PACE OF PLAY PLAYING ON THE COURSE If a group fails to keep its place on the course and loses more than one clear hole on the players in front, it must invite the following match to pass. The Match Committee will take appropriate action in accordance with Rule 6-7 (Rules of Golf) with any players who are continually slow. LOST BALLS Always watch your own and your playing partners ball until they finish, particularly if they are headed towards shrubs and rough etc. Play a provisional ball if the first ball may be lost (do not forget to declare a provisional to your marker). Please remember a maximum of 5 minutes is allowed to find the ball. If the group behind is waiting, call that group through while looking for a lost ball. 15

16 WHO ME?...SLOW? SLOW PLAY IS SELFISH PLAY You are slow if you have one clear fairway ahead; you must call the following group through if they are waiting and then keep up with them. You are slow if you do not, when possible, study your putt while others are putting and thus be ready as soon as it is your turn to putt. You are slow if you are first to hit off and you mark your card before hitting off. You are slow if you do not move as quickly as you can between shots or if you spend an inordinate amount of time conversing with other groups. Therefore a comfortable time for the round if you play early is 3h 45m and for later players 4 hours. All players in the group are responsible for the pace of play and maintaining their position in the field. MEN s FOURSOMES CHAMPIONSHIP Qualifying round and Match Play rounds as listed in the Quick Reference guide. Lower handicap in each side will determine grade. For qualifying purposes both players must list their handicaps on the card. COMPETITION VARIANTS Combined Gross This competition is played in pairs with each partners gross score added together to give the combined gross score on a hole. The total combined holes scores are added at the completion of the round to give the Combined Gross Score for the player pair. Aggregate (4 players) Same as the Combined competition, each partners stableford score is added together to give the Combined score for the hole. Combined Net Same as Combined Gross competition, each partners Net score is added together to give the Combined Net score for the hole. Best 3 of 4 Net Played in exactly the same manner as Best 3 of 4 Gross, except that the players handicap and strokes are taken into account to determine each players Net score (rather than the Gross score) on each hole. For a net definition see the Net competition type. 29

30 Hidden Holes () The hidden holes competition is the total of the stableford scores for each of the hidden holes selected. Scores on holes not included in the hole selection are simply ignored. Eclectic Competitors play two or more rounds and the eclectic score is the lowest score obtained at each hole on the rounds for a specific course. American A player records 4 points if a birdie is scored on a hole; 3 points for par, 2 points for bogey; 1 point for double bogey. Points over the 18 holes are totaled, then the player s daily handicap is added to that total Eg: Total points 42, Handicap 10, Score = 52. Winner is the player with the most points. Irish The Irish competition works differently for 9 and 18 hole competitions: In the 18 hole version of the competition the normal score counts for holes 1 to 6. The score for holes 7 to 12 are multiplied by 2, and then the score for holes 13 to 18 are multiplied by 3. In the 9 hole Irish competition the normal score counts for holes 1 to 3, the scores for holes 4 to 6 are multiplied by 2, and the scored for holes 7 to 9 are multiplied by 3. Multiplier In a multiplier competition, a team of 2 players have their scores multiplied together for each hole. For example, Bob and John score a 2 and a 2 on the first: this will make their combined score a 4. However, if Bob had a 0, this will make their combined score 0 if John played well. 30

31 Best 2 multiplied by 3 rd This competition must be played with either 3 or 4 players. For each hole the best 2 scores are totaled together and then multiplied by the 3 rd best score to give you the total score on the hole for the group. If 4 players are playing together, it allows for the worst score on the hole to be ignored. If only 3 players play together all players scores count toward the hole. On completion of the round the total of each of the best 2 multiplied by 3 rd holes are added to give the group the Best 2 multiplied by 3 rd score. MOTORISED GOLF TRANSPORT The use of motorised golf transport in Championship events is not permitted except in special circumstances decided by the Match Committee. (Caddies can use a motorised cart provided the player does not ride in, sit in or otherwise use the cart at any time).
