!! The Wilson Cup was won by Maria Woodham on countback from Gill Bucke, Carol Freeman won the Granny Plate runner up Helen Strachen, the Coronation Salver was won by Audrey Garnet runner up Sharon Rand, and the Mixed Easter Scramble was won by Jean and Graham Vile, Julie King and Basher Bates with an incredible score!! Interclub matches have started, unfortunately we lost the first three although they were all very close, our first Beales match is later this month and the Friendlies are well underway. The selection committee have met and agreed teams for the first round of the Humphries Bowl against Parkstone and the Parkin Cup against Dudsbury, good luck to both teams. Di Loving and Dilys Grant have progressed to the third round of the Daily Mail Foursomes with a win against Moors Valley, and Di Loving won the best nett score at the County Silver Spring Challenge at Broadstone. I recently joined Des and The Tigers on one of their Saturday afternoon sessions and walked round 4 holes with four very keen girls who I hope will be part of the future of the ladies section! Thank you to Audrey for the very smart Birdie and Par Trees, to Patsy Leonard for organising the photographs of the ladies committee and the new frame which has pride of place in the changing room, and to Maria for organising the Easter egg raffle. Our Golf and Coffee morning on 10 th May has only 16 people playing golf although we are expecting a good turnout for the coffee and cake, however our Open Champagne Scramble on 19 th June has already had 80 entries which is much higher than previous years! 8. CHAIRMAN OF COMPETITIONS REPORT OCTOBER Graham Vile 1. I have confirmed the new date with Neil Wale who is providing the disco. Unfortunately I won t be available on this date so someone else will need to coordinate the event. 4. Pace of Play I ve not taken any further action regarding this as I haven t received any feedback, (apart from the Ladies Captain). Perhaps we can agree the way forward at this meeting. 5. Local Rules As is normal relief from closely mown areas has stopped from 1 st May, also from this date we have decided to include all drainage/sunken ditches as an integral part of the course with no relief. I have placed notices in both the ladies and gents changing rooms and on the main notice board. We also sent an to members to inform them of these changes. 6. Roll Up Groups I have received three applications from the current established groups, all groups have managed their tee bookings well over the past year and I recommend we allow them to retain their current status. 7. Travelling Expenses It was agreed by the Golf Club committee in July 2015 that those representing WGC would get paid a mileage allowance where the return journey exceeds 60 miles. This was placed with the board for consideration. What if anything has happened with this proposal? 9. CHAIRMAN OF GREEN REPORT Frank Martin W/C 3/04/17 Rainfall since last Friday was 8.5mm which caused some machines to lose traction, but we avoided the need for trolley bans. Tuesday morning we were closed till due to fog and this morning there was a light frost.

5 Monday all greens were Verti-cut, aerated and top dressed. All greens back in play early on Tuesday morning and topped off by Toro greens mower after Greens were ironed on Wednesday and cut every day with the Toro. I will start using the summer units once the sand has fully disappeared. Do not feed squirrel signs have been put out on the 5th and 9th tees. Tree by the Captains car park has been trimmed. Putting green has been measured for quantities of soil, turf, gravel etc. Oil leak has appeared on the Rotary mower that is used for mowing around trees and has been taken away for repairs to be carried out. W/C 10/04/17 A shorter working week this week so everything had to be crammed into 4 days. Now that the top dressing has worked into the grass and there is no residue left to damage mower blades we have fitted our main cutting units onto the mower. We are still mowing at 4mm but have managed over 9 foot on the Stimpmeter this was due to rolling the greens everyday with the greens iron. Greens have been given an application of liquid feed this morning as they are looking a little lean. Cougar Fencing has been given the go ahead to start the fence repairs along Cumberland Drive. The chain link is an odd size and has to be made up especially for this job. Jimmy has been along the road to cut back any brambles so the contractor can get access to do his work. A fresh load of rootzone was delivered today for the tee and fairway divot mix. Stone free this time. The divot trailer should be out on the first tee next Tuesday. More divot buckers have been ordered via the internet and should be here next week. Mark went out and painted the fairway distance markers as per request. The irrigation system has been primed and made ready for service in case we don't get any il showers for a while. W/C 17/04/17 No rainfall again this week has seen the first use of the irrigation system, manual operation of sprinklers and hand watering has been the order of the day, due to startup gremlins with the new computer linking with the system, this has now been sorted and a full irrigation cycle is programmed for tonight. The new 15th tee is now open for play. Our small outfront rotary mower has returned from repair (blown crankshaft oil seal). Mark Farwell visited to recommend plant required for new practice putting green construction. The divot trailer has made its return and will work its way around the course in the weeks to come. W/C 24/04/17 No rain since last week but white spring frosts on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday delayed the start of mowing. Jimmy has a problem with a swollen ankle and couldn't come to work at the beginning of the week so we have been a man down. All the usual routine mowing has been carried out this week. All fairways have been sprayed with selective weedkiller to control daisies and clovers as well as a fertiliser to bring on growth. Hand watering of greens has taken place due to the current dry spell. We are still chasing suppliers for quotes so that I can work out an accurate cost for the new putting green extension. The new 15 th tee will remain until August and then a questionnaire will be made available to members for their opinion. 5

6 10. CHAIRMAN OF HOUSE REPORT Pat Crane Not too busy this month but had to buy a new cooker and have it fitted in kitchen. Painting has been completed and painter will start the outside toilets near the green shed next. Decision is required for new carpet. Transition to new brewery has gone quite smooth with new beers being well received so far, new wines coming soon. Works to gent s locker room should start soon The Management Board has agreed for new carpets in the clubhouse and I am currently waiting for samples. 11. JUNIORS REPORT 6 Diary Dates Poker Night Wednesday 10 th May Curry Night Friday 26 th May Quiz Night Friday 2 nd June Race Night T B C il 2017 Clubs competitions and junior news: The junior winter league was concluded at the end of March, and was won by Alex Johnston, with Toby Trott as runner up. The Bill Fory Cup was played on Saturday 15th il, and was won by Toby Trott with an impressive net 66. Joe Wickham came second with a net 67 in his first junior competition after getting his handicap at the start of the month. The juniors also had a success on Easter Monday when they beat Parkstone in the first round of the Royal British Legion Junior knockout. The team comprised Sam Trott, Toby Trott, Alex Johnston and Jack Kerslake, and they finished the day 2 up to qualify for the next round. Sam Brown secured a win in the second round of the Dorset EZGO tour at Christchurch s play golf centre in the Handicap B Division. Longmore Shield: The juniors have had a very successful start to the year with a convincing 8-1 win over Sturminster Marshall in the first round of the Longmore shield. The team comprised Mark Rankin, Sam Trott, Jacob Tidswell, Sam Brown, Alex Johnston, Tom Bastow and Jack Pallister playing 36 holes away to Sturminster. The morning started with a round of foursomes which we won 3-0, and individual matchplay followed in the afternoon with a 5-1 win. Sturminster were excellent hosts, the course played well, and the match was enjoyed by all. Peter Alliss Junior Masters: Weymouth had good representation in the Peter Alliss finals held at Ferndown with Jack Kerslake, Toby Trott and Tom Bastow all making it through to the knockout weekend. The competition was hotly contested, and ended with an all Weymouth final with Jack and Toby competing for the trophy. In the end Jack Kerslake came through with a 2-1 win in a very tight match refereed by DCGU President John White. Henderson Trophy:

7 Weymouth again had good representation in the final 16 of the County Henderson Trophy with Mark Rankin, Sam Trott, Alex Johnston and Jack Pallister all qualifying for the matchplay knockout section of the competition at Dudsbury Golf Club. The first day saw Alex and Sam play against each other in the draw, this was a tight match which could have gone either way, but Alex won through on the 18th to play Mark in the quarter finals in the afternoon. Again, another tight match which saw Mark triumphant on the last hole. Mark went through to the final 4 and unfortunately lost to Adam Hunter (Broadstone Golf Club), who was runner up 12. PROFESSIONAL S REPORT Des Lochrie No Written Report 13. ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION 14. AOB a) A letter has been received from Tom Robson requesting courtesy of the course as he has now turned professional. The Golf Committee voted by a show of hands (8 for 0 against) to provide Tom courtesy of the course b) Pat Crane asked if the website could be used more. Nicola mentioned items e.g. newsletters are put on the website as soon as received. No items have been received from the men s or ladies section. c) Graham Vile mentioned the diary on the website has cut off part of Sunday. ACTION NICOLA ADAMS to contact Sally Davis and BRS to rectify this.. There being no further business the Captain closed the meeting at 7.35pm. and the next meeting will be on Tuesday 13 th June at 6.00pm. 7
