recreational pleasure. There will not be any charge assessed for your personal use of the property Photo by Melanie Cook OPEN LETTER TO THE RESIDENTS AND PROPERTY OWNERS IN THE WATERWOOD COMMUNITY: Waterwood National Associates, LP, the owner of the Waterwood National Resort including the golf course, the marina and miscellaneous acreage in the community would like to advise you of certain security problems that affect us all and ask for your help in solving them. The following paragraphs are excerpted from the original letter to Waterwood Improvement Association (WIA) dated June 24th 2009 that explain the terms of the offer to the community pertaining to the use of the golf course, marina and other raw land which comprised the Waterwood National Resort. we have decided to make the raw land of the resort, primarily the now-closed golf course, available to the residents of Waterwood for your The approximate 235 acres of raw land will be accessible to you for safe recreational activities such as walking, bicycling, bird watching, fishing, hitting golf balls etc. Use of all motorized vehicles such as cars, trucks, motorcycles, 4 or 3-wheeler type vehicles is strictly prohibited. Only golf carts owned by residents and/or golf course maintenance equipment will be permitted. Access to the property is being made available on an as is where is basis and all uses must be in compliance with applicable law. Access to the property as described is being granted by Waterwood National Associates, L P as an accommodation to you and this action shall not be deemed to grant to any person or group property or ownership rights by adverse possession or otherwise Please enjoy the beautiful area peacefully and safely. We wish all Waterwood residents pleasant use and good health Sincerely, Waterwood National Associates, L P Letter to Waterwood Community April 27, 2018, page 2 The security problems mentioned above primarily concern the unsafe use of unauthorized motorized vehicles on the golf course and areas proximate to it. Not only have some residents and/or their guests been seen joyriding on the cart paths and on the course but said unsafe usage has included damage to turfgrass on tees, greens and fairways. It has also -Page 2
been noted that these vehicles or even those walking or bicycling on the course sometimes put themselves in harms way when golfers are playing. Because of the danger involved by a golf ball moving at very high speed we must insist that golfers be given the right of way. This means that if you are walking or biking along the fairways you must be aware of the golfers playing near you and take cover when they are hitting in your direction until they pass. It has been reported from time to time that people on bicycles have been seen riding on the course greens and the flagsticks have even been stolen and thrown in the lake. WIA will take part in monitoring the safe usage by allowing residents to advise security of any incorrect usage. Security will then advise San Jacinto County Constable Alvin Wyatt. Constable Wyatt is willing to and will issue warnings to any residents and guests that are identified by security or by ANY RESIDENT who reports said activity. We certainly are not asking the residents to be policemen but to help by simply and quietly advising the authorities as to what is happening and who is doing it. It should also be mentioned that the Waterwood Men s and Ladies Golf Association members and other residents voluntarily spend large amounts of their time keeping the course open and playable. Many also donate regularly to defray the costs of mowing, trimming, removing fallen trees and debris etc WIA and Waterwood National Associates, L P also donate significant dollars to keep the property open and to prevent it from turning into an unsightly, unusable jungle. Please respect the passion and hard work of your friends and neighbors. Photo by - Jessica Gribnau Photography Parents: Daniel and Hannah Riemer. 4 Spring Fling Fun! What a great turn out for our annual Spring Fling! The barbeque was delicious and the baked goods well let s just say they were prize winners! The Dessert Contest Winners were: First Place Myra Spencer, Second Place Debbie Maas, Third Place John Charlton. Let me tell you, these guys can bake! Yummy! Thank you to the WIA Social Committee for heading this up. What a great event for Waterwoodians to meet up with their neighbors and enjoy the nice pavilion and time with each other! 5 Pool Passes The weather is warming up and it's getting to be time for a swim. Remember this year you will need a new pool pass. If you were issued a pass last year, bring it to the WIA office with your $75 and pick up a new tag. If you lost your tag you will have to pay the lost tag fee in addition to the pool fee. If you ve never had a pool pass, drop by the office, pay your fee ($75) and get ready to get wet. Photo by Jeanna Thornton -Page 5
WATERWOOD WOMEN S LEAGUE BI-ANNUAL GARAGE SALE By Myra Spencer A very big congratulations for a successful WWL Garage Sale! Thanks for coming out and supporting the league, so deserving young people can receive a scholarship to continue their education. The weather was not so pleasant, but it didn t keep you away. Thanks, Ladies, could not have done it without you! Thank you Waterwood for your donations for the garage sale. A special thanks to Wayne and Terry Harvey for the use of the trailer for left over goods and driving them to C.O.M.E. mission. We appreciate the Fire Department for the use of the building. Thanks to those who brought tables, chairs, tents, baked goods and for buying the delicious sausage! Sorry if I missed anyone, you all stepped up and did a great job for WWL. The league raised a total of $ Our May meeting will be at Jeanna Thornton s farmhouse in Oakhurst. Jeanna is an Interior Designer and resides in Waterwood. Jeanna will give a tour of the farmhouse and answer questions you might have on Interior Design. We are really looking forward to this event! Great Job WWL! -Page 6
Waterwood Maintenance By Sam Butler, Maintenance Chairman I thought I would start this segment of the Maintenance Update by talking some trash! Effective May 14, we will have a new waste service company (Santek Waste Services) to serve Waterwood. May 11 will be our last waste pickup with Pro Star. Pro Star will be moving their six 8- yard containers out of the garbage pickup area and Santek Waste Services will be moving their eight 8- yard containers in. Pro Star is scheduled to pick up their containers after they have been emptied on May 11. Once Pro Star has moved their containers out, then Santek will move their containers in. Santek s first pickup will be on May 14 and they will be utilizing Monday and Thursday as their pickup days instead of Monday and Friday. It is our goal that with a new pickup day schedule as well as two additional 8-yard containers that we will have sufficient service with our waste disposal service going forward. This will also help out our maintenance day porter to keep the disposal site clean. Dumpster Reminder: Please break down all boxes when disposing them in the dumpsters. Please continue to break down cardboard boxes and continue to follow the guidelines for our household trash disposal which are posted on a sign located on your right of the gate as you pull into the waste disposal area. End of trash talk! The mowing season is upon us and you will begin to see mowing in Waterwood except along the Parkway. Waterwood Parkway mowing begins at the end of wild flower season which typically is the end of June or first week in July. -Page 7
ACB REMINDERS Before we all moved into Waterwood we read the policies and covenants. It may be a good idea to read them again. They can be found on the website waterwoodwia.com. Remember to fill out an application for your small projects. A new roof is considered a small project and needs an application IF it is being changed from anything other than the original roof. Call the WIA office first to see if an application is needed. The limit for a boat, RV, jet skis, etc to remain in your drive-way is only a week. Residents are complaining that they see these sitting out longer than a week. ACB will send letters to those that won t follow the restrictions. Please remember that dogs are to be with their owners at all times. Dogs can be injured by cars and golf carts if allowed to chase after them. Keep your pets safe! Waterwood Volunteer Fire Department Submitted by: Captain Melissa Howze As we look forward to what May brings us, we reflect back on April. As many of you know we have a new brush truck. Chief Corey Jackson and Bob Lane drove up to Melissa Texas and picked it up. We look forward to training on this apparatus. New bunker gear has arrived which makes our jobs a little safer. I would also like to welcome a new Jr Member to our family. Stephen Hubbard- Welcome to the family. Training this past week with 980 North Volunteer Fire Department was a huge success. Training is part of what we do in order to be the best we can be. Fire School is coming up in July and we look forward to attending and representing Waterwood. We also want to bring attention to summer time in Waterwood. As firefighters we receive all kinds of calls. If this is your first season with us we want to welcome you but also point out some of the elements that surround our beautiful place many of us call home. Snakes are out in full force! It may only be the beginning of the season but as the temperatures warm up these creatures begin to surface. Also, in the past there has been sightings of alligators at the ponds. If you have small children and if you visit these areas, please be vigilant if you re exploring what all Waterwood has to offer. Waterwood VFD only had one call last month and it was smoke in the area off Greentree. We ask that if you use smoke rings or bbq pits to please make sure your fire is out before you leave the area. Thankfully we did not have a forest fire on our hands. We will be having a recruitment day in May at the fire department. There will be flyers coming soon with the time and dates so be sure to check the WIA Bulletin board and at the Post Office. Let s not forget about the upcoming bbq cook-off and dance. We still have open slots available for cook off teams. And if anyone knows of a band that would like to perform please send them our way. We hope everyone has a great start to this wonderful season and please be safe! -Page 8

Maya Angelou Photo by Kyle Incardona With the past couple of storms, we have had a lot of debris float to our dock. The family took out four garbage bags of plastic bottles and Styrofoam. In the photos are Cathy, Catie, Jacob and Joseph Incardona. Thank you, Incardona Family for being good stewards of our lake. We should all do our part! -Page 10
