Bunker Etiquette Good Sports Victoria The Good Sports program is a national preventive health initiative of the Australian Drug Foundation (ADF), which aims to help community sporting clubs across Australia become safer, healthier and more family-friendly environments. The program does this by helping clubs reduce risky drinking amongst members, players and visitors. Through Good Sports, clubs work through three levels of accreditation that identify a range of areas for improving policies and practices including alcohol and tobacco management, safe transport and alcohol-alternative fundraising strategies. This assists clubs to: Increase and diversify revenue Strengthen grant and sponsorship opportunities Increase membership Increase female and junior participation Generate community support and respect Jubilee Golf Club is pleased to announce that we have achieved Level 1 of the Good Sports Accreditation Program. As part of the review process, we were required to update our Smoking Policy, a copy of which can be viewed in the clubhouse. We ask that all smokers, including those using E- cigarettes, continue to use the designated smoking area on the verandah when smoking near the clubhouse. 1 The club Superintendent, Brian, has asked that you be reminded of bunker etiquette. If we end up in a bunker we all want the best chance of getting out in one shot. Enter and leave the bunker from the lowest edge. The pronged edge of the rake is for the base of the bunker only. The grooves should run towards the green. The flat edge of the rake is to smooth the walls of the bunker. Leave the rake in the bunker on the side furthest from the fairway and lined up towards the hole. The finer details of raking a bunker can be easily found if you Google: Bunker Etiqette and check out a few videos. Next Meeting of the board will be held on Tuesday, the 28 th August at 7.00 pm and any items you want addressed at that meeting should be sent in writing to the secretary.

Golf Quip Golf isn t a game, it s a choice that one makes with one s life. - Charles Rosin Greens Renovation Renovation of the greens has been booked for Wednesday 19 th September. The course will be closed all day. Community Raffle It is pleasing to see the Community Raffle tickets being sold and the books and money returning promptly to Jubilee 250 books were handed out. 27 books have been returned 4 STRETCHING Flexibility: Static stretching is very effective in both short-term and longterm. Short-Term Performance: Static stretching may diminish performance, especially when performed immediately before explosive activities. Injury Prevention: There is very little evidence that static stretching is effective. 5 Welcome to our New Members The following were approved as a new member of Jubilee Golf Club. Allen Bastin Greens Report Irrigation: The river pump has been turned off. The irrigation pump was damaged by a bolt from the suction line going through the impellers causing $3000 damage. We should be able to claim this on insurance. Tees: New Men s, Ladies and Social tee markers have been installed. Greens: There is no bent grass at the moment due to the extreme cold weather. The speed of greens is being kept between 10 and 12 by rolling. Renovation of the greens has been booked for Wednesday 19 th September. The course will be closed all day. Pathways: Stone is being collected for the edge of the 1 st pathway in the high section. Then a couple of working bees will be planned to concrete the rest of the edges. Fairways: A lot of winter grass has now germinated along with a lot of weeds. Spraying will start in early spring. On Thursday 5 th tree roots were cut along the 5 th, 12 th, 14 th and 16 th fairways. We will be sprigging santa anna couch on the 5 th, 12 th, 14 th and maybe the 3 rd in November / December. Pine trees on the left side of the 1 st fairway: The trees have been removed and a couple more weeks are needed to burn away the stumps and roots. A selection of flowering gums will be planted in spring. Course Committee: We are forming a course committee comprising Brian Leaver, Simon Godfrey, Steve Fisher, Alex Gibbs and myself, Allen Bastin. Some of our points of discussion are: Couch in greens. Hole quality. Hazard marking and staked trees. Tee markers. NTP markers, Fairway sprigging program. Shrubs on the course and tree planting. 5
